~ Six Days to Go ~

Not that much has been happening within my neck of the woods. My camera both of them actually are in need of service and it’s probably going to cost more to fix it than to just get another one. I went into this jeweler friend of mine whom referred me to this other person whom repair watches, clocks and those sorts of things. So I spent a good portion of my day downtown. I’ll see what all happens and more than likely will get another one but I am going to still see if there is someone that can fix either one of these two. It’s that time of deciding needs and wants I suppose.

As well, soon I will go and make my choice with regards to whom I choose as the leader of Canada. I was reading where the youth are getting out and voting. As well for the first time in history there an English speaking Canadian might very well come to be elected for the first time in the history of Quebec. Now that’s a first here in Canada. Throughout history Quebec has always felt it was it’s own nation and several times has tried to separate from the country. I guess it would be like Texas being afforded to be it’s own nation, or even Louisiana as within Louisiana there are more French speaking Americans than there are French speaking Canadians. I believe in languages as well as I used to speak good French but it was never my mother tongue. I don’t know why one province would separate for that matter even within United States there has never been one state that has been declared as a state it’s own nation.

Sometimes this term called, “Nation” takes on a different meaning, the last time I looked in the Webster’s dictionary the term Nation meant it was a country with it’s own government. I recall back within the late 80’s the Prime Minister at the time got on the television and made a request to all Canadians to make a plea with Quebec.

Jean Chretian was his name and it really did bring up some old feeling amongst the majority of Canadians. At that time all provinces which are much like states were requested to call long distance for free to “Joe Blow” within Quebec and beg him to not vote to separate from Canada. Most never made the call. The feeling was that if one province gets special consideration why shouldn’t every other place within Canada have the very same. Yet no Canadian believed in this separatist movement, which is well documented within the history of Canada. I myself never thought that any province nor territory should be given a special consideration and much like America within Canada it’s one country with several other provinces much like states, although it’s a different form of government when it really comes down to it there is not that much difference it’s a democracy which was found by explorer which was from France while United States was found by an explorer from Spain. Yet we have that unique cultural element without the need to separate or claim to be distinct.

So here in today’s times history may very well be made as for the first time a Torontonian by the name of Jack Layton is leading the polls within Quebec. There is a deep history in which the Queen declared didn’t take over the land in which the French inhabited. She gave them what here in Canada we call a distinct society. Where the way I see it there are more than 30 different languages that are spoke throughout the lands of
Canada and here with six days to go – seemingly Quebecers, a term used much like New Yorkers, are voting within a manner of that as being Canadian rather than Separatists. There is something to be said for what is happening within these times.

Certainly Canada is a vast land and but I think with all things considered every province is part and parcel of what makes up this country. With six more days to go it shall be interesting to see who comes to be the next Prime Minister as well as it will be interesting to see if there is a majority. So this for me has been a very interesting time and I think if this Jack Layton of the Liberal party comes into being the next premiere of Quebec. It will be the first within history that Canada in a sense has over come this division which has always laid low since the times of Pierre Trudeau. As for within his time he did some good things as Prime Minister and then as well he resigned the British North American Act with the Queen. And introduced within the 60’s the language of the land would change from being English to English and French. I don’t have anything against the French. I learned the language, I had some very good friends but seemingly Canada is evolving right now. I think ever since the last winter Olympics Canada came to be patriotic in ways that it has never been.

Which in many ways is much of the likes of America, but within a Canadian kinda style.

Thus far it seems like the current Prime Minister shall be re elected as well shall have a majority government. Thus it is…we shall see how things go with both cameras as well as what happens within the next six days in Canada's Elections.

  1. Just a side note, Jack. Jack Layton is the leader of the NDP. The New Democrats Party. The reason I know this is because his riding is just one riding over from mine.
I am in a liberal riding. So, it really doesn't matter who I vote for because no matter what the liberals will get in, in my riding.
I am voting green though for the record. I used to vote for the New Democrats but they don't get in here in my area. But, one riding over is Jack's.
I have often thought of moving to his but that would mean leaving the co-op and I don't know if they have as good of a co-op in Jack's riding.
If I think the NDP has a wave of popularity to usurp the Liberals then I would probably change my vote but so far I don't think that is going to happen here. But, I am glad for those NDPers who are in Quebec.
I am not a Block Quebec Supporter as I love Quebec as much if I lived there because one I learned how to swim in Quebec and we had a family cottage there when I was a kid. I love the french people and I think they have as much of a right to separate then any other province that wants to do so. I would prefer us to stick together through thick and thin but if they really want to go I believe if we let them go like love it will come back if you give it the freedom to do so.
Anyway, I was born and raised in Toronto and my mom voted NDP and when my dad voted Liberal when he was alive.
So, I have no problem with how people vote. Once I even voted Conservative way back when Mulroney became a Prime Minister.
Good luck exercising your right to elect who you want in power even if they don't get in.
    :)

  4. sometimes it's easier just to replace electronics then to fix I know Jack and other times the semtimental value of the gadget makes it hard not to repair too tough call I an sure.

always interesting things come to surface when one starts to dig up history and facts about one's own home country :-)))

  5. My general feeling on elections anymore is that no matter who you vote for or who wins there will still be problems that no one seems to address.

  6. Hope your camera could still be fixed at a reasonable charged. But if it is going to costs you much, by all means you have to replaced it and buy a new one. The only one thing that is a bit nostalgic there is the adjusting, the old one will always fit liked a second skin ... surely you'll gonna' missed it.

... hope your countrymen chooses the best candidates and vote according to what their hearts dictates.

  8. Isn't that the way with electronics, fixing is more expensive than new.
Sometimes Texas does think it is its own country. I think Chicago should be its own state, the rules the state makes in the Capitol, Springfield, are so often to the interest of Chicago and not the rest of the state because so many of our legislators originate in Chicago.
Whatever brings the citizens of a country closer together is a good thing I think.

  11. This is not my home country mate, much like Summers whom hails from Australia came to be American.
I am an American and just like Summers I have the opportunity to claim either country of being my own.
If you were born within one land and then your parents were from another you always have the right to claim
within any time the land of which you wish. I truly enjoy the diversity of both America and Canada as well as
other lands. There are no gadgets with that Keith. It's the law of the lands.

  12. Sharon I don't know of any democracy that hasn't had problem's of which to tend too. Here right now there is a change which seems to be
taking place. Change seems to be the one thing that resonates within many lands. As everyone has their own agendas of what they wish to
see change. I still believe in the election process and I know that regardless of who comes to win. There will be areas that they can complete
within their term and there are some which take time. So often I think now we live within that immediate kind of thought where everything
shall be fixed and all with be idealistically complete. History proves that has never been the case with any democracy. Yet we live in an age
where we want everything done right now. ( If you know what I mean ).

  13. One is working off and on. The newest one works but the settings are all very pending. As far as whom shall win.
I think I could do a good prediction on it, and it might be now with a leader with a minority government. However a Prime Minister
of a country does not have all power which is a little bit of a contrast with a President where he or she does have all power if
they so desire to exercise it. So there is no dictation - there must be another word for this one. :)

  14. Within my province Pamela which is much like a state. I am very excited as without being arrogant I know the current leader here.
As well as one of my old buddies from high school is what is similar to a Governor. And today I was making a few calls as when it's
election time and you wish to get something done (such as this teeth thing) more than often all you have to do is pull out one of those
cards in which you did them a favor and more than likely they will do the same for you. As they want numbers...hmmm, I am not sure
that is the right thing to do but if you have a few cards from which to use as leverage now and then I feel that you do, I did.

However, this one is exciting up here. I honestly can say that. With regards to Quebec, I don't hate Quebec, never have. It's something
though to see that for the first time this person from Toronto might just be the Premiere (Governor) of Quebec. That shall be a first in
the history of Canada if it happens. Mind you as like the USA I feel that Canada is one country, not one country with a province which
proclaims as it has in history to be it's own. I feel that Canada is Canada as United States is Unites States - as I believe in unity. Yet
certainly there are differences within each province with an underlying thread that brings everyone together.

  15. Yeah each have there own manner. Yet within the past there were times in Canada's history that there was the first terrorist organization called the FLQ - the French Liberation Organization. At that time within Canada's history there were Canadians which were literally killed and back at that time within Canada's history. We were the first democracy to bring in Martial Law. Literally within Quebec the military literally were within the streets. Now there is differences but when you look at different interests - this was far from moderate and from that day on all never within Canada have wished nor thought of that happening again. Nor shall it. Yet it's apart of the landscape of Canada's history. Most never wish to even think about it. But still there is the old timers of Quebec which still feel that Blue and White surpass the Red and White. Now seemingly within this election those whom believed in separation have for the most part have became dinosaurs of their time.

The differentiation of all and the commonalities are what makes Canada tick. It's very much similar to the US. New Yorkers don't think the same as those in Utah on certain matters. As like Winnipeg would not have the exact same thoughts as Vancouver. That is what makes up a democracy I think Nancy. So often this term free I think is taken for granted - how do we define free now. Perhaps we might be too freely with this freedom?
Yet it's democracy and the way of the times.

    Five more days :)

  16. This is where I do proclaim Julie to be a Gemini as I am and ~smiles~ one side of me is American and the other is Canadian.
I am not sure if you ever read the book called, "Man without a Country", I forget whom was the author but I literally am one that
not only enjoys cultures, but I do see this as the land of mine. Then there is the other side which I really see myself as American.
That is so hard to even begin to explain. Yet I do. But right now I am in Canada, I love it with the exception of the weather and the eastern
side of America I can't even begin to explain how much I love America - despite the pluses and minus that are within both countries.

I have literally lived within my youth and then in later years returned to the US and despite what's going on up here. I literally love that
Statue of Liberty. I couldn't even begin to explain what America means to me. But at least I don't have to prove my place of birth. But
I used to know more on American history from learning within America than I did with Canada. Thus the Gemini. :)
I wasn't born in Hawaii though. And outside of the box I will mention that a President should never have had to go through the trivia
which happened recently. But these are those kind of times...I can't say I am all in favor of what I mentioned as this too free thing.
And it's not just within USA.

  17. Yes, there are some that think that TX technically is not and never has been one of the states. The history of it can be interesting enough. Just like the above history of Canada mentioned. I suppose each country has some sort of history along this line. Then again, maybe not, maybe just some of them do. Food for thought, regardless.

  18. so as of yet you haven't been asked to make the choice or they are waiting on you to decide ?

doesn't one have more benefits if they swear to one side or the other which are denied while one is between two for want of a better term " Mistress's" ?

  19. Nova Scotia was a declared colony of the US before Georgia. If my history serves me correctly George Washington banked out of the only international back back then. Yet so be it. Who would ever think that from California to British Colombia there was a thread of land that was considered parcels of land which were founded by the spanish?

  20. Yes one declares a country of which to live and Keith I made that choice ten years ago yet if I wish to change my residency it would be either or.
Right now I am pleased to live and reside in Canada. I have no hesitation with that yet if there was a time within my life (any given time) I could file and return to America. There are pros and cons to either side of the 49th. Right now I am content aside of the winters to reside in Canada. I know where your going with this and I would love at some time to return to New York. But as my folks are nearing there end, I feel good with my status within and in Canada. (I hope that is what your question was as I have a friend whom is of the same status as myself and resides in Boston his father was my father's attache). I think that within the next ten years there shall be much more or less differentiations between United States and Canada. I believe that within the next decade we shall see that these two countries evolve not entirely but almost into one. The benefit is the opportunity to have the choice - I like that.

  21. I do not understand politics. I always wonder why people from whichever party do not realize they are playing for the same team.

  22. yes no debate on that one Jack it's great to have choices :-)))

  23. Jo the last couple days I have been writing on politics but I enjoy other areas as well. It's an interesting time within the world.
I never was a history major but I love history which includes governments I guess.
