For this year of 2009, I thought I would touch on the year in review within my own way. I think out of all the stories. I feel the best story or a benchmark that will go down in history. President Barack H. Obama. I don't think that regardless of politics has the entire world really come together to a better extent do to the words of this man. Remember the Inaugural address that took place in the beginning of this year? I find that regardless of the political sides of things as one of the most symbolic time of this year was this man and what he stood for. Amazingly people not only from within the United States but so many from other countries as well. I would have to say that within this year of 2009 this was probably the most sensational time that I have found taken place within this year. He resonated change, and a very intelligent man that so many from all different walks of life seemingly unified to a better extent. Yes I know there are things that are political - I don't think this is one of them as within the year of 2009 this man from Chicago seem to touch so many people within the USA as well as in other lands. I would pick this time within world affairs as being one that truly was the best of the best within as we come to a close within the year of 2009. For me ironically January 20th was the milestone of this year to me within the history within the world on the year of 2009.
I thought I would place a few quotes by the man as there is no doubt that we have never seen the likes of the speeches that he has given. Some of my favorite quotes by President Obama:
“Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.”
“We can no longer afford indifference to suffering outside our borders; nor can we consume the world's resources without regard to effect. For the world has changed, and we must change with it.”
“If you're walking down the right path and you're willing to keep walking, eventually you'll make progress.”
“We will not apologize for our way of life, nor will we waver in its defense, and for those who seek to advance their aims by inducing terror and slaughtering innocents, we say to you now that our spirit is stronger and cannot be broken; you cannot outlast us, and we will defeat you.”
“For we know that our patchwork heritage is strength, not a weakness. We are a nation of Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus and non believers. We are shaped by every language and culture, drawn from every end of this Earth; and because we have tasted the bitter swill of civil war and segregation, and emerged from that dark chapter stronger and more united, we cannot help but believe that the old hatreds shall someday pass; that the lines of tribe shall soon dissolve; that as the world grows smaller, our common humanity shall reveal itself; and that America must play its role in ushering in a new era of peace.”
“Our challenges may be new. The instruments with which we meet them may be new. But those values upon which our success depends hard work and honesty, courage and fair play, tolerance and curiosity, loyalty and patriotism these things are old. These things are true. They have been the quiet force of progress throughout our history. What is demanded then is a return to these truths.”
“I understand why war is not popular, but I also know this: The belief that peace is desirable is rarely enough to achieve it. Peace requires responsibility. Peace entails sacrifice. That's why NATO continues to be indispensable. That's why we must strengthen U.N. and regional peacekeeping, and not leave the task to a few countries.”
“Responsibility and leadership in the 21st century demand more. In an era when our destiny is shared, power is no longer a zero sum game. No one nation can or should try to dominate another nation. No world order that elevates one nation or group of people over another will succeed. No balance of power among nations will hold.”
“With hope and virtue, let us brave once more the icy currents, and endure what storms may come. Let it be said by our children's children that when we were tested we refused to let this journey end, that we did not turn back nor did we falter; and with eyes fixed on the horizon and God's grace upon us, we carried forth that great gift of freedom and delivered it safely to future generations.”
“I don't oppose all wars. What I am opposed to is a dumb war. What I am opposed to is a rash war.”
“There's not a liberal America and a conservative America; there's the United States of America.” My favorite, which was prior 2009 at the Democratic Convention.
I really feel that we are watching the makings of a great administration and a period in history that will be talked about for many years to come.

***Thanks for this post Jack ... certainly these thoughts will forever etched in my memory as to how the President of the US of America is working hard yet misunderstood by so many ... even his own people. May we all be Blessed always by God's love and eventually live in a harmonious environment where love and peace is the order of the day.
... well said by may fave Pres ... voted for him last election ... well, in my mind! smiles*
I just pray the people of America will soon realized how their hard working Pres's doing to attain that much coveted "PEACE".
peace and love from here ... hugs tight.

Mike I feel that this is one man that truly has not waiver and I really do think so, I feel that in comparison to any leader that we know in
ReplyDeletethis day and age he has truly come to be one that is highly regarded due to the merits his speeches his tenacity combined with intelligence
that far surpasses one of his age.
Maritess, there are so many people from outside of the United States that truly believe in this man.
ReplyDeleteWhen was the last time we ever saw this in the last century? I think that says much.
Very well said Jack.
ReplyDeleteI thought I would pull up the link from my own writing during that very day in which was on January 20th...

For myself GG within the time on blogging there have been a few favorite times and this within the history of this year was truly one that was probably one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteNo person can do everything all at one time and I don't look at this by way of a party but more of one of my favorite times, there are some others but this was a day in
history for myself that I will never forget.
agreed there Jack
ReplyDeleteIt does Mike and time will indicated this I do believe.
ReplyDeleteHe gives us all hope for a better world.
ReplyDeleteHope as well as the ability to render countries together.
ReplyDeleteHope for the future is good and respect goes a long way. Regardless of ones political persuasion & coming together on (the things we do have in common.) We all want a bright future for the young and comfort and care for the aged, education, safety..to name just a few of many. He has a heavy burden of responsibility on his shoulders..that is certain
ReplyDeleteAny leader does but the manner that he handles it - it's entirely very different to the norm of what we have seen Cheryl....
ReplyDeleteOne has to look beyond the words after a year has passed. The popularity of this administration is decreasing rapidly. One has just to read the daily editorials to keep abreast of the sentiment now being expressed here.
ReplyDeleteI will keep my mouth shut, as not enough time has passed to see any fruits of his leadership. So far, we are extremely in debt and many people have lost jobs, the housing market is flopped ..........so.....we have to see how he can pull us out of this mess....which I know is not his, it came from the prior administration....yet still....he is adding to it!
ReplyDeleteMost definitely adding to it with no improvement in sight. Can only blame the former administration for so long. One year in, it's his administration now.
ReplyDeleteHe has faced tremendous challenges since taking office, including arguably the worst economy since the Great Depression and two ongoing wars. Obama is actively trying to address these issues while also tackling some longer-term issues like healthcare and climate change. Over the course of the year, his approval ratings have fallen, perhaps due to lack of obvious progress on many of these fronts, but also perhaps because of the public's apparent reluctance so far to embrace the healthcare reform effort. Right now he is at his all time low. As within December he went to a rating of 41 percent in confidence. However this was more on the man. Not on the politics Susan.
ReplyDeleteSue I think that after the last two terms and all that came with it the onus is not on this leadership as you mentioned I really don't think within parties but yes America flopped due to the last administration and how the banking system was left, and then now there have been things that have been done economically to rebuild it but it will not come over night. He is adding to it - but not by in a corrupt manner that was done for 8 years prior to his presidency. I am certain that even he was amazed when briefing took place of what all he had to deal with.
ReplyDeleteI guess this was taken more on the political side but I do know how it's been going within the great USA. And it's one that will probably take two terms for any leader to get at least 65% of the economy back to the placement of where it was before 2001.
I am not sure if there is a blame to be made, I think more so there is a direction to continue with and move forward with it and realize that we are within time that are global. Forward we go rather than thinking of Enron, and all that the past administration went. I can't say that George Bush was my favorite that came to be more corrupt by a long run than Richard Nixon. Yet there are many great things that can happen and shall. But it's going to take a change of the landscape of United States in order to obtain it. Not entirely but to some extent.
ReplyDeleteAmericans are waiting to see how this present administration will govern its people. So far, the leadership has not inspired confidence. Those with an eye on Washington seem to agree, as journalists report. Those writers have their fingers on the pulse of our government. It's not about blame. It's not about past administrations. It's all about the present now.
ReplyDeletePerhaps the people have to be self inspired Susan. Remember John F. Kennedy, "ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country". During the Christmas season I had spoken to a few good friends one of which was a professor in Syracuse, he was asking what the system is like up here. I think most writers don't have the pulse. I think most literally write within their own bias...
ReplyDelete... most of the time ... and we should all be reminded, ~ they are talking as always about how they feel ... so that's it. :)
ReplyDeleteI don't think enough time has past yet for me to make a decision. He has a rough road still ahead of him and I just have to keep the faith.
ReplyDeleteSame here Kelly...

(It sure is his mess now...he can't blame the stimulus on the former administration, nor the failed cash for clunkers program, nor the new health care which will be yet another flop.)

(Actually Suzy, that's the problem, people are keeping their mouths shut and not as you wrote, there's no fruits of his leadership...and a year has passed. We're in extreme debt due to HIS administration and it's only getting worse. Especially when he spends money that isn't there! He hasn't done beans to get people jobs. And the new Cap & Trade bill will KILL the dying housing market. It's only going to get worse with him in office and his staff of no-gooders.)
Sorry Jack, I don't see him as a leader at all. And definitely not worthy of a Nobel Peace prize as he's sending more and more troops off to war. Did you know Jack that in 1971, Congress was trying to give former President Harry Truman a Congressional Medal of Honor and he REFUSED it saying he did nothing to deserve it and there were no doubt others who were deserving of it. Now, that's what Obama should have done with the Peace Prize. The least he could have done was say he'd accept it for the men and women in Uniform or say he'd accept it in honor of the US, but NO...he took all the credit, he has NO class.
Jack, we'll never see eye to eye on Obama. He's got a high unemployment rate, he's created the largest debt in the country's history and he's got the lowest approval rating of any president at this time of his presidency. It all makes sense why.
He's a good speaker, I'll give him that, but anyone can read from a teleprompter. He's no good, and neither is his background and everyone knows, you are who you hang out with and your background and past shows where you're heading in life. Funny how people who voted for him wouldn't dream of allowing their children to befriend a known terrrorist who tried to bomb the pentagon and those same people wouldn't allow their children to hang out with a person who goes to a "church" (and I use that word loosely) where the preacher uses the words, "God Damn America." Just doesn't make sense.
I'd like to have faith in him, but I'll keep my faith in God instead of the man made Messiah. God won't disappoint me.
