There was a time where I was apart of a group on here I am apart of a group within Italy yet it's hard to keep up with it all yet. Yet there are some that judge ya and then there are those which wish to place you into an area. This is my own example of yesterday and how I forgot. The group was a picture group and while I was out east there was a theme called something to the effect of poverty.
I didnt know of really what to post within the group as by way of taking a picture I have never thought of this area. From a photographic stand point. When I sent a question to the administrator of the group questioning the theme. As did three others as it was over the top if you know what I mean. Two which were long time members seemed to be left alone.
I simply took a picture within the streets of Montreal City of garbage and how the more fortunate would spend $500.00/per meal. And up above of these bars and streets where those which lived in a much less fortunate manner. Ethically I had a problem with the idea and yet there were some which literally went out and took pictures of people on the street and so forth. I don't know the member whom posted on picture of a man laying on the grass and gave him $ 10.00 dollars for a warm meal.
I don't know about you but I would never run out to get a picture for a theme as such. I actually just posted my picture of garbage within the streets and left it at that. I was reluctant to participate - mind you I was rather busy at the time as well. But some guy went and took this one picture and that's when I said to myself that I am not going to even partake in this as the picture of a man with no means and one with a camera which cost more than the man which was laying there - I felt that it wasnt something I wished to participate in.
Since that time, I have never felt bad yet I have had many which by way of the owners of this group nail on me. I thought of this last night as I love photography and before I really got into it - I even promoted the site. Those days are gone. As that was the time where I felt that whomever was in control of running the group had waffled ethically in a big way. To think that a them would be placed out and then some - not all but some would go and take pictures of the homeless. I have never regretted that day. I have never seen any group do anything of this sort nor had I ever seen adults go out with $1,000.00 camera's and take pictures of the homeless for a theme.
I never paid a price and I don't think the common individual would with any camera fancy taking pictures for something of this nature. There are so many other areas but ironically there were and this is recall of Multiply but I don't think the average person would partake in a theme as such. Yet that is my own point of view. The admins went at me and for three months I had person after person drop me as a friend as there was that trickle effect of talking with others and making up stories which were fiction. But for myself at the time I thought how important is this? All concerned it never was and I am happy to be blogging yet I do belong to one group - it's hard to use a translator to reply to everyone. Yet there was a fine gent by the name of Nico which introduced me to a group upon seeing all that happened. I do have a hard time with reading everything in Italian yet Nico could see it all from the wayside. That was the nicest gesture and Nico did understand that I was not some down and out person yet was one that did have ethics and wanted to enjoy things on here in blogging.
To this day Nico was one that stepped above the rest and everyone likes Nico for he is Italian but the point is - within the eves I do love to write as well what I had learned from the experience of a group which called itself "perfect". Did make some grave mistakes with that one theme.
There are times where there are misunderstandings, a jump to the gun on people. If you were not online and were asked by anyone would you ethically go out and take a picture of a homeless person for the sake of a theme.
I think not.
I have been having the time of my life over here these last two months and there will always be misunderstandings. But then there are the likes of Nico which don't worry about what others say. Thus this is a fine time as well as I have wished to write this for a couple of days as I am part Italian ( one quarter ) but not one is better than an other. We just at times have misunderstandings.
Thus I blog on and with no angst. You never can please all but you can enjoy a community of some. There is no doubts in my mind on that.
That was then and this is NOW. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's never easy when there are misunderstandings. It's great that you have a familial history with Italy and that you are able to partake and enjoy time with a group of your heritage. One of my favorite Italian friends said to me all the time, "you are a part of my family and no one can take that away from you." Your a part of the multiply family Jack. We are happy you are here blogging.
ReplyDeleteAm on my happiest seeing you here Jack
ReplyDeleteE-mail headed your way.
ReplyDeleteI sorta know whom "we" are...say hi to him for me.
ReplyDeleteI think that is what you meant..yeah I am sure you were. :)
Never say never....
ReplyDeleteok....yet that was then and I don't know any other way to put it other than - that's the way it went then, but not now.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like some in your group were interested in "poverty" as some kind of aesthetic thing instead of the crime against the social order of our societies that it most often is, Jack.
ReplyDeleteEthically that can be very tricky stuff. To me, you have the right idea.
Doug I don't belong to that group as when that theme came up it was coming to an end for me. Ethically it came to be a decision as I couldnt fathom some of the pictures but that was then. It was rather rude. But I am sure that that group during that time steared far away of the likes of that again as more than likely
ReplyDeleteit was a hard yet learnet experience within the moderators and I am sure they do swell now and there is only so much time within the day.Now and then I will partake within this group from Italy and I must say it's so different and yet one needs a translator as I am 1/4 Italian but never was taugh the language.
Yet aside of this without bragging was back in the studio today and I am not sure if you have seen what I have be UP too but it's here:

Fingers are crossed...as from one week and a half things started to seemingly come together with this old group (music) of mine and my brothers and
ironically connects were made during September 11th - which was something good from bad if you will and this next week now that
I have decided to go with things and my brother has as well as another old band member.....we are within the making
of a dream. It's hard not to be excited with it all and I have already factored in the worst case scenario plan
and the plan....so either way,
"Something is Within the Wind".
I like your photos..all have something ..of interest.keep up the good work,,!
ReplyDelete"Thus I blog on and with no angst. You never can please all but you can enjoy a community of some. There is no doubts in my mind on that."
ReplyDeleteI concur.
Thanks Carol yet it's not work it's enjoyment :)
ReplyDeleteLife is too short and these are the times where after the day and even weekend no for one moment to I believe in herd mentality.
ReplyDeleteAs within the old comedy of the life of Brian, as he said, "you all are individuals". :)
Yet there was one that was standing there and uttered out, "I'm not"....you have to laugh. :)
He's not the Messiah.
ReplyDeleteHe's a very naughty boy.
