Picture Perfect ~ Competition Time #1 ~ Juxtaposition ~

Within the City - Quebec 057

~Juxtaposition~

This was taken while I was within Montreal. There was so much culture to be seen there and while for the second time I headed into the city I literally took my time in trying to get as many pictures as I could. This picture to me is precious as when you were in Montreal you would see so many great old buildings.

What I loved about this picture is that you there stood a very old and large church meanwhile right behind it was a modern skyscraper. The lighting was right, the two buildings were side by side. This is my submission within this them of Juxtaposition as there is a relevance and contrast of two vary different buildings built in very different times in history. The Church was built within the 1800's while the other was built within our modern age. The two contrasted in size, purpose as well as size.

Peace,

Jack aka "Initiative Stain"

  4. Yep I was just there for three months and it was something and the only province within Canada that I have never seen now I know why they have such a vast history that goes back over 400 years. Thanks Karen! (Not sure if your a member of this very different group but it's truly neat to say the least)..

I should re-join, it is a brilliant group

  6. I love it due to one thing....it's like an online National Geographic Mag with pictures. Really it's as simple as that.

  7. Thank you Lanie....I have not partaken in some time and I hope I did this one right in the way you submit but I am not in it for the competition I just love the varied vantages - photography that is. Looking forward to your submission when and if you do.

  8. Ah Jack you had the perfect picture for this theme of Juxtaposition. Well done.

  9. Naw Mimi, it's just a picture really I love how there are so many different places and thanks all the same. I haven't
partaken in it for some time but it's really a very interesting place but Juxtaposition was not that easy.
Yet it's truly great to see the pictures from around the world - I do mean that. Thanks down there....
Looking forward to your submission btw. :)

  10. This is wonderful Jack! I've grown much accustomed to your angles. They seem to lend a subtle intensity. Bravo! :)

  11. Great picture Esti and I used to live there but the colors as well as the modernization is truly temendous. You have to love the pic as well as NYC!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Thanks Maggie, and yours was great on the eyes as well, the words coupled with the vantage/photo of nightfall.
The words combined with the pic is something that is definately your own style. We all have our own takes and this is what
    makes these submissions so unique.

  13. a wonderful entry Jack:) the angle is really great

  14. Thanks Cinn, it's been a while and this kinda came out large but thanks all the same and coming over to see if you have one.

  15. I love the mingling and contrast of the old and new, great shot Jack!

  16. I love the subjects with the old and new aspects, which are great and awesome angle!
    Thanks for the visit :-)

  17. Thanks Jules it's been a while since I have really partaken within this group but it's really a nice one, well great if you as me but 800 members and it's all to interesting (I do keep saying it but it is).

  18. Yours was truly nice as well Danette, I have never seen colourful canned fruit and all done as such.

  19. Cathy I know what you mean there are some within here that do illustrate not just a contrast but that old and new aspect.

  20. Just finished dinner here and I was going to mention that yours was rather neat as mentioned, I liked the how you called it "Sole-Mates".

  21. old and new making it seem very different yet the older building is more beautiful x

  22. Hey Rosie, it came out large flickr has made some changes but my intention was not to have it as large as it is.
I partake within this group and one gets away from there writings. I know your not a member but it's the closest thing I found
in being within Europe, Quebec is over 400 years old and over here there has never been a society that has that kind of history.
While living in New York how many would fly to Montreal or old Quebec City as they wished to see something in my own experience
it's was the only province in Canada that I literally saw with my own eyes this kind of history. And the buildings, they are much like
over there as United States and Canada are relatively young with our buildings in comparision.

I will go on to write but it's nice seeing pictures literally from around the world, I do mean that!

  24. I do and it was good simple but creative and good. This was one theme that really I think everyone had on there mind for some time and then there it is I see yours and it's simple and it does fit Cath.

  25. Vicky your picture was great, I do mean that I it's all in the array of what we feel good with doing. I for the life of me was trying to figure out what this jaxtaposition - it's a theme a good one. And where I reside now is just a town that is 250,000 thousand, it's called a small town yet a growing city.
Great picture you have there as well as I think there is no one better than the other it's all in the creativity.

  26. Lisa yours as well...yours was about nature meets the urbanized life and was great as well.
Thanks...I don't know when the last time I didnt take something without anglizing it as there is always something symbolic I wish to capture.

  27. Thanks Rita, it's been a while but may I borrow your camera? :)
    Kidding aside thank you...

  28. this idea works well jack..typically a skewed shot doesnt work well but this one does due to the juxtaposition and a skewing of time lines...

    ReplyDelete
  29. John they all are great, I have not partaken in sometime but man the pictures that are within PP are amazing.

  30. This is an excellent example of the theme Jack, I do love the way the old sits perfectly alongside the new..even the lampost adds to the juxstapositon of the shot!

  31. Well I went to Montreal for three months and I didnt have the intention for it to come out so large but thanks all the same and again, I truly enjoyed this as there are pictures that are just something that does really amaze one when they look at it and the theme man you had something to think about before really placing something on.

    Thanks much Heather.

  36. Just getting in here and Sharon, I loved Montreal. I would be most happy to share with you as I don't see it as a conflict to PP. Montreal is a tremendous city I was living in Dorval which I am sure you would know. I cover so much of the culture there as I was there as a kid but in going on my own and just travelling through the city. Sharon, I am not doing a promotion here but it really was something that within the first time of pondering around I was amazed and felt that I was in some place in Europe. I kid you not. I covered more than 20 buildings and 7 of which were churches. It truly was something that I found to be truly amazing. Amazing does not really describe it. But downtown after on my own going out and meeting with people. It was something that was a complete to what I wished to do and wanted to do in meeting people. Diversified.....Montreal is one of the most diverse places I have ever seen in my lifetime yet aside of New York.

PM me if you wish as there are some places that most would not know where these places were and by all means your more than welcome to them. I don't do this but I live out West and was born in the US yet I love this country as I am certain that you know what I mean.

Yeah I saw yours yesterday...this theme was really different yet unique as your shot was and all were. I have to get my photo editor working actually I have to get this computer re serviced but a great on to you there Joanne.

  41. Gary what do you mean regarding skewed shots...if you could expand on that I would appreciate it. I literally took the picture off my flickr account as you know I have always used it but I have to take some time and format this computer and place back on my photo editor....however I am not sure what you mean by skewed...

    ReplyDelete
  42. Great shot there. I would like to visit Montreal someday. It looks like it would be fun, given the juxtaposition of the old and new all around you ;-)
"Skewed" meaning it is angled. Pretty unusual to skew a picture of a building or landscape, but it does work well here. Good job. Thanks for visiting.

  45. Your welcome as well as thanks Tess, I could be wrong but the largest pumpkins come from your state, if memory serves me correctly.
When you looked at it for some time you could see the contrast although it was very eye catching as I have never seen pumpkins all so symmetrical as you had.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I am still pondering on what skewed means with this picture I placed on. :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. Is your head tilted to the left when you view this picture? hehe

    ReplyDelete
  48. Got it, often I do that as I am trying to render a few things and lol I have done it since I started taking pictures, it's just my own way :)

    ReplyDelete
  49. Baskets in the City now this was a brilliant shot there Jen.

    ReplyDelete
  50. No, I will see something and then thereafter I will home in on what I am finding within what I wish to obtain. I have laid down, turned my head. I have done some rather silly things in obtaining a picture. For me it's all within the angle as well as zoom. It's just my way of doing it. :) I do know what skewed means now without bragging as I am not one to do so, when the creativity gets going, I just love to do many within this manner. As I don't have one of those long zoom attachments. But yeah my head has tilted around several times, yet it's all in good fun. :)

    ReplyDelete
  51. One word with your shot, well it's more than a shot, it's art!
    Awesome Sonny!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Annette, as mentioned I would not be in PP if it wasn't for you some time ago! Thanks and you have
always taken great pictures most of all always something within nature.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Thanks but wow back great one you have there! Seemingly I missed a few and glad I saw this Jacquie!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Thanks Sue and yours was differerent a great different that is!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Now Jan, I know before I open this that there is a surprise. With no doubts and before if I may say I have never seen one like yourself that is able to do so many different creative things which are predominantly from your own thoughts and creativity. So I guess with a sip of coffee here I am looking forward to seeing what you have. Thanks for the comment on mine and yeah I love obtaining pictures for a different angles with the odd exceptions.
    Now taking a look...

    ReplyDelete
  56. Thanks much just was within your site and Jan I was honest with my remarks. This is not your best picture that you have taken, I feel that I can say this as I feel that we pretty much are good friends with similiar interests with music and photography. That all said, you do have a "juxta" happening within there and it's great. You have been to Spain and within your pic, there is more than just one contrast. Great shot from a multi talented artist. (Thought I would mention)

    ReplyDelete
  57. Wayne now this is the first of it's kind. How many mall owners, large retailers and all will still have a on going lease on the land but they decide to leave it. I have seen this happen all to often until cities place in bylaws as well as landlords enforce the signed lease. This is sad how land can be left and not tended to and this is the first of it's kind within the theme within Juxtaposition. How this defines it in a manner that sends out a message at the same time. I might be saying too much here but this picture has a mission of it's own. If only the ones that leave land to go like this could realize what a negative contrast it gives. In your state especially usually from what I recall there are great bylaws that are in place and only if they would be enforced.
Great shot and from my view great statement as well.

Thanks for the visit to mine and all the best.

  58. Thanks Juliana, last night I saw what you placed on and I could see that you were not all that please with it, but I think often we the term "Picture Perfect" brings out the desire for perfection. I read your comment and then I looked for two minutes at your picture and then really the camera and your own "minds eye" was capturing something that was multi dimensional - which does contrast as well you had the color as well as the clarity was right within this them and it was better than what you thought. Thanks with regards to mine, skewed and all its just way I took it and thank you much for your comment. I don't think there is one person that has a "perfect" picture, I think there are pictures that are rendered and there really is art that comes out from what we see within our own minds eye. The vision that we are seeking, that capture, the essence within the time in which we do take a shot. I rarely will just click and run off 500 pictures and then choose which ones to delete as within that very moment I know when I see something what I wish to capture as you have and everyone has within this group.

I do talk/write allot as today is an off day for me so aside of doing some things around the house as it's pouring again this morning I thought I would take the time to address this within my own way. Yours is a capture that certain does fit very well within Juxtaposition and glad to have seen it right now as well as last night.

My shot wasn't taken in Montréal's international fireworks competition, if thats what you refer to. I love the Montréal competition.... OUT OF THIS WORLD. mine was taken at my summer place in the Ouatouais .... (close to Ottawa). Still a very nice demonstration for cottage country hehe.

  69. Ok, as there was one that was done by Benson and Hedges but the renamed it and it was near Dorval, I can't think of the name right now but I don't think for some time Mimi that I will ever see the likes of a city as Montreal. I saw so many place and I never really realized how distinct it was. I loved it immensely.
