What United States means to me. If I were asked this question a decade ago, it would be different to now. For that matter, if I was asked what I felt about America it would be based on the areas of which I know. Yet within this year to ask of what is America is something that it’s not as easy as earlier years. I don’t know what happened within the fabric of America, as it was always something to be carefree about and there was no real concerns as to identity.
As in any society there are differences but the differences are within the people. America was founded by way of the English and then as well how the English dealt within its own interior many things. To compare the United States now in comparison to that of when I lived there is very different. I don’t mean that within a negative manner. I recall a tremendous book that was written called, “A Man without a country”. I read the book while I was attending grade school in Bear Road. It was about a man that was the most patriotic but very mistaken and left to live out at sea during the beginnings of the colonies of the USA.
My experience as a kid within America was a very down to earth people. Yet this was when I was a kid and at the time that I was merely seventeen, I went back and saw my friends. Later on, I would do it within my adult life. Yet the America that I personally know of is that from the east coast. There was nothing of the likes of the annual picnics of which were so often celebrated.
Thereafter, I did go back to the United States and I truly loved and felt at home when I lived in New York City. I felt as if I was back within my homeland. Sure, there were things, which happened within the big apple, but it was nothing of the likes of what is now. In no manner have nor shall I degrade America as the merits within history were that of what everyone sought to reside in. For that matter, those of which I knew where very community minded. From the ordinary to some of the senior people within business there seemed to be a relation that was based on good will.
The people that I met and those of which were American or American immigrants were firm within their belief of what constituted America. Unless you have lived on both sides, I don’t think one really can see if there is any difference. Back then, we didn’t think about countries. We thought more about areas such the New York State Fair, the Empire State Building, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, which was right across from Rockefeller center. Then on a day such as this, it was heading out to Central Park or Jones Beach. Back then, there was such an array of people, but no one was thinking about wars, or what United States stood for. As a kid, I remember without any question standing up within class for what was the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag. For myself America was home, still to a very good extent I see it as such.
America is a country that always was one that was productive and community minded in the manner that I see it. Certainly, there were points in history that America has. I find now that America is under a time of which in some manner they shall bring it together. Pride is within the fabric of the land of America and although there may be some things, which are so, very questioned, or for that matter too questioned. I have always recalled my last Fourth of July. Taking a boat ride to Ellis Island and seeing that statue of Liberty. It rendered something that I just can’t place a finger on but if there are a few words that do come to mind it would be – community, people from all ethnic blends, historical museums that were funded by notable people. This term for that matter theme of "the land of the home and free". It’s always been something of which stayed with me as well as that of times which there were no concerns of differences. I feel that I have been fortunate, as I have had a great experience within America as well as within the country of which I reside. Ten years ago there was not much difference and then came the downfall of the economy as well as the administration of a President named George Bush. Nevertheless, this is not of matter what is that America still is America.
Yet I still feel privy in knowing America and having had America as a country of which I belonged too. The things of which take place never stay the same. In addition, with all of that said, America as I see it is one that stands proud. For myself, America was more than just the nation at large. It was one of which there was never so much concern. I state words with caution yet that of both lands, to see that statue of Liberty while hearing and singing with thousands the national Anthem. I truly wish I had all the pictures as well as some videos from that time but America has and always shall be a part of my life. I do have a letter from former President Clinton while I lived there as well – I met extraordinary yet ordinary people. The merit was all within the manner of what America is, not so much as to what it isnt. However, this is all based on where I have lived. Even during the times of which are faced within the fabric that seem to be so intense – there still is a foundation of what represents the red, white and blue. It’s that of which I truly have loved and I still maintain that America at large shall render back that of what was so lost over a decade. It just might be happening now. What shaped America was a multitude of people from all countries.
The very ideals of America honor the service of that of which it stands for. Do a service of rendering the best of a country. And those times of which I had I certainly feel that I have had a great advantage and I believe that within time I shall return and here again that anthem as well as see – Lady Liberty, as see looks across the Hudson with a certain calm.
There are many things of which come to mind within what America is and within that tread of what America is. I still believe that as within the history of any country in the thoughts of many notables America has and shall not be that of less it's a country of which everyone has seen to be one based on a history of pride and freedom.
Our histories intertwine in so many ways. Many mutual roots, though we've taken slightly different paths. We hold much in common.
ReplyDeleteOne day I hope to be proud of this country.. at this point it is difficult if not totally phony to be such.. We are slaves in a militaristic regime governed by the greedy murderous elite. The people of this country duped by liars and power mongers. The military, a puppet organization bent on illegal genocidal occupation of so many innocent countries I have lost count. The people of the United States are now in the process of waking up to this monstrous agenda to overtake the world..and are beginning to fight back.. Proud ? no I am not proud... I am ashamed .. that we have been duped, robbed and coerced by illegal puppet masters to sleep while they overtake the world in an attempt to enslave the peoples of the world...
ReplyDeleteSo much in the past as well a to this very day Grammy.
ReplyDeleteI would never be ashamed of America. The military is of one that words within ordinance to not one but many allies. I am not ashamed. Sure the last ten years have and would have given any country questions. Yet I do hope that things do come into place in a manner that this term of which we call "free state" do render of what they are. Pride is something that everyone has within a humanistic commodity. I don't think we are dealing any more with a "little Cesar" as for two terms we had.
ReplyDeleteMay this as it shall and is for many across the landscape be more of that of, rather than that will. As I see it the American Dream has taken a hiatus, but anyone that lives within America is enjoying the day for the meaning of what America is. Who would ever have thought that a Canadian up here was an American as well?
I love these two countries.
Pride. Being proud is good as long as it within manner that it doesn't gives a bad connotations and within the realms of good manners ... i will always be proud to be a Filipino and would never be ashame of that :)
ReplyDeleteA happy Independence Day to you, Jack. tight hugs.
We have lots to be proud of, but alot of work to still do. You were born and raised in the USA, right Jack? Just wondering why the move to Canada?
ReplyDeleteThis is very much a thesis I have considered for some time Jack, and you put it so well. Those who criticize American society--and I am going to leave foreign policy aside for a moment---are not aware I think they often are criticizing the flaws of humanity itself!
ReplyDeleteThe United States is a country that has maintained freedom--not for all equally but what nation has ever done that?--but an ideal of freedom to move towards, and sometimes achieve more equality than was imagined in the not-so distant past. At the same time our best leaders created a place where people of all nations have come and built their own lives and those of their families for generations.
We have many flaws as a nation but we have also been a great nation for people of all varieties to have a second chance. Few nations--Canada is one--can make such a claim.
My father retired from his diplomatic status and had decided to retire and then I returned some 12 years ago. I was born there raised and
ReplyDeleteI am glad of that so there were was the reason as a kid of the age of 17 and there thereafter in my adulthood I came back for certain
family matters and yet I wasnt born in Hawaii. :)
Still Doug I believe that any given country has flaws and perhaps so many thought so highly of America from within it's people to that of those that looked upon the USA. Flaws have taken place within any given country. I do believe that we live within a much different time regardless of where we are. I don't claim to know all as the landscape right now is much different to when I lived there Doug yet as you asy it's all within humanities but America foundation here of which you mention is truly the foundation of which America presides.
ReplyDeleteAnd the very same to you Maritess. I myself love cultures and have always - as I once mentioned it's not within where you come from nor where your born all that matters is where your head it at. Thus cultures as we know it are within America the only difference that I see is that of how cultures integrate within a country.
ReplyDeleteAnd i came from the Philippines and proudly to be a Filipino. Yet i love America. heck ... what is that :)
ReplyDeleteIt's all within people and I would suppose a globalness which is not based on colour (color) or creed.
ReplyDeleteI don't think many like the politics going on in America now. It makes it difficult for many to understand the people from the politics
ReplyDeleteFor such a young nation to grow to a world power, one of the youngest she has done much for freedom around the world- more than most. But some things are changing and not for America's good growth.
I agree with above
"We have many flaws as a nation but we have also been a great nation for people of all varieties to have a second chance. Few nations--Canada is one--can make such a claim"
Is our world on the threshold of better or on the brink of disaster? It seems that a case could be made for either view.
Human governments can go only so far in achieving unity. And with such corruption within our government it's hard to believe they care enough. So it will be up to the people where we go from here.
Yes," There are many things of which come to mind within what America is and within that tread of what America is as you said, also I know what it was, I try not to confuse what it was to what it is now-which is very different, and what I hope it will be.
When we lose control and clean growth for the future-which we are, it isn't good for a house or a country.
I think we need better leaders but I'm not so sure they could get in right now
The America I knew is changing but I am not sure for the better. There is a girl from Thailand on my page she wonders if we offered to much freedom for votes etc.... and now we and others are abusing it. She maybe right
It's a good country, good land, and good rules, a variety of people to enjoy, we need to care for it more, like a child needs discipline as well encouragement or you have a brat. What has our government become by our lack of discipline to all ( in favor of perhaps something like Party favortism)? I hope for America's best but I wonder about her trends of late. I'm not as proud as I should be.
There is definately room for growth yet to me America has that history of which carries so vast but within the times right now I find that America is continually thinking within the box rather than outside of the box. I have not kept on all the news but I did see the President's address last night on CNN and it was a surprise that Canada was mention.
