The Winter Olympics of 2010...

Finally I have a good connection and today I was able to do do that catching up on things and as well talk to a friend of mine that resides in British Colombia and he was telling me of all the planning that has been going on right now with what will come about within the new year.

The Olympic Flame has been traveling across all of Canada and is now one third the way to reaching its destination. Over twelve thousand have carried this torch since leaving Greece. Along its path there have been over one thousand communities that this flame has passed through. There is something to be said of the Olympics as it brings out the finest that train for years for just the opportunity to compete. Within Vancouver’s stadium called “BC Place” the flame will reach it’s final destination on the 12th of February of 2010. I came across this picture and the flame that is carried is truly something that is symbolic. As when I think about how far it’s come to reach it’s destination it’s really something.

One billion has been spent for security and billions have been spent to accommodate housing for people that will be arriving for these games and it's literally there has been building that has gone on to accommodate everyone that goes beyond the city of Vancouver. I really do wonder with the economy the way it is will still give way to these games this year. I guess we shall see, but there is something to be said with regards to what either the Winter or the Summer Olympics represent.

  2. Vancouver is a beautiful city...I've visited there twice and I think this is the best choice for North America.

  3. The question comes to be if Vancouver will end up being like the Montreal Olympics as they took years to pay off all the debt and then the federal government jumped in to bail it all out.

  4. Doug within Canada - Calgary was the most prosperous Winter Olympics in Canada, I was there and it was marvelous but I really ponder if BC will end up being able to economically make enough profit that it pays for itself...we shall see. In contrast Calgary did tremendously well.

  5. I am having trouble getting up any enthusiasm for the Games. I do appreciate the world wide gathering in peace though.

  6. Karyn there has been so much money in the last three years my half brother that lives there was building housing in in Kelowna just to accommodate the expectation and you do live over there and I it's the only province I have never been to as you know but I hope it's not another Montreal in how the economy is right now at this stage but I as well do believe in the spirit in which it's all based on as well the element of peace. I myself have loved the Olympics since I was a kid and I remember the ones up in upstate New York and they were tremendous. The shift in the 80's and 90's from Toronto being the economic centre for Canada moved to BC and I hope that it all does work out and this does not become a waste and bail out if you know what I mean as so many games have not been economically sound.

  8. That torch truly has been symbolic through the years I see it as a representation of the spirit of achievement, pressing on in training and commitment and I'm sure oft with pain for the glory of victory not only personally but for the countries each one represents

  9. Very much so Cheryl, when I finally had a connection here I do believe in what it represents yet my hopes are that it is successful and not an economic blunder.

  11. Most all Olympics have never been economically feasible. Meaning there is not that rate of return of the moneys that are spent.
But during these times when we are inundated with the wars, the economy, and so on it's one area that still brings about unity
and enjoyment in watching - that is in comparison to most things that we read in the newspaper or see on the news.
