Rick Mercer - Within the State of Affairs in Canada

He is as hilarious as they come and as well all too smart. Rick Mercer has a few shows and he has a manner within how he presents things. He certainly isn't dumb. The areas that he covers and converts into a hilarious slant is that of one that is undoubtedly one which his hilarious. He has three shows and he can take an area or subject and satirize it in a way that is all to his own. Now here is one person that can take a subject and make you think with regards to it with a flair all onto his own. Of recent here in Canada we are coming up to elections and I thought this was worth the posting. He actually hits on subjects and does make a statement but all within his own way. This was one of a couple that are in regards to the election and the negative ads that take place. The guy has the chops with no doubt as few come close to how Rick Mercer can present something as he is one of my favs as it's not satire, it's "satirick".

In Canada there are several candidate one who left Canada and taught within Harvard and then just a few years came back and has taken on the Prime Minister. Prime Minister Harper never really needed to call an election. But here in Canada we go to the polls on May 3rd. The manner he can take a topic and combine comedy with is something far and few between can do such as Rick. Canadians from what I have experienced have never taken things too serious. Rick sorta exemplifies this in what is called a "Newfie" way.

  1. Well he is really smart and well ... he walks fast and think fast which means not only he has the cardio-prep but a brain that is receptive to spontaneous thoughts.

  2. Gotta love Rick - This Hour Has 22 Minutes and Talking to Americans were and are two of my favorite shows of all time.

(It was, however, embarrassing in the extreme when he interviewed our very own George 'Dubya' Bush - and the illustrious Mr. Bush said with a straight face that he appreciated 'Prime Minister Poutine's' endorsement of his candidacy for president - or the interview with Harvard students right there in the Yard, where they expressed indignation that 'Canada's National Igloo' had melted....

Sadly, we've dumbed-down our education system to the point where these things are possible. Go see any episode of "Jaywalking" on Youtube if you want more proof.....

  3. Well done, Mr Mercer!

A potential candidate for Prime Minister could do a lot worse than teach at Harvard for a time.

  4. He is one that is definately a newfoundlander as you can tell it within his way as Newfies feel that if you don't come from the island you never really do belong. He works out of Toronto and yeah he talks fast. I find that many canadians do speak fast when I come to think about it.
Yet here out west we are a little more laid back. :)

  5. Ha! Will, yeah he has that show. When he did that with Bush - Bush had no idea what was going on as far as President Bush at that time thought was
that he was a reporter. He often will do satire on the US. It's where he got his start I think. But he has recently choose to hit on Canada and all that is going on and to hear his rant is a hoot to say the least.

22 minutes is one of a few shows that he has now. I would think he is much like Colbert. Come to think about it - it would be rather neat if Colbert and Mercer would do an episode together now that would be something.

  7. Doug, I have to say that last night I watch the CBC news with Peter Mansbridge and how ironic as Liberal candidate Micheal Ignatieff returned to Canada from Harvard two years ago and some and thought that right from the getgo he could be Prime Minister. It's not that far away before we go to vote and Prime Minister Harper has recently been firing back at Ignatieff as there have been too many negative ads. I don't think it's within even a thought here that a performer would run - but ones as the such as Rick Mercer have there free flow with satirizing what all is happening here and it's too enjoyable to watch.

Even if he is a was "found" in a "new land". :)
