The newly remastered tunes from the Fab Four are on the market and selling like hotcakes.
The most influential band of the 20th century continues on through their timeless music that helped define the baby boom generation. It’s cool to think we’re talking about the 60’s here. Most radio stations today don’t play many songs from that era. The Beatles went their separate ways in 1970. Their last album, Let It Be, was released in May of that year.
Speaking of Beatles albums, my brother whom is a large collector of the Beatles still has their second one. With the Beatles, released in Europe on November 22nd, 1963. It’s on vinyl, he found the original album, which was from Germany so the language on the cover is German. You might be thinking how was it released in 1963 when we didn’t hear or see the Beatles until 1964?
The band conquered Great Britain and the continent before coming to conquer the colonies. Their first LP, Please Please Me, was out in March of ’63 and songs like Please Please Me, Love Me Do, and I Saw Her Standing
There topped the overseas charts many months before the lads from Liverpool appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show in February ’64 and drove North American teenagers into a frenzy.
From Country fans to lovers of Jazz, I can’t think of anyone I’ve met who doesn’t like, or at least appreciate some or all of the tunes that came from the hearts and minds of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr.
I have never been a big Beatles fan, but their music has changed all of us in one way or another!
ReplyDeleteHi Terri, I was never a big fan, my brother was right from the start when he was a child, and as time went on I had no choice but to listen to them. But as time went on I came to really admire their lyrics and all that they have really done and there is a new release of so many things. In so many ways there music did change the world and at the same time they have surpassed the test of time of any band to this very day.
ReplyDeleteAs time went on I did really come to enjoy their music. The lyrics have such meaning.
I sure do remember them and my son had a collection of Beatles songs even though they were before his time.
ReplyDeleteI remember my grandmother (Dad's side) adored them. It was so funny . I thought she was old but sadly she passed away when she was only 59. My Grandma on Mom's side is 96. But it sure brings back memories ..we watched the Beatles with Grandma ..:o)
Going back when I was young (smile)....we used to take car trips from the East coast to the west every two years. This was a two day trip and all that was played on the eight track within the car at that time was my brother Beatles and we all sang and sang. I think it was half of what made the trip so enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteMy brother to this day continues with over 2,000 albums and in one room within his house he has it all dedicated to primarily the Beatles. We live in different cities but every time I see something new with regard to the Beatles I know that he is after it or is listening or watching it :)
Wow! Extrordinary devotion indeed, but I'm sure your brother is one of many, Jack . And what great memories. The music more so than the 8-Trac technology ;-)
ReplyDeleteI don't this music will ever stop inspiring and being reinvented for the new mediums ahead of us. I came to most of their mature music after The Beatles had broken up (they had a cartoon series in America for awhile where I first saw them as a kid in the 60's. I was surprised the real Beatles didn't talk like they did in the cartoons.) As a teenager, it was a musical revelation to collect their albums and listen to each phase of their creativity. And, as you say, you do not have to be a strict devotee of R&B or rock to love at least some of their work.
Doug,
ReplyDeleteI don't either and no there is one gent on here by the name of Steve and I have never new anyone that has had a blog that has been dedicated to the Fab Four as this chap. And collectors yes there are so many out there but you know when you listen to any of the song or just even look at the lyrics, for four young lads from England they really wrote and made this some of this music so quickly. The lyrics especially resonate so many things - perhaps both John and Paul had a very good grasp on things at that time as they were only within their young 20's.
When I was a kid I used to watch that cartoon series in which you speak of, I think it started with the song "Chains my baby's got me locked up in chains". But that all said, this year alone there has been so many new things with regards to the Beatles, Paul's tour, A virtual Beatles for the gameboy or gamesomething machines, yet as I mentioned very few radio stations other than dedicated/syndicated satellite radio do not feature the Beatles, but yeah it's cool to hear the songs as they applied yesterday and they still seem to apply today.
The big documentary they had a few years ago with George and the two survivors was great.
ReplyDeleteYeah except Ringo never really liked Paul and never has ironic isn't it?
ReplyDeleteThey certainly continue to be quite the phenomena!
ReplyDeleteI think they are Arielle...
