The Medical System

There is much to be said really when it comes to Canada's medical care program. It's right now as well going through an overhaul. There are not many one-doctor practices any longer. Tomorrow I will be meeting with my doctor and this will be the first in some time. I have everything set up here as it was part of my day but I do have my reservations and there are only so many doctors that are accepting any more. As they system has come to be drained. Maybe she will surprise me but I do have some reserve as to get by the time I was in trouble and decided to head into emergency she I had found that she was only a part time doctor and within a clinic that has some 20 doctors she always made a note within the clinic so that her clients would only be seen by here. So tomorrow shall be something but here you just don't rock the boat as within this medical system everyone is tightly connected.

In some ways I do wish to speak my mind with her but I will only have 15 minutes to do so as the way the system works here is that a "practicing doctor" is paid by the number of clients they see, the referrals of specialist they refer you too as well as the prescriptions they give.

So it will be something to see how this goes. I can't say I am looking forward to it. But I aside from here I have several other things that are lined up by way of a hospital. Now if she would have not kept all her clients and all to herself this might not have happened however I can't go there as it's all within the system.

So we shall see how it goes. In many ways I just wish to go along with what is all set up for me by way of the hospital - however she has been copied and emailed everything so it all is in her hand. So you have to just go along with this but I do believe within the choice of medical care. How I see this system here is that if firefighters where paid in the same manner that physicians where paid there would be a fire within the city every five minutes.

Yet here to I know I have to just accept it for the temporary but there is one side of me that is saying to just do this all within a holistic manner as I really have my reservations with her tomorrow and for good reason.

Regardless of what is done time I believe is a healer and for the amount of perscriptions that are wrote I do hope she is not into doing a rush with medications.

  1. Do you have private health insurance? Is the system any better if you do? I remember they did an experiment in Australia with two pregnant women, the one with private health insurance paid more than the one that didn't, mind you she could choose her own doctor. My last two surgeries, even with insurance subsidised through work, I had to pay over $3K for each. Ouch! Don't know how the hell they will fix the system here, such a mess... I don't pay attention to the bickering or any politics for that matter, bores me, they are gonna do what they are gonna do, to line their pockets under the guise of serving the general public..

  2. Go to he appointment prepared and remember doctors pracice medicine. If they got it right every time it wouldn't be called practice. At the same time with all that happened to you the need is there for medical intervention.

  3. I see lots of Drs, some I feel are not worth the co-pay I give them, I am at liberty to move on though and find another Dr. Question this Dr. with all your concerns, make her use her brain, get her to understand what your needs are, get her to treat you like Jack, not just another patient. Try to go in open minded.

  4. write your questions and concerns down so you do not forget---be brief and to the point and do not let her over ride your questions with a flippant answer--you are in charge of your own well being amigo so take full advantage of the time you have with the doctor--write down anything that you are not comfortable with and then research yourself..................

  5. Here is where it's still just a one tier sytem so that is the way it goes summers. So the origins of Canada's health care actally came by way of this province.

  6. Oh I am going and I just thought I would write this as there are many that think that Canada has the best system and at the same time it was a system that has been looked at by different countries but it's not a perfect system. However I am going to go, I can't afford not too but I feel that there is a large need now for an overhaul within the system here, it's been talked about many of times of how there is a need to change it and I do look forward to that day.

  7. We shall see what happens tomorrow as I think either she will be on the move this time or pass me onto a full time doctor within the clinic as it's one of the best here within the city.

  8. I have it all in place and at the same time I am going to make a few statements to her in a diplomate manner as if she is part time I feel that she should have passed me over to another physician as there are some that practice full time within there so I shall.

  9. Well I am going to head to bed and take in a movie and I bid all a great day/evening.

  10. She may be a very good doctor but part time because she's a mom with small children. When she's not available I'm sure someone else in the practice covers for her.

  11. Hope you get good news from this doctor Jack. You definately have seen your share of the inside of hospitals all too much lately.

  12. in italy it is much different, we have a good medical system so far and we hope they don't decide to change it according to the American system which is a bad one

  13. Hope it all goes well and you get the answers you are looking for. Good luck! ~hugs~

  14. Have your blood chemistry done. And don't depend on just one doctor, have at least two or three and compared. And please do some research on whatever prescripted meds you were about to take. Be well ...

  15. I am now in Alabama I with my BC med rather useless, and I pay for my 15 minutes just as you do. I get no more, no less, if I have a form filled in it costs me extra, as it did in Canada, I did not have out of pocket expenses for lab work, and hospital,
I do here, I also wait at least an hour to see my Dr. sometimes 2 ... this was the way it was back in Texas in the late 70's
It sounds like you are going to a walkin clinic and that is where the Drs. volunteer to work, they may well get paid but what I noticed was I found my special Dr in one of those and could see her easier than one of the Drs. in my clinic.
I much prefer the Canadian system.
At least the one I lived in for 28 years.
you can get a lot done in 15 minutes if you stay focused and do not veer off the subject. I have a bit of a job with that unless I have a script to follow, laying out everything that needed to be discussed and dealt with.
Good luck, I wish you well !

  16. ugg...good luck jack. i'm dealing with doctor issues myself here with my son. not fun at all. you could say the US is doing a major overhaul as well now that Obama is in office. so many things changing this year. gives me a tummy ache. holistic approach never looked so good!

  17. Thanks all I do appreciate this as in two hours I do take a taxi and see her and I am not going to overthink this one. We shall see how this does work out.
I used to over think some things and this now I can't but it's going to be rather humbling in walking in there but I have to forget about Ego. She has everything and we shall see how this goes. I do like the holistic approach as the last couple of day have been progressive. So once again I do say thank you I hope she is well prepared. As I don't wish to go down the wrong path with this. So I shall see how this all does go. It's very humbling yet my thoughts as well as the coordination have all been going well so we shall see how this goes - Thank you very much for your contributions.

  18. Remember, Jack, the best patient is an informed patient. If something doesn't sound right to you, don't be afraid to ask questions. It's your right, and it's in the best interest of both you and your doctor going forward.

    Good luck today!

  19. Jack,
I wish you the best, my Dr here did a blood test and informed me I do not have Lyme Disease anymore, the symptoms are all still here, the spirochetes have buried themselves and are in for the duration, I can approach my situation holistically at this point or go back to DC and get heavy duty antibiotics for it.
I would like to get a Rife or is it Rike like machine and a hyperbaric chamber and treat myself in my home.
I have been criticised for studying up and knowing what I am dealing with as I am to take the Drs advice and trust him/her
this coming from a psychiatrist when I was at rock bottom.
I believe the Good Lord would not give us anything that we are not equipped to deal with, and everything is for a reason.
God bless, hope that your day ends on a bright note, I myself am frazzled could use an ativan if I could find it, but am likely better off without it, eh?

  22. I have Doug and yeah I have had my share but those now are days gone past.

  23. Nico your system is much like here the only thing is that we are within a one tier system....within this province as what is known as socialized medicare came by way of a canadian man named Tommy Douglas.

  24. Done...and now the next page continues as indicated within the write of this evening.

  25. Nancy it worked out well and all things are in align. As Doug had mentioned I literally have been with family and now with myself with all of this and there was a time that I considered being a doctor back a few years back when I returned here from NY but keeping it simeple this did have a good outcome.

  26. Seemingly Kimmy most of what I thought was predominatily the case. I believe in a two tier system myself and right now here within Canada that is a very large factor that every doctors or anyone one within the medical arena often does mention. I think there are several things to consider but I am just glad that things worked out here. And seemingly this holistic approach is the right way to go. So lets see what spring brings.

  27. Maryanne, before I had to ask my doctor had already had all the information and I am not going to dwell on it but she really had no choice but to tend to things and it all worked out. So it's all in place now.

  28. Lyme disease does not occur here, I kid you not. It does in the Eastern part of Canada, and British Columbia but it never occurs here. Oh I have studied this and yet I am old school as I don't believe that I know better than them but have had my share of experience by way of other members of my family.

    ReplyDelete
  29. According to the powers that be in BC it does not occur there either, even though it has been proven otherwise and treatment of the disease has helped those who have it ( or are deemed to not have it ) I am having a not so great day today with it and I heated up a cup of tea in the microwave as my kitchen is still gutted ... burnt my baby finger on the cup handle ... that has NEVER happened to me before, so I am sure that it is a bad day now.. time to go to bed and try for a better one tomorrow!

  30. When I retired, Jack, I was allowed to keep my health, dental, and vision insurance at my own expense. I'm paying over $6,000 a year for this privilege, which does not include co-pays. It's insane but it's necessary. When I visit a doctor, I give him/her a typed copy of my medical history, which includes allergies, that I've prepared in a word document. Each time it is revised, my doctor gets a copy. And, I write down questions and give the doctor a copy of that, too. It just seems to make things much easier for the doctor and for me when we get to sit down and talk.

I hope everything goes well for you, Jack.

  31. Everything went well here and here everything is a click by way of a computer and any doctor can see your entire history. Tommy Douglas came up with the first medicare system and his home was right here. I took my own questions today and I before I got started she had already known everything that took place and there after we talked and devised a plan, which for the most part I had already done by way of the nurses. So again today I shall take a good nice walk and exercise is one thing that is mentioned so much. So I do have a strategic health plan, and I am not faltering with it Darbs. (hugs).

  32. There are many good doctors in our country but still reading a report on the papers it said a considerable number of patients have filed a complain about General Practitioners. The system plays a considerable role in this.

  33. Well I am past that now Ali, I watched a movie last night ironically it was with one of my fav actors and it was with regards to the health care system.
The name of it was "John Q." freaturing Denzel Washington on of my fav actors and it was made some time ago.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Oh, so you like Denzel. A few movies of him have been shown on TV in our country as well.

  35. If my memory serves me well you are in Iran, and you do have a great country there. It's a very progressive country but with respect your leader has never been truly accepted by the people. As I recall you from Y360. I am glad that your on here Ali. I think that the medical system is a global issue, and really does need to be addressed.

    ReplyDelete
  36. You are right, we live in Iran! And as you pointed out there are some politic problems in here.
    Thank you Jack!
As you said medical system has some problems almost in all countries.

  37. I can't say that I'm left with that impression. Often I hear stories of Canadians crossing into the US seeking medical treatment. Not to mention a friend who is in his early 40s who needed to have both knees replaced, which the system wanted to wait at least 10 years because they stressed that in doing the operation now, he'd need another knee replacement when he was older because it would wear out. What saddened me about his story is that he ended up losing one of his legs to just above his knee because of the delay. So, I would agree, the system doesn't sound perfect.
