A Small Town Yet Merging into a City

There is so much news out there these days. I had been out and have you ever left and were far away and forgot your camera and had the ideal area in which you wished to write? I did. Right now here within the city were there are two new bridges that are in the midst of being built. It's a large endeavor and I sat in with the super of the construction and were got talking and were were talking about how many do have a concern that this city is changing from what has always been known as a "small town & a city". It's the flavor I guess that has always been something that most folks enjoy especially the ones that have been here all there lives.

I myself always thought of this as a very unique city as it could render that feel of both a town as well as a city. Yet it's growing and it's moving so fast. So often when this happens the crime rate goes up. Yet you can't stop progress.

I myself love that small town flavor and that ability to get to where ever your going without the hassles of large cities. There is something about a small town feel. I think nowadays most people are buying secondary homes or cottages outside of the city and many just live outside of the city. Don't get me wrong. I love cities yet ironically I never loved what goes along with a city that is the size of a million. I used to as a kid.

So we shall see how things shape up here. As it's really growing faster - actually to fast and city council back some ten years ago never intended nor expected this to take place.

Yet there is something about towns. I am not much for the hustle and time it takes in getting from one place to another. But that's just my thoughts.

  1. I live just outside a small town that has gradually merged with Baltimore City. Now from the inner harbor to where I live there is not a break to show when you have left the city and entered the town

  2. Yeah here it's for the longest the thought of many was within this idea of small and yet a small city and this is happening now. Many still cling to the thoughts of it being a this motto. But as things are building so fast it's obvious that here it's coming to be a city. I still do hope that there is some manner that within the rural and urban planners of this city do attempt for this to still be unique within the manner it was founded upon.

  3. This was a small town. Now we have bloods and crips trying to control the streets

  4. Here it has yet to get to that stage as your probably larger. But I would hope that we don't go the same pathway that one other city here in Canada went with a booming era. So I would hope we do have a few that do still care on the merits of the foundation of this city.

  5. There are some that think that San Antonio is a big bustling city. But when compared to Los Angeles county where I come from(or New York) it is not. I think most of that mentality comes from the abundance of true rural towns surrounding us.

  6. Where I live, one city meshes with the next in boundaries. Yet each one has its own personality...I am sure due to leadership and the history of it.

  7. I am often out walking, driving and see something unexpected, and wish I had my camera. Should never leave home without it, I guess. I live in a small town, pop. around 9,000. I like that it has rural beauty, little traffic and little crime- well comparatively. But there are drawbacks- for example, not much to do as compared with a city. At the moment we don't even have a movie theatre, and I have to drive out of state for any kind of shopping other than the most basic stuff. I guess you take the bad with the good :)

  8. The town I had on one recent blog, where I grew up also, is 950 population. The nearest big town is 12,000 population where I do most of my shopping, it's 15 miles away. They have just about everything I need.
My little childhood town was 650 population 50 years ago. They have that post office, a little grocery market (coffee spot), 2 gas stations, doctor's office, bank, 3 churches, the schools, auto repair, American Legion, and a few other businesses like the police station/city hall.

  10. One takes the good and notices the bad. Right now lands owned by .....................are being done well. Who would have ever thought that there would be a merge between Graham and Fltiron construction. Thus it is.

  11. First let me say you would never find a most from Quebec outside of there own province. We have faced that situation within Canada as you put it with the fun blogs you placed on Canada. Yet there are contrary to many Quebecers many small towns that hold onto french. Secondly, Nancy there are more french speaking people in America. Go figure.

I love towns and this is a town within a city. Unless you have lived here one would never know. Yet I knew a Narma. She moved from Florida to a retired vet. I don't know how it all went now all I know is there was something within that small town.

Here my folks were both from small town - one that shaped the this side of the pond. Ironically. Yet I went back there in my late 20's and I knew that this was it. Thus I hope as I have been a bit of an advocate. But ............. silence is golden.

  12. Right down near there we looked at California. As requested. San Diago seemed to be the area Mel. Horton's Plaza was one of a few commercial combined with other non commercial venues. Who would have thought it was Canadians in the making yet I am American/Canadian.
    As many have thought otherwise.]
