An Old Friend - The Jeweller Gerry of GMG Jewellers.

When I first started within this area of shopping centers I opted to do all aspects within my first year as manager. I would manage, lease, collect rents, and put on promotions and pretty much do everything as I was learning my chops. Today was my one day off and I had been to several places. Which included the second largest shopping center in the city. After I was finished doing some things there with the new company put in place. I went across the street and there was the jeweler that had been there since I was in was 22.

We would swoon Jerry as we wished to fill up a development that we had but today I met him for the first time in a long long time. And it’s rather neat as you walk in and there is the name and you just hit it off. Not many independents retailers have lasted some 23 years as Gerry and his wife have. When we met we hit it off as we sat and recollected and the common comment between the both of us was “ that ways a long time ago “. It was. I was a kid and he was a mid 40’s entrepreneur. I never was able to render a lease agreement with Jerry but today it was fun to just sit down and talk and the inventory that this guy has is beyond me. Diamonds and all it’s an area that does certainly cost money but Gerry in comparison to even large retailers within this area has always prevailed. He has been in the same location for all these years.

I merely wished to get a picture of a ring being made and he went on in such
detail and the enthusiasm that he has...well that never was lost by this gent and I think that is what has kept him in business throught all these years.

  2. This was a first for me.. I had been within many stores but I never had this and I had no intention on doing a video but
heck it was fun and when he got started I just then turned on the video of my camera...but man he could always speak
a mile a minute. This Jerry. But he and his wife they literally started with merely nothing and certainly do well. But are
    just very down to earth.

  4. Mel, it was if I would have had more time but it was a non chalante type of day.
The largest diamond I saw was worth $ 200 grand. Now this is where I say money
    can't buy me love. :)

  6. He speaks fast and I just was not able to catch up with him.
This is where there is that mix of American and Canadian within me I guess.
Yet out within these parts it's rather American or it's hard to place a finger on it.

  8. It is indeed amazing to me the talents of jewelry makers. Of course I'm amazed at all the talents in all different art forms - paint, ceramics, wood, food, music.....

  9. I never was much for art nor could my older brother has and is but by way of the pencil within his spare time but Susan this just merely caught my eye while I was leaving yesterday from one building to my car and I decided to go in as I could see there was the same name of the business. And as well it was the same owner.

  11. Yeah it would be fun. It was interesting to talk yesterday to these gents as they were from Mexico and while he went down I just got into a talk with them as I knew they were from latin america and for some reason we it's something that there is always that thing in lack of words were I find that I have that recollection of my past within the spanish culture Suzy. Yet to do that type of work. I would imagine it's a very refined skill to say the least.
