It was interesting to read this as there seemingly is a new trend that is going on right now within Canada. Perhaps Canada is becoming the new area in which people do wish to immigrate too. I myself started to see it two years ago when there were people from so many areas of the world. This may be a new trend as I after a morning walk I was just taking a read. Still I could never place a finger on what this country is but it's immersing as time goes along. I read this within the New York Times : http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/13/world/americas/13immig.html?sq=canada immigration&st=cse&scp=1&pagewanted=all

  2. So Canadians seem to get it where Americans don't seem to get it at all. Funny how that happens

  4. Sharon, I guess I will say that Canada is was somewhere within the middle as I have always thought that we a mixture of Europe as well as the United States.
But within these times I have over my travels seen where Canada and new Canadians are so glad to be here. Just yesterday when I was catching a ride back home by way of Taxi this driver was from Hungary and came here just three years ago. I am half Hungarian, once mentioned she went on and on about how she had been to Budapest and all, her name was Elana and all I know in Hungarian is how to say Merry Christmas but it's really happening right now. I hope they understand how cold it can get :)

  6. Home isn't so much a location as an attitude of the heart. It was probably very difficult for some to leave a place they knew to come to something new and different America, Canada, wherever. Interesting read, thanks. My Dad's Grandparent's came to America from Finland..he went to work in the iron ore mines. Glad they did for the sake of my coming to be lol. Interesting link thanks

  7. I kid you not last night I was watching Daily Show with Jon Stewart - this guy actually is more informative and I was changing channels and when I watched last night show I forget the name of the book but Jon Stewart seemingly combines his humor with real reporting. But I think we are all within the same boat when it comes to what we are going through with the economy. I have to state that I was born American, and Canada and America have much in common Sharon. Especially western Canada, not due to my being here but Canada seemingly is starting to be the new place where many wish to live. Again, they better prepared for the seasons!

  8. My gandfather on my fathers' side came to Canada from Norway, his other two brothers had enough of Canada and one went to Australia and the other went to New Zealand. Then on my mother's side they all came from Hungary and they stayed. I am fond of my ancestors, all it's fascinating in what they did especially on my father's side. That was then. At that time in history America was seen as the new frontier. It still is. There is just an adjustment that seemingly is going on within America. To a lessor extent within Canada I suppose. This morning before I headed out, I was reading this and it's something that was predicted back in the 90's. And seemingly right now while United States is going through a good transition, the default country on this side of the pond is Canada. However I never looked at these two countries as having a border on the 49th.

Canada is a haven due to the a good economy combined with being the second largest land unless on wishes to move to China. :)
But from my vantage, I will always love America and in a few years I think that things will adjust. And Canada does have problems too but I when you consider the size of Canada and the population it's coming to create it's own fabric. I think it's about time Canada has been so cautious with so many things. Sorta like the english.

  9. ok magandang balita.

... wow this is great Jack. ok answer me in Tagalog' ... please :)
    tight hugs :)

  11. I liked and understood all of your link, but this is what I like best:

"But Arthur DeFehr, chief executive officer of Palliser furniture, does see a lesson: choose migrants who fill local needs and give them a legal path.

With 11 million illegal immigrants in the United States, he sees another opportunity for Manitoba. “I’m sure many of those people would make perfectly wonderful citizens of Canada,” he said. “I think we should go and get them.”

Of all my travels, I felt most welcomed~~as a visitor~~in Canada. Canadians have a fine sense of courtesy, sincere, friendly and helpful. A beautiful country, and who really minds the 'cold' weather so much compared to the rest?

  12. To "summer":

"a blue-collar town that gripes about the cold in Punjabi and Tagalog."

  13. Sig, the cold is really something that is harsh Manitoba is really the coldest province within Canada and here right next door to it, we have recently had a blizzard as of last night. Canadians are a combination of America and European. I think that during the last winter olympics last year, it really kind of illustrated whom Canadians' are by way of Vancouver. I myself as mentioned before was born and lived in America half of my life so < I have to place that as I truly love Canada yet I love the America in which I used to know while living there. I fortunately was covered in NY nine years by way of Cigna.
Sig I found this article to be something that took me by surprise yet over the past three years especially I have seen by way of my travels how there are so many immigrants here now and they keep coming in. I think it's rather a great thing but at the same time as within America, many Canadians are concerned that they will be taking over Canadian jobs - yet some Canadians won't do the work. So it's a repeat of what is happening there but seemingly the trend by way of the Government here is to bring in new immigrants. Mind you it's not easy to become a citizen here - it was in the 70's, 80's and 90's but there were big changes that were made here by way of the Feds.

With 11 million illegal immigrants in the United States, he sees another opportunity for Manitoba. “I’m sure many of those people would make perfectly wonderful citizens of Canada,” he said. “I think we should go and get them.” I am don't think the government would ever allow illegals in, but there are many that come here by way of taking the time and waiting and here I come to know some, that are literally now Canadians and seemingly we all blend. (I wrote too much but so be it thanks much for your your comments Sig.)

I'd have to say that's no surprise at all to me. There's been so much discontent here after the eight years GWB brought down the country. I hear many people mentioning they'd like to move to Canada, but of course it's difficult for some to uproot themselves, and as you say, things have changed and it's not as easy to become a citizen.

Illegal immigrants are being exploited in California, and probably elsewhere, by rich farmers, at the same time there's much hoopla about keeping them out. What a dichotomy. Personally, I hope there's not too much an infusion of Americans in Canada~~it's a beautiful country. In my opinion, in general, Americans aren't my favorite 'cup of tea.'

  16. I love the uniqueness of the world I really do. I have always loved culture and I do believe or
from my experience here in Canada we don't have a identity because we are of all cultures and
    we all blend together.
