Nearing the end of these Winter Olympics

I have literally never been to British Columbia, yet where I left of on the Olympics seemingly there has come to be a certain Canadian pride. There have been several writes on this - I have always pondered on the identity of Canada. And yet for some reason Canada by way of these Winter Olympics have come to indicate something. Now where am I going with this? Canada as I mentioned will not bring home the all the gold medals that was wished to be - my own prediction yet for many I don't think that they really knew what Canada was. What is Canada? I have to look around a little more but Canada is not about winning yet already the games have as well as Vancouver and Whistler have been seen and I do think there is a new look at what Canada is from other countries. For myself, it has always been tremendously difficult to describe Canada in a few words there are some tremendous writing out there especially from the USA, as they never really realized. Ironically, British Columbia has really come into it's own. I myself have never been to this one province. Yet right now it's as green as can be, parts of it I guess. What Canada is...? I think that Canada has really made an international impact with these games and lets face there has always been a differences between people as we all live within different countries and within the sport it's really all good. Within the evenings I have been watching some of these games but most of all I was taken by NBC when the broadcasters of the morning show whom would get up early in the morning in order to make there simulcast, all four that were within some area within British Columbia. There is a good unity, by way of sport, meanwhile the ministers of each province met with the governors of the Unites States - is that a coincidence? Then when you look beyond internationally for some reason Canada has always been understood, as we although we never had a name of our identity. The games I think have done far more good internationally and as well between these two borders that are one of the longest within the world. I have never in my life seen Canadians at large wave flags in a manner the manner in with there is a patriotic flair. Literally it’s being done from all eleven provinces from Newfoundland all the way to British Colombia. It’s certainly a different thing to see. As far as who comes out on top, I think it was a large disappointment to many Canadians to see that Canada lost the game between USA and Canada - yet it's not over yet. Meanwhile the Canadians womens team they really have done great. Canada will not take home the predicted medals or hopes - but in a way that is what the Olympics. Yet from what I can see now many are saying this is one of the best a few have said by way of the city of Vancouver itself.

  3. We are certainly proud of our athletes, and personally, I can also appreciate the talent and hard work that have been shown by athletes of other countries. Thanks for the link, the mountain seems like a cool place to visit.

  4. The clip, entitled "Tom Brokaw Explains Canada to Americans," was originally prepared by the revered former anchor of the NBC Nightly News as part of that network's Olympics coverage, and aired before the Olympic opening ceremonies on February 12. Brokaw was born in Montana, so I think he probably understood both countries rather well.

  5. I suppose in a way this really did not fit within the olympics but it's something that truly is part and parcel of Tom Brokaw speaking from his own thoughts that was supposed to be " A love letter to Canada" before the Winter Olympics began. But it's something that I feel there is a unified thing that has taken place between these two countries. I can't place my finger on it. But I do believe it's there. Perhaps more globally now.

  6. I had closed and came back, hockey game is fine but it is not my favorite sport. The video is very good. I had not seen it before. No, I have not been to the West of Canada yet. I have been to Maritimes, New-Brunswick and PEI, Ontario and different parts of Quebec but never gone to B-C or anywhere West. I certainly will eventually, when there is more time for travelling.

  7. Mine literally is the speed skating... Hockey it's always been that certain element of Canada but as time goes on Hockey has become a very international sport. I am really impressed with the athletes but I have never seen a place, which literally has come to surpass what I expected. But I find what is interesting is the multi centralism that is taking place in British Columbia.... the video was something that I am not sure if was played on television, but it's been nice and BC, especially Vancouver is the only city I have ever seen that rarely gets SNOW !

  8. Vancouver in one sense should not have gotten the Olympics -mainly caus of the snow factors-Vanc. lies at the foot of the Pacific ocean so it cannot get msnow-most winter events were under 900M again a thorny problem with cold and rain-
but they should not be sad about the metal count all their athletes try and they all have been under to much pressure from their own country to get the most ever-
to bad you have never been there Van. is a wonderful place I have visited it many times and it is really vey international and has some if not the best fish in the world-

  14. It's all in good sport United States ranks 1st, German 2nd, and Norway 3...to be honest I was disappointed with Canada, as if there was only one gold to take home it would be it, so we shall see how Canada does against Russia.

  15. We have missed so much of the Olympics since we have been travelling. I get the highlights on the wireless but it is not the same. I just watched some of the women's ice skating heats. I love the story about the Turkish girl and her parents.

  16. No, I think we Canada will not obtain the desired 10 gold but I predict it will be eight. I was really impressed the other night with Scott Ferguson....from a small town in Manitoba and now he resided in Calgary....go figure - speaking of figure skating :)

    .......................Gold!
