This was rather short as it was when I had just arrived into the lecture hall and there were many ideals of which she spoke. Within the time, span that I had there were a few things that she was talking about within her life experiences. Although I was not able to catch it, all there was one term she spoke about it was within the ideals of ranks of people within life. It seemed to stick with me as she said that she never believed that anyone within her experience had what we call a rank. I believe her main message was within doing what she had done she believed that all people are equal.
So glad you were able to catch some of her talk.
ReplyDeleteWasn’t planned but was a nice surprise.
ReplyDeleteI love Buffy St.Marie's music and voice. So, it is nice to hear what she has to say as well.
ReplyDelete:)
Wish I could hear more of her, she seems to be a kindered soul.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was incredible from Elvis to so many and Erika I never would have thought yesterday I would see all these people outside of the lecture room.
ReplyDeleteI really was heading to the library and then I inquired with the person which arranged it and it was all too interesting. Yesterday this was amazing as she not
here to speak on her music and her experiences. She is on a tour right now across parts of Canada and United States. By Monday there may be the written
dialogue of which she spoke from Saturday. I had always thought she was from America and here she was from the Quappelle Valley. I thought she was from
United States - yet it was unexpected as one of the organizers told me whom it was when I inquired as it was so obvious that something was happening.
This means you wish for me to place a few on :) Maritess I really don't know her work all I know is that she was sort of part of the Greenwich Village group of artists within the 60's.
ReplyDeleteThe Universal Soldier
He's five feet two and he's six feet four
He fights with missiles and with spears
He's all of 31 and he's only 17
He's been a soldier for a thousand years
He's a Catholic, a Hindu, an atheist, a Jain,
a Buddhist and a Baptist and a Jew
and he knows he shouldn't kill
and he knows he always will
kill you for me my friend and me for you
And he's fighting for Canada,
he's fighting for France,
he's fighting for the USA,
and he's fighting for the Russians
and he's fighting for Japan,
and he thinks we'll put an end to war this way
And he's fighting for Democracy
and fighting for the Reds
He says it's for the peace of all
He's the one who must decide
who's to live and who's to die
and he never sees the writing on the walls
But without him how would Hitler have
condemned him at Dachau
Without him Caesar would have stood alone
He's the one who gives his body
as a weapon to a war
and without him all this killing can't go on
He's the universal soldier and he
really is to blame
His orders come from far away no more
They come from him, and you, and me
and brothers can't you see
this is not the way we put an end to war.
she sings interesting songs..lovely voice and a serious person:)
ReplyDeleteVery thought provoking I see her as one that was harsh as well as serious within her music.
ReplyDeleteMind you she did it as she desired.
it is reflective of her conscience---a gift that was given her by her family and her history---it is strange how so many divide by race/social status/possessions/education---in the darkness of truth--when we are not confused by the illusions of the light---we understand
ReplyDeleteIn this song she was trying to get that peace we are all trying to achieved. A typical struggles during those times, the 60's. The 'Peace and Love' things. A silent struggle put into words by way of music. Great.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly was. Some of these artist especially her had an impact. Not all can understand as there is divide within societies. Yet I never thought that
ReplyDeleteone from the Quappalle Valley would make such an impact in Canada, United States, Australia, and Latin America.
