Well we have seen many things this year. But this is one that hits dearly to my heart with a friend that lives right in Mexico City. I have known her and her family for years and unfortunately this is the place that this swine flu has started.
I don't believe that this will become a pandemic in my own opinion. My hopes are that it can be contained as soon as possible. It seemingly has spread even up into parts of Canada and over into Europe yet I do believe in the manner it's being taking into consideration by governments by way of the medical areas of countries all over the world. I am optimistic it will be contained and will come to a deminish before too long.
There really is not much more than one can say...
I guess, it becomes a threat to everyone because it spreads fast and several people are affected by the viral infection. We have one private school that is temporarily closed because of three students who are infected by it. This is scary, Jack.
ReplyDeleteSwine flue i watch the news and it seem this could spread from pigs and birds to human create some virus that no one knows to cure except if you have tamiflue ..a bit scary feel sad for 152 mexican dead in mexico yes very close in New Zealand the college student 5 of them had problem with the virus :(

ReplyDeleteBut it does have the whole world on alert. I listened to a CBC interview with a new case in Victoria. She had been in Cancun. It kind of makes me want to stay at home. Have you heard what the incubation period is? We were in California a few weeks ago and in contact with many people in markets and campgrounds.

Read my mind Karyn, I think that in Mexico yes, but the entire world I don't think people have to be scared about it, but informed and feel confident that it will be no a pandemic that takes over the world.

Mexico is entirely contained right now...you would almost think that the best situation is no travel for a small period of time as well as a closure of the border - I hate to say that but I could be way off.

ReplyDeleteI think so as well, Jack. Information about this and heeding the basic rules of cleanliness may well keep this from spreading. Hopefully the Mexican authorities have acted in time for all concerned down there.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts Doug....there is no reason to jump to conclusion but there are some states that are more prone to it, outside of that I think that we are not facing a pandemic but my thoughts go out out there to the bordering states and as well within Latin America - especially Mexico.
ReplyDeleteThere was the bird's flu years ago and now the swine flu. Good thing it hasn't reached our shores yet but the governent agencies like the airport are watching out so no one brings it here to my country.

Friends of ours, who are close, had symptons, but just one of them got influenza, maybe another kind of not to strong virus, or treated against it on time. At least he is ok, and taking medicine till next Thursday, he didn't need to be ingresed to hospital, just a medical visit and rest.
We are very very concerned about this situation, and only going out to places which are necessary to go, like supermarket. I went this morning there and it was full of people, half of them wearing blue masks but others not take this seriously. I bought a reforce for breathing cells that doctor send us. ReplyDeleteThis swine flu is readily transmitted between humans. Outbreaks reported as of today:
· Mexico City—854 cases of pneumonia, 59 deaths
· San Luis Potosi in central Mexico—24 cases, 3 deaths
· Mexicali—4 cases no deaths
· US—8 cases for sure (more each day), none severely ill, except possibly one; no deaths. Cases are in Kansas, Texas, San Diego County, and Imperial County.
I believe in privacy so but this has been a very good friend and family in Mexico City for a long time, I hope they are doing well.

Carlos acceptance is the key and I just wrote this as I was seeing it on the television here for the past couple days and all so often the media does take it a little further than what is necessary. Being informed is good - being alarmed isn't. In my opinion.

ReplyDeleteI can only say that we have a number of cases here in NZ with students who have been to Mexico. They have recovered so well that there is talk of them going back to school tomorrow!

ReplyDeleteA few came here into Canada and I the video is old but this is something where I feel that it's worthy to have some compassion even here people are worried and I am one to worry on certain things but knowing is more important - what Amy wrote is probably true, but for myself I am confident that within all our countries but especially down there and as well in Mexico it shall come to a closure by all in the world heath organizations working in concert.

it seems to me that this possible pandeflu, is another topic abused by media. such kinds of news sell well, and they know how to create fear. lets hope they are wrong.
ReplyDeleteReporting in from Baja, Mexico. According to my doctor neighbor, there are no cases here....yet. We were in San Jose del Cabo yesterday taking people to the airport, and did see several people wearing masks there, and downtown. Preventative medicines are not available on the shelf. Schools have not been closed here, and life is going on as usual, but people are very aware of it, and perhaps not as "affectionate" as usual. No hugging, kissing, shaking of hands when you greet a friend.

ReplyDeleteCertainly flue symptoms have been reported but people travel with this type of illness 24/7 and probably would have not bothered had it not been for the scare.
It has been a Gift Horse for Politicians to ride.

ReplyDeleteIronically there is a company that was not inspected and is a very large one that is in a small town near Mexico city. They were dumping all matter and waste into a waterway and what they are saying was the host of all this was a boy. He caught it and had it without any medicine and it spread from there.
Parrie yeah anyone that apparently had contact with people in the area of this within Mexico City and surrounding areas are the ones that brought the flu back. Ironically as in so many of our countries the flu was caused by company owned by the US that was dumping bad waste in the waters near a very small town.
ReplyDeleteI have seen that happen here with a company here - a large company and after they had inspections they had to entirely closed down there operations in all of Canada one year ago - something to think about.
A good eve to you there and most cases outside of Mexico are considered not as alarming. Learning about the flu is probably the most important thing - but this is not what we call a pandemic - it will be contained....
Bill I think this is something that does have some merit, not my blog but this flu. I don't think the politicians are riding this one but the media may be really scaring people beyond what is really necessary.

Lulu, I don't know why but at the same time I find that within life you go about doing things but I do when there is something that comes up I will embark on it as I do find that it's important yet we still carry on with life.

South Africa has also had 7 confirmed cases, but each and every one of the patients has been treated and sent home! No deaths.
