Coffee Talk ....

I normally shy away from using e-mails that make the rounds but this one is good as it points out how much things have changed in 50 years.

Take these high school scenarios for example: Scenario 1: Billy goes quail hunting early in the morning and then pulls into the school parking lot with his shotgun in his truck’s gun rack. 1959….vice-principal comes over, looks at Bill’s shotgun, goes over to his car to get his shotgun to show Bill. 2009….School goes into lock down, police called, Bill hauled off to jail and never sees his truck or gun again. Counselors called in for traumatized students and teachers. Scenario 2: Johnny and Mark get into a fistfight after school. 1959…crowd gathers, Mark wins, Johnny and Mark shake hands and walk away buddies. 2009…..Police called and SWAT Team arrives. They arrest both Johnny and Mark who are both charged with assault and both expelled even though Johnny started it. Scenario 3: Billy breaks a window in the neighbour’s car and his dad gives him a spanking. 1959….Billy is more careful next time, grows up normal, goes to college and becomes a successful businessman. 2009….Billy’s dad is arrested for child abuse. Billy is removed to foster care and joins a gang. Scenario 4: Johnny falls while running during recess and scrapes his knee. He is found crying by his teacher, Mary. Mary hugs him to comfort him. 1959…in a short time Johnny feels better and goes on playing. 2009…..Mary is accused of being a sexual predator and loses her job.

How times have changed.

  1. No kidding...the pendulum has swung waaaay too far the other way, hasn't it? I blame it all on the ability of lawyers to advertise. (LOL)

  5. Dude. You hit it right on the head. It has gotten so f****** ridiculous it almost makes me want to vomit. I absolutely loved this blog. The fact is that we overcomplicate SOOO MUCH today that we dont even have the brains left to realize we are our own worst enemy. Will we ever learn??????????

  6. I will be picky here....in #2 ....I don't think they ever shook hands and it was "all over" even in the "olden days"....there has to be some teaching and verbalizing that goes along with it or the stronger one will just move on to another victim.....but the rest are sounding true....

I know my husband and I and our kids when we were on the farm would not even notice if a rifle were in the gun rack behind our heads when we dropped of kids for school or took them to town to get groceries after school. Yikes .... it would startle me now to see a gun in a rack behind someones' head.... but it was so normal at one time...

  8. All you have to do is turn on the television and what's next?

  9. Yeah we have taken liberal to different and new heights - yet I aspire for the old ways - but I am not much for all of what goes on as we all can see on the television or radio these days...

  10. Back then but now - things are different not completely but it's just a take on how things seemingly are, but I look at the better things in life - and I remember when there was a time that some people left the house door open. Now would we do that, hmmm.

  11. You know I think that things may go to a point and then make a full circle around. Then again I might be getting old!

  12. Don't get me wrong there are great things but there are areas in which society has changed, perhaps there is more of a choice as to what we do whereas before you did not have to be as concerned. Freedom does shine, but within it all I ponder on some of this at times.

  14. Hi Danni, yes I think they change and we balance it out for ourselves.
By no means do I feel that within this era is it something that is entirely something so redundant.
But I think that we live within very different time right now however with that all said you flow with it
and one does as they desire within life etc. (you know what I mean)..:)
