hoping my family and friends remain healthy, sometimes when I feel selfish I hope I get through the day without any back spasms and be pain free for a while. I don't hope for world peace,or the end of hunger, or honest politicians, or putting a stop to child abuse because I know as we all do these are lost causes.
Ok, so you've defined hope, even as far as using the Oxford English Dictionary...But, how do you really feel? Is there hope that you might expound on your many definitions of hope? I hope so.
Hoping you have a wonderful Sunday.
Hopefully yours,

PS: All this Hope-mongering has made me hungry! What's for breakfast?
I happen to disagree with your statement. Where there is life there is hope. We can hope that our (US) government can get off it's backside and take care of our domestic problems. I hope they realize that you can't control the world until and unless they realize that they need to take care of their own first.
There is an old saying that illustrates this: Hope springs eternal. I sincerely hope that some of my hope will be contagious and you catch it.
Jack, I thank you for posing this question. It makes one look inside oneself and determine whether or not there is anything for which hope is worthy. I find the worthiness of hope in all parts and aspects of my life. Even when things seem to be going very wrong, I often feel hopeful that things can and will turn around.
And yes, it's true, I don't always feel hopeful in the throes of a dilemma. Often, however, after the initial crisis has settled, hope returns and I begin to be able to formulate a solution. So, hope has helped me to calm down and think through a situation where previously I had felt hopeless, for example, when my husband recently had a massive heart attack, followed by many heart attacks and finally bypass surgery. At first, to me, everything felt hopeless. Until I was able to calm down a bit and get some perspective I felt like I was floating in an ocean , surrounded by sharks. But after the initial shock of the situation, I did allow for hope he would recover, which he is. In a couple more weeks, he will be healthier than he has been in the past 20 years. Always hopeful.
Mickey this is understandable and that of which you don't hope is within your prerogative of choices within possibilities. Some things are lost causes and then there are some things which are worthy of pursuit - I can certainly understand that. As I hope tomorrow I do have my car done. :)
