~ How Santa is Tracked ~ :)

NORAD uses four high tech systems to track Santa are radar, satellites, "Santa Cams" and fighter jets.Tracking Santa starts with the NORAD radar system called the North Warning System. This powerful radar system consists of 47 installations strung across the northern border of North America. On Christmas Eve, NORAD monitors the radar systems continuously for indications that Santa Claus has left the North Pole.

The moment that radar indicates Santa has lifted off, a second detection system is then initiated. Satellites positioned in geo-synchronous orbit at 22,300 miles from the Earth’s surface are equipped with infrared sensors, which enable them to detect heat. Amazingly, Rudolph's bright red nose gives off an infrared signature, which allow our satellites to detect Rudolph and Santa.

The third tracking system is the Santa Cam network. We began using it in 1998, which is the year we put our Santa Tracking program on the internet. Santa Cams are ultra-cool, high-tech, high-speed digital cameras that are pre-positioned at many locations around the world. NORAD only uses these cameras once a year on Christmas Eve. The cameras capture images and videos of Santa and his reindeer as they make their journey around the world.

The fourth system is made up of fighter jets. Canadian NORAD fighter pilots flying the CF-18 intercept and welcome Santa to North America. In the United States, American NORAD fighter pilots in either the F-15 or the F-16 get the thrill of flying alongside Santa and his famous reindeer: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen and, of course, Rudolph.

  4. Well lets just say that Santa now has a new generation of reindeer but they go by the same names, plus he has a much faster sled as it's a little more high tech, I think he made that change in the year 2000. :) And of course there is the honorable "Sir Rudolph" as the queen did award him a merit of honour. :)

  5. Oh so there's truth in it! Speechless ... maybe i should wait for him and make my one wish ... am not kidding ...

well ... maybe i saw him last night. Yeah ... whatever age we are in, i believe there will always be a child in us. And that's what makes life worthliving for Jack ... the smiles ... the laughs, the simple things that we sometimes overlooked :)

  7. I have heard that "Mrs. Clause has been allowed just for one night to give allowance to not only give a brew of carrots to the entire pack but something else as well. It helps them do this trip so fast yeah...:)

  8. Yeah after the extra shot that Rudolf and the others get they are smiling and they are faster than an F- 18. :). Mrs. Clause just goes back to her computer and watches Utubes. We won't go there. :)

  16. My father thought it was great fun to track Santa on the internet. Every year when they came over Christmas eve, the first thing he would ask was if I had Santa up or not, meaning on the computer. Mom and I will be tracking Santa again this year.

  17. And this is what good old Santa takes pleasure in and believe it or not he is downloading all the places by way of Norad and shall arrive when everyone is asleep. Most don't realize that Santa actually takes the cookies out and gives them to the "gang" but believe it or not right this very moment the elves are truly ahead of things and the Rudolf and his gang are doing there training as we speak. Mind you there is much that does go into this, but I am sure naughty or nice, good old Saint Nick usually just gives. :)

  19. Well when Santa was a boy he never knew either till his father told him and then he realized what he was to do for each and every year at this time. But then he married and boy I will tell you Mrs certainly didn't - but that's another story within itself. :)

  21. GG we think we will track him but he starts and the North Pole and then by way of NORAD, he either goes one direction or the other and it's really something that - well we don't know what or when it will happen even on a computer as it's so encrypted. :) Yet he does come...there was a time that he was not too sure if he would go the route of Russia first or within the America's first, but we never know. :)

  22. He tries his best and speaking of stockings well this guy now where a thermal like underwear that come from Nasa believe it or not. :)

  23. With the crazy winter weather the world has I would believe it.

  24. But there is no stopping him as they get through the worst of the worst of storms as there is an ensemble of jets that the pilots have been hand picked each and every year to ensure his safety and guide him within his course. Mind you Santa is a tad crazed after all is done. But yet there is still the gift for Mrs. Clause. And if he is naught and not nice - he is left sleeping in in his sleigh not the couch!

  25. Serves him right if he forgets the woman willing to put up with his crazy job : )

  26. Up there, there was not many men in that region from which to choose from - so she said why not, there was a time that she actually considered moving to Florida but she puts up with it. Especially during his off time. But I am sure after all these years he has probably has order something from Macy's for her. She deserves it.

  33. So true Silvia and I wish you the very same and good will to all of mankind. This was a stir with some fun and wit of old Saint Nick :)

A Merry One to you as well.

  34. That's putting it mildly. I imagine all those jets have to keep some distance lest they spook the reindeer.

  35. It's a very delicate maneuver Doug to say the least, Rudolf has come to find it natural, I think the pilots perhaps have more trouble :)
