I guess in the ideal world we would all be as one ..... politically ... as long as it gives them power then they are interested ..... and personally .... I am definitely not interested in just one country ... I am interested in the entire world.
I think we have become more a world not as much individual countries. Much of that is the globalization of trade and commerce. Countries have become interdependent on one another. I think examples of that can be seen in Japan right now. They are a strong proud country that in the past would have never asked for help from anyone. They want to do it themselves. When they looked to other countries for help with the nuclear issue and are now accepting humanitarian aid this was a huge step and shows how drastic the situation has become. Meanwhile, the world was offering them a shoulder to lean on and supplies to support the people were made ready.
The globalization brought so many good things in both ways. Foreign trades between countries becomes easy and lax unliked before. Import and exportations no longer a luxury but commerce. There's nothing wrong being interested and be friends with them. we need to communicate with them for easy and fast facilitations of papers and some foreign trade policies.
I also think social networks like this have made one world. I think of my friends not my friend from Canada, my friend from Ireland...I don't designate people by location. We are all on Multiply.
Countries are made up of many people with different voices and interests yet we all have a voice even though we are one of many. Men have build the walls that divide , love builds bridges .
Sharon, I contest that. Your a great friend on here and macro and micro economics always were involved in each and every country. I don't know one that it hasnt. I know that we have been wrenched with international affairs. I know we have been at a point where some have this thought of "only within my country". I grew up based on what I learned and where I had been. Yet I understand what your saying here. I am one that has always believed in smart international affairs. And for me it still does make sence. History may repeat yet we have evolved I would hope since past times. It's ideal perhaps.
I think much of this is pending the education of a person. I know more about America and other parts than I did with Canada for years. I don't either I never thought of people by the merit of where they were from but whom they were. Mind you there was a learning curve with Canada and well you know that there will always be differences with some yet I do think like you as I do believe within the merits of the person, and the merits of where they are from Sharon. (It was a write I thought of last night before I headed off).
There is much to be said within this area as the way I see it we perhaps the merits are within how we were raised and how we were educated - yet I have even met the most uneducated and they were brilliant.
Countries Cheryl are made up of different countries and the culture gives way to the interestes. And yes we have seen within our life time thus far of how bridges go up and do come down - ( Reagan ). It's the nature of mankind. Thank you for your comment as we are not within a cold war, but we are in something right now. I think we always shall in some manner.
What is the gift within this world I am sure you recall the song, "It's a small world afterall". Is it applicable in these times. I often ponder.
I would hope that people do still take value within countries - my own thoughts.
