Part of today was getting together with my friend Jim. He was the first of two people when I came into Canada. We attended high school together as well as we always kept in touch. From his coming to visit me when I was living in New York City to then upon my return. It's not a sad story it's a good story as Jim and I are much like brothers. Mind you he is married and has those obligations, but when he has that time we get together. It's funny how time doesn't play a factor with some friends. As he and I have know each other for nearly 20 years now.
There is so many things that we relate to and when we get together we just have that hoot of a time. This morning he called me and said, "I will be there in 15 minutes". Well with Jim that usually means half an hour. Yet we went for a coffee and did that catch up as he recently came back from a vacation with his family in Cuba. All I can say is that he has seemingly done it right. As well, he has matured as time has gone on. He works within the federal corrections and is a friend there when ever it's needed. His mother used to always say, "Jimmy is going to need you down the road", when we were younger. But Jim literally worked hard and has a family and a wife and in this day and age he as well has surpassed time.
When we get together we just have a hoot. We talk about all things and before you know it Jim's saying, "hey I have to get going". He seems to be on the rush all the time but I can appreciate that as he works full time and then part time with another job. We went to the same University and there is always that thing where as soon as you answer the phone or start talking you know whom it is.
I couldn't be happier than having the bud of mine as I have travelled so much that all to often you tend to loose contact with some friends. Yet Jim has stayed in one place and it was just the right timing this morning before I went to see this shopping center I built - that Jim and I would have that two hour time to just do that yadda yadda thing.
Mind you I never asked him if he met Castro.
But we talked about everything under the sun...
You said his vacation was with his family. Does he have kids as well as a wife?
ReplyDeleteYeah out of all of us that graduated Susan he is one of the few that has kept married and does have three
ReplyDeletechildren as well as a fine wife.
Good friends are the treasures of life. I was blessed today as well...I met with one of my long time friends over Thai food.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to have a friend like Jim, I wish that your friendship exist forever.
ReplyDeleteSincerily....Marcell.
I dont think America suggests going to Cuba, I have a best friend of 42 years in Barbara, I'm glad you had a nice visit with your friend... Me and Barbara always joke that the only problem with having a friend for life is that they knew you when and you cant reinvent yourself and get away with it..lol
ReplyDeleteMelody we have known each other since we were 17 and we get together and there is nothing we
ReplyDeletecan't talk about. It's very cool.
Si, Marcell I moved into Canada from NYC at the age of 17 and we met in the lunch room
ReplyDeleteand have been friends more like brothers since then. Hola and thank you for your invitation.
These are the most awesome friends!!!
ReplyDeletePam, Canada never closed the door to Cuba during the Cuban Missille Crisis - that is why here we can go there for vacations. Jim and his family decided too. Me and Jim are much like you best friend Barbara as we just talk like 20 years ago was just yesterday.
ReplyDeleteIt's neat as I have one other friend that I have kept in touch with whose name is Rick, and Ricky lives in Orlando. But I am up here :)
Happy you have a good friend like that and keep in touch.
ReplyDeleteYeah from then to now Patty and he is only blocks away. This is him back in NY when he visited.
ReplyDeleteWe all age but the process of what we hold onto is that which matters.
Timeless friendship.
ReplyDeleteCastro said it is good to be a little crazy. I like that. He and Che Guevara are my hero's. Especailly Che. He was a medic in the army and he never left a soldier behind no matter the danger. He had very bad lungs and had a lot of trouble with breathing. No matter the conditions,he marched along side the others in humid jungles and pushed himself very hard.He didn't use his illness as an excuse to not work as hard as the next guy.
ReplyDeleteGrammy yeah it is - just logged on and shall see you tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteChe Guevara was a person which wished inititally to be a doctor and well the story goes as you know Ericka. At first his mission was very different to what he came to be but Che was an icon of sorts. I would drop over but I just came back online and to bed I go! But all the best to you.
ReplyDeleteChe is a story of it's own. There was a movie made on him which I am sure you have seen.
true friend is a treasure, a gift from God.
ReplyDeleteThe truth with regards to friends is that within good times and when and if there are times of hardships - they don't waver from
ReplyDeletebeing that friend. It's really just as simple as that.
what a great moment..
ReplyDeleteSounds like a cool guy! He is very good looking anyway. Everyone needs a long time friend.
ReplyDeleteThe silly guy he bought me something in advance for my birthday and I spent two hours at a place to find out how to set up
ReplyDeletethe gizmo...Yeah we get together about two times a week this weekend we were but his sister and mother came into town
so he has his stuff and I have mine. We were considering going down to this area called the Hoodoo Mountains but
we shall on another weekend.
Nancy I kid you not when he was a little younger so often when he was mistaken for a Tom Cruise.
ReplyDeleteI am not kidding. I think he got a kick out of that but his wife didnt. Yet he is just a very decent friend.
Down to earth and not all self obsorbed. But he was a little when we were younger. But as time went
on as with all of us we mature and come to find the realistic things and the things which are of value.
He would and still does look at something and he will look at me and say, " whats that". As he is
always a kidding and joking and oh when we were younger that was a story onto itself. :)
