Caressing with Winter
Awakened on the cold of the winter
There are no adjustable
Within the arrangement nor order
Thus this is winter for which I do surrender
Within the northern skies
There is a calm, tranquility
Within the depths of the cold
Perhaps it’s something of which
I surrender
Oh winter she comes and leaves
Feel the temperature
See the sight
Hear her sound
Mind you there is a sound
Yet it’s of that of frozen smiles
And echoes from days far beyond
Yet with ease
Caressed by the frosty example
Thus winter is casting its breath
I inhale and exhale the view
Within the grounded white
Along with the chill
Comes the understanding
Of heavens on earth unfolding
Not merely static
Yet within a slower motion perhaps
But the imagery is still that
Which is sought
An icy cold elegance
Within the manner and order
Which transpires
With the earth, wind and sky
The manner was of what is was
That of nature awakening
On her very own terms
Within the winter sky
Embraced and respected
As I caressed the winter land of example

Gorgeous photo! Wonderful write. :). Stay warm xx
ReplyDeletefrozen smiles, caresses, surrender...such wonderful words to honor a season that doesn't always inspire these thoughts
ReplyDeletePhoto looks like an angel's wing....how is the sun reflection made like that on either side?
ReplyDeleteThanks Cinn. Those are sundogs and staying warm here.
ReplyDelete"frozen smiles form and return"- I wrote this within the morning and just left it be. But I did wish to write something within the mode
ReplyDeleteof winter and hence this is what I came up with.
jack...it is stunning. Truly.
ReplyDeleteMel, they are sundogs and we have had them taking place here for nearly three days. I kid you not and when it gets very cold this is what takes place, as it's to do with the mercury within the air.... Aside of the temperature....
ReplyDeleteThere is that caress one does within this time of the year. And yes they are reflections.
I've got a photo of a sundown yesterday not aptly photographed but stillness of the image was there.
ReplyDeleteYour current feel of the moment was all there in your poem, Jack. And what you want to impart on everyone has been carried out. The comments of your friends were all given. It was all there.
An beautiful imparting words by way of a poem.
sun dogs are interesting , goes with the poem nicely
ReplyDeleteI love photography and tonight I thought I would post this one as I just love to flow with something. As said before within just a word, or an image there is something that may be rendered. Hence it's what it is. Just words...:)
ReplyDeleteTee we have had three days of tremendously cold weather and finally now we are coming
ReplyDeleteinto a warmer climate - thank god!
How quietly & calmingly beautiful ... both the soothing image and your thoughts :)
ReplyDeleteReminds me of an angel wing in the warm light.
Sun dogs! I haven't heard that term in awhile but thank you for the label. Now I know!
ReplyDeleteThank you Maggie you have always been one that is gifted with words...
ReplyDeleteYou can take anything and then blend it within a manner so there. :)
Yeah they happen in Siberia and here :)
ReplyDeleteGotcha :) Smiling with ya..
Aw Jack, what a kind thing to say. I appreciate you.
ReplyDeleteAnd we have sun dogs here also ... they sometimes remind me of tiny pieces of rainbows that have broken free and nestled in the clouds. So pretty :)
Just changed my socks and thanks Maggies as it's true from what I recall.
ReplyDeleteWe all do write and within that creative manner. So there :)
Just as I surrender to winter and fall into its rhythms spring starts calling out to me, teasing me with melting snows and warming temperatures.
ReplyDeleteThere are words :)
ReplyDeleteThis was a nice way to end the day ....:) very nice
ReplyDeleteNice Write Jack ,
ReplyDeleteAnd just at the right time too..
And how awesome are those good Ole Boys the sun dogs.. Its not to often that you get such profound statements of natures beauty in such perfect symmetry.
