Nearing the End of Meds

Well thank god I this is my second last day of being on these meds of Amoxicillin and Prednisone if that is how they are spelled. And they have done a great job. I am moving away from my collaborative regarding MJ, but in learning of how he passed is really something I think that many people should take into consideration.

There are very strict laws with medications here in Canada. Narcotics of any nature are monitored closely and it does not matter whom you are or your economical status. So the entire country is computerized.

I guess what I am trying to say is America's medical system is not computerized right across the nation as of yet. And it seems from what I have read that MJ did not pass away for any other reason than having too many narcotics in his body on that one day - not an overdose but what will happen when there is too much of one or in this case a few medical narcotics at probably high doses in his blood stream.

Apparently he had pain - but there are a varied real of different pains the body will have - neuropathic pain, or addiction pain. And then there is pain outright for good reasons from an injury or from things of the likes of arthritis etc.

However in this case, I think that double doctoring was the case and it's a pity that he stopped breathing only due to too many substances within his system. My thoughts are where was at least one member of his family and secondly where is an accountable medical system whereby if class 1 2 and 3 Narcotics are in a federal medical data base that monitors and if there questions of amounts of medications then notifications are sent out to the doctor(s).

I think that his current doctor actually was hired so that he was monitored as well so that he would get the required insurance for this upcoming tour he had. It's a pity that much like Elvis he died due to pills. And I am not anti pills. However I am very displeased with those doctors that obviously went past the two week or conservative method of dealing with what he found as pain. As it's not all fixed within a narcotic. And there are more people in Canada and the USA - I am not sure of other countries that are addicted to pills. There is a difference between addiction and the need to be on something but my point is - it should be monitored.

He was an addict. But a medical addict only becomes one by way of that first time in which a doctor prescribes out medications with repeats - which is so rarely done.

Demerol and Oxycontin and perhaps more. I would dare to say that he probably built up such a tolerance and then he over did it or he may have had a strenuous day - but damn those doctors that just wrote "scripts". And money can buy many things - as well money can be something that enables something that leads to a music icon that may have been much different if not on all of these medications. Meaning narcotic medication.

I know America will not have the same system of that Canada has but I do hope that computers an across the entire country monitoring system does come into play during President Obama's term.

Please do note that some here probably or may be on something - pills are not bad when taken as advised and from a good doctor. I recall when I was living in New York and my GP there was in Manhattan and he had a huge place going on and within a month he had me hooked up to an heart tester - I forget the name of the machine. He said that I had a problem with my heart as it missed a beat now and then. And he prescribed a medication for it called Delicor if I recall.

I got on the phone with my GP in Canada and he told me to have asked for this test to be sent to him and it was never sent - go figure. When I arrived back in Canada 8 years ago, I had no heart problems.

Money speaks high but in this case an Icon did not have to go down during this day and age.

  1. Too many meds, you are absolutely right. Pills and alcohol have contributed to many, many, deaths. Especially of famous people. Hank Williams, Janis Joplin, Elvis, the list goes on and on, and on ......

  4. Amoxcillin and Predisone do fix things - but are not narcotics :)

  5. This a discussion that has no end-comming from the medic field I have my own ideas-but narcotics are like guns those who really want them have very little problem there here everywhere!

  6. Hiedi there is no ideal situation but this is where certainly one like MJ could have bought or got from some other country - but within especially the entertainment area I am sure there are el cheapo doctors that will do anything for a buck. Yet they are held accountable IF there is a tracking system that is put into place. So it really stems to the doctors if you know what I mean.
He could have illegally bought them - but he didnt.

And there is a place for these medications they are there for a reason but to be used and PERSCRIBED REASONABLLY and with a modern day accountability system not a system that is the same as say 1960.

  7. I agree with you Jack that as long as America doesn't have a nationwide system to track narcotics, for that matter any prescription medication being dispensed, it opens the door for these kinds of things to happen. When one doctor prescribes something and then another prescribes either the same thing or something different and the patient takes them, even under the advise of a medical doctor unless one doctor knows what another has given or prescribed and the patient is up front about it, the patient can die as a result. When a patient thinking that he is following his doctors orders and doesn't understand chemical reactions in the body, with other medications, foods, drinks, etc, then it can also become lethal. It is sad to see that once again this has happened....

  8. If you only knew how easy these drugs are to get and somethng for every pocket book-to bad for him I personally think he had some weird death wish he wanted to be like Elvis his idol.
I understand what you are saying but now there will be a terrible crack down on narcotics so people who really need them legit will be monitored even more closely and believe you me in todays world it is not easy being a good doc where paon therapy is concerned-

  9. Yes but Elvis lived during a time in which there was no monitoring system and he literally did several things aside of just narcotics - I don't think that MJ had a death wish but I do think he probably was overwhelmed yet rehearsing for a up and coming tour. Elvis just completely stopped. But I do know what you mean.

  10. It's not a blemish on the USA in any way, but Obama from what I see is and planned to have a system of this nature put into place - lets hope it comes to be.

  11. There is so much about the US healthcare system that needs revision!!! Hopefully we will see positive changes. Truthfully getting multiple perscriptions isn't difficult---suspect I could do so with my MD and Cardiologist---American doctors basically just push pills. That's about it. If you aren't managing your own health and intent on using medications correctly--the consequences can be lethal!

Sad to see MJ suffer the same sort of addiction and fate that Elvis did. Saw a quote from Lisa Presley yesterday (in a graphic on some coverage) that indicated that was part of why she left Michael. She felt he was headed straight into that abyss and she couldn't bear to be near it again.

  12. Narcotics are monitord by the Feds and believe you me they are monitored very very well-

  13. Yeah there are more deaths caused by the medical practice and here as well within Canada it's entirely perfect. Yet I can stand to be corrected but Obama's plans are to have a monitoring system that for every script that is given it all goes into a computer and is data based - then the pharmacy as well as the medical professional is at question and has the right to comply.

Medications do have a purpose but within the right hands Susan. My question is why did everyone enable him? As this could have been caught in several different ways, but obviously no one did.

  14. I could be wrong Heidi but I don't think right now the US has a tracking system in place.

  15. Oh yes, our medications are certainly monitored here, I went through hell just trying to refill some mild pain pills awhile back. But, once you have those pills then it's your responsibility to make sure you are taking them correctly. One slip up can cause death, especially if you have other meds you are on that can interact or alcohol. It seems though that celebs tend to get pills and such more easily because of their status, their money and icon status keeps them from being jumped on by the law sometimes. Say you're a big star's doc and you are making TONS of money off the guy and he says he's in sooo much pain and needs more pills. As his doc what do you do? Take the chance because you don't think it'll kill him..or say no and lose your job? Some docs make that first choice and it ends up in disaster.

  16. I will add that there are so many ways to get narcotics in this country, it seems almost impossible for law enforcement to keep up. It would probably mean closing our borders for such a thing to work.

  17. tablets and over pescribed ones can kill , we shall see what they say when all the tests are proven , glad that you yourself are feeling much better now , take care Rosie

  18. Danni my mistake big time, but I don't think it's done the same as here - but I could be very wrong as I am basing things from living in New York. My mistake!
Most all companies that have some bearing will do a screening now and then - but this is a mistake here on my part my apologies.

  19. More die from prescribed medications than by way of street drugs - go figure!

  20. I just arrived home and I will say I have knee pain from injuries but due to probably stress I came down with a viral infection Rosie, and now I am eating right and tending to things the one thing I hope that was an eye opener is to have implants in my knees again. It's like a small cushion that goes in as I damaged both as believe it or not - I ran too much and genetically I guess I was not a horse :). Seriously, I thank you dear. I do. With pain, I think past it. I will explain that later on. But right now after so much time lost in the week before last, I am out with my camera and I walk at least a mile or two each day. I could get a pill for the pain, but I choose a different path. ~ Choices ~

  21. I've read that recently as well. Alarming. I thin kyour conclusions about MJ's "double doctoring" are likely correct. What will happen when this all comes out should be a warning indeed for a generally over-medicated society.

  22. Glad to hear you are getting better and that the medication run is almost complete !

  23. Doug I think that many doctors right now are taking stock of what they prescribe. The second largest prescribe medication in Canada and the US is Xanax go figure. I could be wrong but that was something a friend of mine that practices medicine told me. I found it to be something else. And I think that with all that has happened it has sent waves across with the medical field.

We are an over medicated society as well how did our grand parents survive? Maybe taking a shot of sherry or whiskey after a day's work was the answer in comparison to being hooked on legal medications.

  24. LOL - well you know this is my last day and if this does come back I think I am going in and getting some "medical marijuana". :)

Yeah it's all good and that is that. A great one too you Annette.
