History, shortly we will be celebrating Remembrance Day.
In all the countries that were part of the crown the poppy is what everyone wears to celebrate/honour those whom have served in all the wars that we have been involved in.
The merits of the Poppy to the history of WW1. The initial burial burial grounds in England where the all you can see is the poppy flower. There are not too many of those people around any longer but there was a great poem with regards to it.
Remembrance day is celebrated on the 11th of November....
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep,
though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
poem by John McCrae
