When I was back in Canada there were many things to be address which shortly thereafter was my father as unknowing to all he had three cancerous masses. Yet he was still well within the shape of that which I had known previous before I had returned to New York. That is a story within itself…
As time went on there was a period of time which no one really understood how what all I had gone through but ironically a head of the fire department which specialized within taking over things for those chiefs which were on burn out. He listened to me and came to be a great friend. As he was trained within the area and knew that it would take some time to just settle out of the whole situation. He himself was involved within the first gulf war as many had at their own discretion went during the first gulf war and 90 percent of western firefighters had put out most all of the fires which Saddam had opened up in retaliation. We would get together periodically and just talk – it was good to find that combined with the friend I made mention whom knew things which had taken place from a personal side.
When one building went down much like the cold war all of Canada Air force were in the air as well as all agencies of responding were concerned that Canada might be the next target. There was not only commercial aircrafts that were up within the air. The situation in some way mimicked the Cuban Missile Crisis with the exception that Canada's Air Force could not cross the border as they had with the proper allowances by way of Ottawa as well as Washington. All of Canada Armed Forces – specifically the Air Force were prepared to take action. Within fifteen minutes there was a detection of certainty with two commercial airlines. Prime Minister Christian was on the phone trying to reach the President George Bush or any representative within the hierarchy in government – yet Washington went into what is called a black out.
Imagine the Canadian Air Force was prepared to take action while within and for America yet without any allowance on the level which was required Canadian Armed forces could only watch and insure that Canada was secure.
Rudy G., the mayor of New York at the time probably was the most prevalent rapid responder within the city of New York. Things needn't have happened within this way yet Bush was setting up a offshoot from the government to replace the set in rapid response system and we all know how well FEMA worked within it's inception. Mind you it was after the first plane hit the one twin tower – but the merit of how all his departments responded where in the best manner as there was a cohesive system which along with his administration was put into place far before 9/11.
Yet the Air Force within America were not notified until they were notified the head of the American Air Traffic Control System. The Canadian Air Force had deployed their arsenal of aircrafts an hour before anything was picked up on the radar systems in America. Dick Cheney was escorted to a bunker underneath the White House while after the second tower was hit President Bush was then escorted to another bunker but the while the he was being escorted to this bunker within Nebraska those whom protected the president made a mistake and had to turn around which took over 45 minutes to have the president in a communications bunker. Meanwhile at this time there were military and civilian air traffic controllers that had there hands tied to give the American Air Force any orders. Before anyone within the United States had even picked up that there was an imposing threat in the east from Cold Lake, Alberta all 50 of 64 of Canada’s F- 16’s were deployed into airspace and were ready to intercept two commercial airlines – yet they could not cross the border without permission from Washington to Ottawa.
While the Canadian Prime Minister and Generals called to the American Air Force Generals there was no manner that Canada could just enter into American Airspace - their hands. Notification by American controllers came 30 minutes after the head of the Canadian Air Strategic command had called the appropriates within the American Air Force. The response factor within America was blemished. Washington had a blackout as well Cheney ignored Canada's attempts to have privy to American Airspace.
CISIS in alliance with the Canadian Air Force knew ten minutes after the take off that there was a probable cause of two commercial airlines and deployed most all air force jets to the east coast. As well, twenty percent went monitored Canada as it's a normal procedure which goes back to the roots of how Canada’s Air Force set up it systems during and after the Cuban Missile Crisis. Imagine the frustration as America did not have the set up infrastructure and if a Canadian pilot had without allowance went into American airspace without the proper codes of procedure he and for that matter nearly 70% of Canada’s F-16’s were ready to go in upon the allowance.
Literally Canada’s Air Force was flying around the eastern seaboard prepared to intercept while America's Commanding Officer could not make any decision. Time was the essence and somewhere within the system notification as well as the realization of a threat came much too late for any deployed American Air Force to be able to get near the planes in the appropriate time from deployment. If either the Canadian Air Force or American Air Force too action they would have been in breach of the laws in which are that of the missions of engagement. The American Generals upon their notification were ready to give commands yet it all was much too late as Cheney insisted even after the first tower that no decision would be made till George Bush was within communications. This was the beginning of Colin Powell’s resentment to taking a position in the administration. Which he only took upon the request of former President Bush Sr., Powell is a friend of my fathers and although he came from an Army background they both met and came to enjoy each other - which in later years was to my surprise.
When George arrived at his bunker after the second tower had already went down as well as the Pentagon. Much too late, as he was in Nebraska and the CIA went the wrong direction while taking George to an underground communication bunker. Which took 30 minutes for the "Presidential Team of Security" to realize. They made reversal another 30 minutes was of time was lost, not to mention no one was making a decision. When Bush got to the bunker he then took 30 more time arguing with Cheney, as he wanted to come back to Washington via Air Force One. He was advised on the case thereafter he went up in Air Force One and did not return to Washington till Cheney felt that things were under control. The situation was bad the worst in American History yet Bush placed out to contract this concept of a rapid response system. Rudy in New York had an impeccable immediate response procedure set up. Better than the federal government of Washington at the time. There after the Pentagon was hit. Meanwhile the head of the American Air Traffic Controllers placed his job on the line and made an order and command on his own called "Grounding". The only decisive command that he knew very well it might cost him his job. But the idea was to get all aircrafts grounded - the first time it's been done in history - yet you have to hand it to him as he did was others of higher positions had no idea of what to do. Yet he acted and he did land all that were in the air. The grounding call worked and all that were within the air were grounded - which is the first time in which it has been done within the history of any land. Yet under the circumstances it was too late but if there would have been any other jeopardized planes it was a call that would work. Ironically there was never in place across United States a rapid response procedure federally.
Within the military there has always been surveillance. In this case, the manner which 9/11 was handled was that of an area which all systems were not tied in with each other and the commander in chief never would give any order without the approval of V.P. Cheney coupled with Rumsfield. If the President would have signed off authority there were more Canadian F-16’s prepared to take if and when ordered the first two residential aircrafts as Canada knew and were in place while the George, Dick and Rumsfield sat and waited for George. George, Dick and Rumsfield messed it up while ironically Canada was from 3,000 miles away ready to take the required action upon being given the ordinates as well as the right to fly into America Airspace.
That you don’t hear but while things were in a disarray or mismanagement ironically the Canadian Air Force was ready and able – as well the man which headed the American Air Traffic Controllers were on the mark.
Did it change the world – yes it did change the world. There was more harm done than good during the eight years of George and Dick. Yet the ordinance of command within the administration of George W. Bush, Jr. had more good people within sectors of the administration that there after retired or were asked to retire. During his term he probably had some of the best which within a two year span decided to retire and sign of on an oath to never make any mention of this mistakes which were made before 9/11 and then thereafter.
Only in future years would some come to realize all of that they had done.
Imagine that...
... and that is history unfolded. Gosh, I have come to realized now who and what you are as a person. And your father too. Ok now ... can i give you a hug! laughs* get it sir!!! :)
ReplyDeleteNow. In all honesty, that is one for the book. And if your going to write it, can you give me a copy. I will treasure it all my life. Be blessed Jack. To know you as person is a gift. tight hugs
A true story it is...
ReplyDeleteInterview today with Prime Minister Stephan Harper:
ReplyDeleteI agree Jack there a so many questions that have been asked by the families of 911 victims I'm sure many of these questions will never be answered.
ReplyDeleteI had to ping in and out but it is and upon as mentioned - two years ago who would have thought that you and I would have met. It was with regards to the very same idea of rememberance day/memorial day and this is a question which since the inception of you Mike and I had met - ironic buy who would have ever thought that our paths would have come to be. There are more question now yet Mike I do think we are more free than "yesterday". You father worked up in Canada as I recall our talks from when I was on the east as well as here on the west. Tomorrow is a day which there will be the likes of Rememberance and Memorial Day here and although we have questions the most thing of all is that we render and honor those of which had done their best. I know Fort Lee shall be having a tribute as well their shall be as well - thats the good thing within all of this. Last night F -16's as well as a few Hirks were flying in coupled with the firefighters. We don't know yet we do have that connect in honor of those lives as well as those whom were of aid these lands back at that time. Honor & code do represent something still Mike. As now it's kept our lands much safer than before. Mind you we are living within a modern age cold war.
