A Speech that was Short

Yet it had a promise announced as stated and planned.

There will always be division within certain areas. I truly have always believed within the freedom of speech. Everyone has that manner in which they can write what they feel but at the same time with consideration to some extent with others. When I arrived home, the television was on as I usually have it going and I al thought this address by President Obama was short, I remember when he first went into office and I found it to be a tremendous time of hope. We are within an era within history where there is that need of hope. Hope goes a long ways and Obama, I never thought would become President. Regardless of whom is within office, there is much that a leader has to do and I literally was inspired by him for two years before he came into office. I found what what he spoke of brought back a dream that many were in need of. Certainly, I think that he has fallen within the polls and at times I feel it's pity when a man that has good intentions as well as his wife whom really does have an influence on him I feel that he is a very symbolic figure. Obviously, I am up here in Canada, but I believe within the American dream. I believe that we all have our own areas that we love to write on and while eating supper to see this speech several things did come to mind. However, I thought three times before I even considered to write anything pertaining to his address but if we step back and look at where things are within our own societies we do want the best to take place. We do wish for the good things. Perhaps the American dream is awakening while there is so many that are angry with how the economy is. But there are good things that are happening and I do enjoy the good news. One leader can't change the world however President Obama I do think has inspired more people outside of the United States right now. I am not sure why that is but America is a country that has influenced the world, and along with that within all good things it takes time for things to change. We all have our own lives, we all try to do the best of things.

For myself I feel that Obama is a man that has awakened the spirit of many. I don't know any leader right now within the globe that compares to what this man represents. The words of hope, change - we all know all that he had spoken and many felt that he wavered on his promise.  No person is perfect not even a leader. So often they are loved and hated but that goes with the territory. However the message that he is bring troops back, I feel it's a good step.

I myself feel this was a very good day and there is the reality that there is still much that he needs to do but again there is not one perfect person that can fix all things within a fast time. But I believe he is trying and doing the best that one can. However what a leader decides does effect and impact our society. But as mentioned earlier, there could be any other leader within the oval office and he or she would have the very same things from which to tend with. I am not adamant with what I believe in, I just enjoy reading and writing on certain things that do effect people at large. And that being said I never wish to push nor sway others beliefs, I just enjoy to write my own thoughts on a person whom seem to me to be one with great merit. That's pretty much it and nothing more. So this too is fun, as it's interesting yet something that does concern many, as well it does concern me as what happens within America influences the rest of the world. People most often are resistant to change, sometimes change is a good thing but there is much to take into consider before making decisions within these times. However that all said it's the first of September and the we all have our very needs and wants and sometimes I find that we tend to forget the merits of what another is doing and we judge them based on several factors. If we forget about the president and look at all the areas that need to be fixed - that illustrates all that is at hand.

Regardless welcome to the 1st day within September.

Inspiration

I had made a post of in which some had quoted what they all felt was that something that inspired them. What inspires me, is really hard to place a handle on. Inspiration is truly that beginning within the morning when I rise and the day lays ahead for me. It's really as simple as that. I love to just get up early within each morning and sip my coffee and just listen to those to the stillness. As well, I will go further to say that people inspire me, they do. I find that some people within my life online or otherwise have and are very inspirational. Just now I logged on and for the first time one person open up his blog and wrote a story which was something that had happened to him and I would have never know it within an entire time that I have been on here. Inspiration is many things to each of us but it's those things that are least expected yet simple are the most inspirational. So I would have to say my inspiration is all within the array of what comes about within the day. Hence Life.

When I posted this within my notes I had a few friends from on here that wrote what were inspirational to them and why not I wish to post what they felt was inspirational to them. As inspiration comes from something and to each their very own.  Here are a few post from some good friends that had the time to write within a sentence of two what inspired them as well:

  • Nature, People who do the right thing no matter what.
  • Music ... nature ... the very people i got connected each day of my life and the one. :)
  • I'm inspired by the wind in the trees and the sound of water falling
  • Sunny days. Moon filled skies. Quiet moments. The roar of the ocean. The song of a morning bird. A smile on my childs face. The laughter from a lover.
  • Beach, dance, nature, cats.................:)It changes with time or circumstances along the years.
  • I believe what has inspired me during the many creative adventures I have been on.. is a joy that seems to supercede the event... I feel something emerging from within... and by the time it hits my brain, I am already beginning the "joy" ride... It is another addiction, I suppose...to be able to "joy" ride ..and all it takes is a mood, a phrase, some random thought that is like a sparkler going off...and I never really know where it will end up.. after all.. I am just along for the ride.
  • kindness, people, children, laughter, music, joy, giggles, friendship, beauty, sounds, chocolate, surprises, charity, strength, faith, spirit, fortitude, compassion, nature, orange, smells, touch, passion, the smell of water, the feel of the sun on my skin, a great kiss, the people i love and the people that love me, the freshness of a new day and the end of a day well lived....pretty much, everything.
  • The spirit of love from one person to another...
    The kind regard of people and compassion for others...

    I am inspired by words, the sun, sea, beauty, not beautiful things, just beauty, even in its ugliest state. I am inspired by people, who go that extra mile.  Inspiration come in many shapes and forms, from one word, to a smile on the face.

What INSPIRES you?

This morning had the plumber over I thought there would be more than one and well the shower is all fixed. It was a little hard to understand him as he just came here from Serbia and as I watched what he was doing, he would keep saying, "I'm not how you say it in english". I kept just saying that it was all ok. So he it ends up it was a small little part and he suggested that I just run to a place here called J and H Plumbing and Heating, the part only cost $20.00 dollars! So that was a plus. By the time I arrived back he had cleaned up the entire bathroom all the facets, and then I gave him the part as it's a twenty year old piece, I was surprised that they still did carry it but they did so that was a plus. Mind you he asked me,"Is it always this cold here?". I told him that this was not typical and I asked him what the climate was like in Serbia and he utter passionately that, "it's not this cold this early". So all was done and then I asked him how much I owed him and he said no you decide. Well this is rather awkward as what does one do. Obviously the man is building up his own little business - so I gave him fifty dollars as it really was a simple task and then he left and said, "Now I have to go drive the bus". I guess what he meant was that on the side as well, he drives a school bus as this is the first day that the kids went back to school here. Kudos to him as he seems to be doing two jobs and not just one.

Thereafter I headed downtown and went to the bookstore as well as went to a music story which is called "Mother's Music". I am not sure if it's run my mom or not! But it was fun too look at the drums and all the equipment they have there. Then I arrived home and for some reason I have had this ongoing ache on my left side of my jaw. So I guess I will have to see the dentist at some time as I have never sucked on Hall's lozenges as much as the past two weeks. And then I am not sure about you but I literally have to shower everyday. So right before eating I had a nice hot shower and then just relaxed and enjoyed the warmth within the house. There is nothing like a shower I truly mean that. Not just to keep good hygiene but as well to just keep warm and then throw back on some sweats and enjoy the evening.

Yeah this is the last Monday within August. I still have high hopes that September shall warm up as it has before.

Ambitious Sensationalism

The effects of sensationalism are damaging the public and the integrity of journalism.
There is a clear dilemma for all good journalists. Although sensationalism sells, and we are within an era now where there is more sensationalism than previous as journalists are breaking the ethical values that their profession was founded on. A responsible journalist is less partisan, less attached, and more accurate. They value
the difference between opinion and the truth. If this defines a responsible journalist,
why is an irresponsible journalist irresponsible? Is it because they are more concerned with promoting themselves rather than the story? Have they sold out for the all mighty dollar? Is it the audience s fault because they expect less? Maybe journalism students are being taught in college to get the sensationalized story because it sells you will make it big. Whether labeled ethics, values, or morals, they are declining rapidly in the United States. What would make anyone believe that journalism is exempt from this infectious downfall in American society? Objectivity, although hardly perfect, seems to be the less of two evils. Winston Churchill once said that democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the other forms. The same can be said about objective journalism. As long as journalists are willing to work hard and be honest about its limitations, it will remain our least bad source of information.

It amazes me how sensationalism literally has such an impact on society and yet there
are good reporting and I feel that if one wishes to speak to and have the power to speak to the media at large facts coupled within unbiased reporting surpasses sensationalized certainly sells, but credibility is lost as one has to decipher between facts and fictions and what the reports ambitions are. In conclusion, it is evident that sensationalism has become deeply entrenched in the media, leaving the public paying a high price through their loss of credible sources of information.

In turn, journalists are also paying a high price by sacrificing their ethical standards and succumbing to the temptations of sensationalism for the sake of profit and or other reasons, which would include politics now. It’s a blatantly disregard to the very standards of objectivity and credibility.

It’s a no brainer to understand and see the difference between what the missions and ethics were with Walter Cronkite, Dan Rather in comparison to Jeff Beck, Bill O'Reilly.

Two words sums it all up:

 Ambitious Sensationalism

Glenn Beck kicked off his radio show by thanking the many attendees at Saturday's theme of,"Restoring Honor within America" in front of the Lincoln Memorial, give me a break. Does Larry King do the same thing - No. Beck is a DJ on a syndicated radio program. Do we really deem the likes of Howard Stern, or other radio host as really altering the thoughts of people? I don’t think so – this is where fiction and facts are being entirely mixed up and contrived by way of the new era of lobbyist as well as one that may be looking to run for office.

A Rebirth within New Orleans

If you recall five years ago, Hurricane Katrina pounded the Gulf Coast, the fragile recovery of New Orleans has become an abundant field of study a study is fine but we all know that this was something that literally took much too long with the response, the fatalities, the government within office, for a area within America to be in such a frenzy for more than one year really didn't say much for a due diligence. The storm caused nearly $81 billion dollars worth of damage within New Orleans and along the Mississippi coast. In New Orleans, 70 per cent of all occupied housing units were damaged by the hurricane. The number of people killed in the storm totaled 1,833 across Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi and Ohio. Most of the deaths occurred in Louisiana, with drowning being the major cause of death (40 per cent), followed by injury and trauma (25 per cent) and heart conditions (11 per cent), according to the Greater New Orleans Data Center. After Katrina an estimated 1.5 million people in Mississippi and Louisiana were displaced in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
In very slow response to housing after the hurricane, FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, made 120,000 trailers available to families in need. In 2007, there were about 45,000 families still living in FEMA trailers. As of June 2010, the number had dropped to 860 families. In March 2010, FEMA sold 100,000 of the trailers at auction. How there was so much wastage. FEMA noted the units were not to be used for long term housing and cautioned the trailers posed a potential health hazard because of high formaldehyde levels.

In 2009, New Orleans had an estimated 519,000 jobs about 16 per cent less than was counted before Hurricane Katrina. Reconstruction within the greater New Orleans Community has regained over half the population of the city's 73 neighborhoods, which is great. Optimism seemingly is high that the rebuilding process finally on track. Seventy per cent of New Orleans residents said they were confident that the rebuilding process is on track and two in three residents said their lives had returned to normal.Many thought that the city would never rebuild. I have never been to New Orleans but you would have thought that this would take only two years but yet it’s good that there finally is a rebirth within a very unique place where the food and culture of New Orleans is not comparable to any other state. Although there is still much to do and the recent oil spill has not helped matters, New Orleans has seemingly for the most part rallied together and truly rebuilt a tremendous place. However, I still maintain that there was so much waste of tax payers monies and the time that it took with the response was something that I have never seen. I almost felt that the government at the time was going to just sit on the fence...

Well actually for a good two years they did. But finally there is a rebirth due to several factors, one of which was truly done by citizens and alternative organizations. And New Orleans certainly can stand proud as they really rallied and rebuilt on there very own to a large extent. As far as FEMA goes, if you recall the original head of FEMA was best friends with George Bush. Thereafter he admitted that he had no qualifications to run the organization. Such a pity of what happened within the first few years, but now the city is alive and seemingly returning back to norm and then some.

George Clooney brought a lighthearted touch while accepting a special Emmy Award for a rather serious subject:

"It's important to remember how much good can get done, because we live in such strange times where bad behavior sucks up all the attention and press. And the people who really need the spotlight: the Haitians, the Sudanese, people in the Gulf Coast.. Pakistan, they can't get any.

I thought maybe there was a way to combine the two. I have offered to go to the south Sudan and have a wardrobe malfunction, but it was pointed out to me that I'm 49 and the consensus was that it would just be upsetting and kind of sad.
When the disaster happens, everybody wants to help, everybody in this room wants to help, everybody at home wants to help. The hard part is seven months later, five years later, when we're on to a new story. Honestly, we fail at that, most of the time. That's the facts. I fail at that. So here's hoping that some very bright person right here in the room or at home watching can help find a way to keep the spotlight burning on these heartbreaking situations that continue to be heartbreaking long after the cameras go away. That would be an impressive accomplishment.

As like Martin Luther King, Mahatma Gandhi was a man that did as well sacrifice for his own ideas I watched a movie on him last week and certainly he had many people much like other people that are activists in some sort but was he an idealists? Did he do what he had done in vain?

~ 47 Years Ago ~ Martin Luther King

I find that this writing that is regarded highly international what with regards to a man that had a vision. I don't think many come close to his convictions of what he did. As well, I think that he was a man that dared to challenge something within societies that did make an impact back in the 60's.

I think probably people will always make some judgment on people with regards to their color. Not all but some.

Some things change and some things never do. But as time goes by and during these days of recent and especially today marks something very different. Something very significant.

I find that this is one holiday that is celebrated by some and honored by others. What this man stood for was an effort and a basis that would resonate through out not only the United States but as well for many of countries. As well as many cultures. To all that hail from the United States of America this man was more about mankind and society that color. Look at how far we have come! And yet how far we need to go. If Dr. Martin L. King was alive today - I wonder what he would think with regards to everything that we have seen in the last ten years...

"Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand, signed the Emancipation Proclamation. This momentous decree came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of Negro slaves who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice. It came as a joyous daybreak to end the long night of captivity." But one hundred years later, we must face the tragic fact that a black person is still languishing in the corners of  society and finds himself an exile in his own land. So we have come here today to dramatize an appalling condition. In a sense we have come to our nation's capital to cash a check. When the architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every American was adhere too.

This note was a promise that all men would be guaranteed the unalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. It is obvious that America has defaulted on this promissory note insofar as citizens of color are concerned. America historically gave people of black color a bad check --- a cheque that came back marked "insufficient funds". We refuse to believe that the bank of justice is bankrupt. We refuse to believe that there are insufficient funds in the great vaults of opportunity of this nation. So we have come to cash this check --- a check that will give us upon demand the riches of freedom and the security of justice. We have also come to this hallowed spot to remind America of the fierce urgency of now. This is no time to engage in the luxury of cooling off or to take the tranquilizing drug of gradualism. Now is the time to make real the promises of democracy. Now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice. Now is the time to open the doors of opportunity to all of God's children. Now is the time to lift our nation from the quicksand’s of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood. It would be fatal for the nation to overlook the urgency of the moment and to underestimate the determination of the people of black decent. This sweltering summer of the Negro's legitimate discontent will not pass until there is an invigorating autumn of freedom and equality. Nineteen sixty-three is not an end, but a beginning. There is something that I must say to my people who stand on the warm threshold, which leads into the palace of justice. In the process of gaining our rightful place we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred. We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline. Again and again we must rise to the majestic heights of meeting physical force with soul force. The marvelous new militancy which has engulfed the Negro community must not lead us to a distrust of all white people, for many of our white brothers, as evidenced by their presence here today, have come to realize that their destiny is tied up with our destiny and their freedom is inextricably bound to our freedom. We cannot walk alone. And as we walk, we must make the pledge that we shall march ahead. We cannot turn back. There are those who are asking the devotees of civil rights, "When will you be satisfied?" We can never be satisfied as long as the Negro is the victim of unspeakable horrors of police brutality. We can never be satisfied as long as our bodies, heavy with the fatigue of travel, cannot gain lodging in the motels of the highways and the hotels of the cities. We cannot be satisfied as long as the Negro's basic mobility is from a smaller ghetto to a larger one. We can never be satisfied as long as a Negro in Mississippi cannot vote and a Negro in New York believes he has nothing for which to vote. No, no, we are not satisfied, and we will not be satisfied until justice rolls down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream. I am not unmindful that some of you have come here out of great trials and tribulations. Some of you have come fresh from narrow cells. Some of you have come from areas where your quest for freedom left you battered by the storms of persecution and staggered by the winds of police brutality. You have been the veterans of creative suffering. Continue to work with the faith that unearned suffering is redemptive. Go back to Mississippi, go back to Alabama, go back to South Carolina, go back to Georgia, go back to Louisiana, go back to the slums and ghettos of our northern cities, knowing that somehow this situation can and will be changed. Let us not wallow in the valley of despair.

I say to you today, my friends, that in spite of the difficulties and frustrations of the moment I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream.

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed "We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal."

I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.

I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a desert state sweltering with the heat of injustice and oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

I have a dream today.

I have a dream that one day the state of Alabama, whose governor's lips are presently dripping with the words of interposition and nullification, will be transformed into a situation where little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls and walk together as sisters and brothers.

I have a dream today.

I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low, and rough places will be made plains, and the crooked places will be made straight, and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together.

This is our hope. This is the faith with which I return to the south. With this faith we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope. With this faith will be able to transform the jangling discords of our nation into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood. With this faith we will be able to work together, to pray together, to struggle together, to go to jail together, to stand up for freedom together, knowing that we will be free one day.

This will be the day when all of God's children will be able to sing with a new meaning "My country 'tis of thee, sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing. Land where my fathers died, land of the pilgrim's pride, from every mountainside, let freedom ring."

And if America is to be a great nation this must come true. So let freedom ring from the prodigious hilltops of New Hampshire. Let freedom ring from the mighty mountains of New York. Let freedom ring from the heightening Alleghenies of Pennsylvania.

Let freedom ring from the snow capped Rockies of Colorado. Let freedom ring from the curvaceous peaks of California. But not only that let freedom ring from Stone Mountain in Georgia. Let freedom ring from Lookout Mountain of Tennessee. Let freedom ring from every hill and mole hill of Mississippi. From every mountainside, let freedom ring.

When we let freedom ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual, Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty we are free at last!"

Today that "Bell of Freedom" rang…in a new way 47 years ago.

~ An Inseparable Bond ~

An Inseparable Bond

With all the experiences of life in front of them
Nothing but unique
Growing up within the same family
Born within the very same day
The positions they do share
One may go in one direction
While the other fancies another
Yet how unique it is
As there shall always be that bond
Their closeness brings about a potential
Within both of them
During there youth
As well as during their futures
Which lay all in front of them
Possibilities and situations
Shall always come
Much like a thread
There will be an inseparable manner
Within each and everyday
From today and onto the future
While still at a very young stage
One whispers to another
With just a murmur and a giggle
For there is a bond
Within the future
Regardless of where life leads
The will always have and inseparable bond

While approaching August’s Conclusion




I went downtown this morning as I wanted to see what was going on here with this festive traditional celebration was taking place amongst the Ukrainian cultural center. There were several people all out most were Ukraine I guess but it was open to all. Come tomorrow and as well later on today I am sure that this will be huge as within this province the origins of what originally made it up were a mix of English, Scottish, Ukrainians, and Germans. I ran into this one person that was dressed in some sort of traditional attire. He spoke so fast and with a little bit of an accent but I could be corrected but he was wearing the traditional wardrobe of what I would see as being that of a Cossack attire that would go back a few centuries but still I really don’t know. There was this mass taking place just to commence the beginning of these festivities. There after I have always wanted to get a summer view the river, which would include the Bessborough Hotel, so I was fortunate to be able to talk with the Radisson Hotel manager and get to the very top suite within the building, not the rooftop but within this case by way of the presidential suite. Still, I am been looking up and pondering what this one man symbolized. I have look within many areas and think he is a Cossack, but something does tell me otherwise.
While I was within this suite at the Radisson the manager took me over to another room that which was already vacated. And I took a picture from the 18th floor of the other west. And I was able to get what is called the Broadway Bridge as well as the Victoria Bridge. The Victoria bridge which is which is all black, was originally built within the 1800’s. Two years ago the city closed the bridge down for six months as it was deemed unsafe and then they placed in 2 million dollars in preventative maintenance work, which has lasted till recently. The city was going recently is at odds with the people of the city as they wish to tear it down, as it’s has a historical value. So it’s an a situation that will that will be tabled within city hall – however I think that the people will get what they wish as those that are elected into these positions do were voted into office by the people of the city and rather than having there own agenda they will have to consider the cost. Perhaps it’s a case of retaining the old and in some manner building on to this one last historical bridge with something that is new. However it shall be costly never the less. If a the university here can retain and as well build on new buildings by way of federal, provincial monies combined with some that have contributed by way of fundraisers I feel that this can apply within the city as well. As they have a reserve as well as a surplus of monies that have been there in place for the past twenty years.

Back to this one Ukrainian gent that was all dressed up within ancient historical Ukrainian attire I think he was a Cossack yet something tells me he might very well be something else. I am not sure, as I never really looked into the historical areas of Ukrainians.

George Carlin on Aging

The late, great George Carlin did one of the really great comedy bits years ago. If you’ve heard it before, it bears repeating, and if you haven’t heard it, I’m sure you’ll enjoy his comments. He made us realize that the only time in our lives when we like to get old was when we were kids.

If you’re less than ten years old you’re so excited about aging that you think in fractions. “How old are you”? “I’m 4 and a ½”. You’re never 36 and ½, you’re 4 and ½ going on 5. That’s the key. Then when you get into your teens you jump right into the next number or even a few ahead. “How old are you”? “I’m gonna be 16”. You could be 13 but, hey, you’re ‘gonna’ be 16. And then the greatest day of your life, you’become’21. Even the words sound like a ceremony, you BECOME 21. ~Yes~ But then, you turn 30. Hmm, what happened there? Sorta makes you sound like bad milk. He TURNED. Yes we had to throw him out. There’s no fun now, he’s just a sour dumpling. What’s wrong here? What’s changed?

You BECOME 21... You TURN 30..., then just like that you’re PUSHING 40.
Wait a minute it’s time to put on the brakes here! It’s all slipping away. Before you know it you REACH, not STRETCH into 50…. and your dreams are gone. But wait a minute or better yet…. you MAKE it to 60. You didn’t think you would, didn’t even conceive the idea nor the number.

So you BECOME 21, TURN 30, PUSH 40, REACH 50, and MAKE it to 60... You’ve built up so much speed that you now HIT 70. And then after that it’s a day by day thing. By the time one ACHIEVES 80 and gets a call most often the answers for the day is, “Great, I woke up”!

Simple Worth in an Unplanned Day

So often there are times in which the there are messages that we will interpret within many ways. I myself still do believe that a handshake and stating my name seemingly may be something that has come to be old school but it certainly goes a long way. Meanwhile while writing within a blog a hand shake or true good will is something that is much more difficult and you really have to back it up with honesty. And then there is that nonchalant “hello” or “hi how are you” it does seem to still be prevalent even within these times. For myself, I accept things that are without too many conditions. I take full responsibility for my life in what it is and what it is not. I understand the conditions and importance of harmony within my thoughts, and behavior, which really translates to peace and contentment. We all have certain ideals and we really don’t place much thought within them. What I find is that in doing what one does, it’s something that is with good judgment, honesty, and what I find is when is honest with themselves and they are working at there best they come to a richness within this world and in some way shape and form we do radiate our very own world.

Today I cancelled a good portion of my day as I went to go take my father for a small walk. However by the time I arrived there he was adamant that it was much too early and that he would do something else. I left and I shook his hand then left while grabbing a sandwich that was sitting on the counter, of course I wouldn’t have done it if there was just only one. So while walking to my car I was figuring out what to do, take into consideration it’s went from hot to a rather cool day much like an early spring. So it wasn’t exactly that kind of a day that one could just take in the sun but when you realize what is around the corner, I need not say much more. So I decided on a whim to go to this old friend of mine, named John. I went to his recording studio as I thought this would be fun however upon arriving there the place was closed. I would guess that John must now have a tremendous base of musicians that come in or are booked from now right through till the new year. I even tried to call him by my cellular as I wished to go in and see how much has changed as I have not been back to the studio for the longest time. However there is nothing like getting those messages that say press 1 to leave a message, press 2 if you wish to speak with someone else and then by that time I just cancelled the call and said what’s next? I drove slightly out of town to the arena here. By this time that inner ear was speaking to me and it was saying, “you should have….” Well you know what I mean.

While I was sitting down and talking to the administrator at the “Credit Union Centre”, we struck up a conversation on how the city never did plan for this boom that is going on as literally every main street throughout the city is just now going through expansions as there is just too much traffic and regardless of the hour it’s always busy. I hope this city never becomes shallow, as there is that tendency within some very large cities. A rather simple Friday yet there very unplanned yet there was enjoyment within it.

How People Overcome Obstacles

There are three people that stand out to me if not a few more with regards to what they have triumphed during hard times. One was a person named Rick, I have kept in contact with him and was raised with him. His father owned a large million dollar business called Empire Pipeline. Unfortunately, at a very young age Rick, his mother and sister were all shoved into a small apartment when his father decided to have and affair with his secretary. Rick went through a very hard time and then when things recently all went down Rick went nearly went bankrupt. Yet he stayed within his sister he rendered his faith and then as of just a few months ago he is working within a hospital as a spokesman coupled with getting recently married to a Haitian lady. Ricki is doing very good I spoke to him just one month ago.

Kevin, he came back home from Afghanistan and he hit the bottle and very harshly. To the point that one friend of mine and myself found him in bed going through what is called a psychosis. Kevin spent six months within a psychiatric ward. However after being diagnosed. He lived at the top of an old building and he really had no close. My friend Jim and myself, bought him some clothes rented him an apartment and as well monitored him for a while and then by way of my friend Jim, whom had good contacts federally - Kevin ended up going to Korea to teach English and came back and restarted his life and now works within customs.

I recall when I was living within New York City there was a man that looked like he was a bum and I just was leaving out of the gym and at the subway entrance this person was beating on a Japanese man. I went over and broke it up and then I could see that the person was a Vietnam Vet. So I took him away from the situation of the fighting and we talked and I asked him a few questions that only he would perhaps understand. At the time ironically, he was homeless and I had a good friend by the name of Orlando. I called Orlando and I am not sure what happened to the man but I do know that Orlando promised that he would take care of it. The next day Orlando indicated that he as well was put into proper care and that he would keep an eye on it and arrange by way of what I believe is called Veteran’s affairs six months later he was sober and was back slowly on his way to at least being an able citizen.

With each and every obstacle that we all see there we really never know what the case is for that person. But when we take the measure and look beyond ourselves there is that certain good will that is a feel good. I will find the pictures of two of these people as I have them and it's one thing to look down at someone and it's another to look beyond that and understand that there are a variety of reasons why there are people that are on the streets. Certainly so, however so often we cast an eye and look the other way. Within my family we have contributed to the less fortunate that suffer from Cancer within one of three hospitals’ here. My desire believe it or not is to build an offshoot building that is tied in with the medical system here. I might fail, I might not. However the merit is within doing. One thought of good will goes a long distance within the economic times that we face as well other areas that we face within these times but for every given situation with the assistance or that small deed that we all can do it creates such a large different to those that are less fortunate.
Perhaps it's all within our perspectives of how we think as some cast a blind eye where there are others that do take that time and do something that truly is of value and I am certain that I am not the only one that has done things as such. As well, I have had my own challenges, with family and as well to be very frank with myself with regards to my knees yet as the old saying goes - where there is a will there is a way.

As if you think life has done you in - it has. If you think that life has much to offer - there is one out there just waiting for so many people that during these times find it hard to just make ends meat. I look at the brighter side of things yet as well I do live my own life and so often in what I have found by way of experience. One really comes to render the best of themselves when they are compassionate to not only others but as well while being compassionate to themselves. To this day I keep in contact with Rick, Kevin, my good friend Jim.

 

Under Stated Scenery within a Mingle




I have been much too busy during the day with some good things, which have come about. However it's not as easy taking the same pictures that I once did before. Upon my return from Montreal I found that here there security has tightened up here within the city. To take pictures within so many places you first have to sign a form and it goes through a process.

The first three pictures are of the small observatory here that is open during the weekdays within the evening right within the university here. Then picture 13 is one of five new buildings going up around the hospital - here too you can't get in and I basically just took it from across the street as it's the new nurses education building.

There after is a park that I often do like to walk and half run which is right near the riverside. Then lol there is my knee leg it's symbolic as I have my own reasons. The Mendel Art Gallery is still here as well as the Botanical area, which is part and parcel to the Mendel Art Gallery. There after this gives a view of the city from the very east side it's on the top floor of a friend’s condo and I thought while visiting I would take a few snapshots.

And we certainly know what grocery shopping is all about! So perhaps it's understated within a small mingle.

My Blog is Not a Group

Within my notes I had place a moral question, thereafter I went out with my cousin and her friend I placed a note in which the manner I see it is that everyone certainly can make a comment. I arrived home this evening with one starting what she wishes to do. I find it very crazed when some will fabricate something. I didn’t realize that I had stirred up something up, as that was my intention. However unknowing to me one did start something and that was her desire since I made a write on here. Character assassinations, they happen some will do it and there is nothing that you can do except delete. The fall out was not due to my own making but one that assumed something and I have never been to her blog in which had a picture. And the thread worked Heidi. I don't need for you to sit there and wait till I am gone off line to do this as I could easily outsource this to the moderators of a group, but I won't, I don't need to. Secondly this is my blog and I will say it, you as well as the owner and moderator of PP can see if I have been to your blog. I haven’t been to your blog to see what you posted today nor yesterday or the day before that. Yet you gossip beyond belief. I am just going to let you sit there and enjoy what you have assumed and done, as your Intention was unbecoming.

What my intention of doing was to write something of my own with regards to society and that was the reason of my note. It's a sad state of affairs when one will gossip and continue to try to bring another down and others have no clue as to what is going on. I don't need to get on the phone nor messenger friends to do what you just did tonight. It's a funny thing this internet and social networks but it goes back to my previous writing so I hope you feel good with what your trying to do and call anyone as well as Multiply for that matter as to state that I was at your blog can be proven by fact that I was. You caused a nice fall out there. And it's a pity.
I would hope that most due take it for what it's worth and you are truly something as your dynamic on my blog was to write that I was to your blog. My note that I wrote and came back here tonight was not about you. It was a moral question. Nothing more and nothing less.

I enjoy writing and I will continue to do so and read others but I am not going on your blog in the manner that you have on mine and I think you’re in your 60's. Seemingly you have it out for me but when it comes down to it, here is what you don't get I am not out for anyone, the note was a moral question and if I wouldn’t have been called out tonight I would have caught this before it started. So do as you please and fake it as much as you wish.

There are those that have negative intentions and they will do anything to try to bring you down amongst there friends. This one really took me off guard with what you did. How low can you go? This is for enjoyment and freedom of expression but if you wish to do character assassinations pick someone else. Meanwhile while I was out at a restaurant obviously you could see that I was offline. One big request pick someone else or go look for a good long time in the mirror, then stay there for a while.

Yet you did a great job a ruffling things up with many...stay off my blog.

Picture Perfect - Urban Decay

Some of my Favorites Part 2 (15)

 

This week’s theme as well as competition within Picture Perfect is Urban Decay.

Now here is one that I have only one time did I see something and had a camera at hand. However I don't have many pictures that are about the decay of society coupled with the fact that there are bylaws that are enforced here very stringently. However here is another from Montreal.  Yet it could be any city of country within this industrialized world.

After a nights end there was some area that there was debris left all over. Bylaws are enforced pending the status of the government or the city and what they set up. As far as buildings some cities have it where a buildings can’t be left, the fact remains that there will always be decay. Although Canada is a rather clean country with most provinces and municipalities having very stringent bylaws and law enforcement that makes this rather difficult – unless one does wish to go looking for something that could be trouble within the decay of society. So this is my picture for Urban Decay, it's the trash that is left on the streets after a night and it's rather shocking to see how much is thrown out as it is a composed of left over food, bottles of all food and all types of alcohol beverages. Meanwhile there are people living on the top of confectioneries, restaurants, and they just literally get by from day to the next - it happens within each and every city (urban).

That to me is the decay of our society as we never take notice that there are people that for several reasons would do anything to have a good meal, meanwhile what wastage there on the streets. Urban decay has two sides to it. Those that are within poverty and those that are taking subways into town and thereafter enjoying a meal that easily goes from $50.00 dollars and with some it winds up being $300.00 dollars easily. Meanwhile others are trying to make ends meet. I would never take a picture of someone that is homeless. I don't think it's an ethical area within this theme called, Urban Decay. There are some ethical questions within this theme. Certainly so...

This is mine and we often look at what we have but we never take into regard the waste and what others don't have regardless of why or what the case may be.

Cliches from a Variety of Countries

Meetings a variety of people from various countries and of different ethnic origins reminded me how culturally diverse this we really are. Many of our well-known sayings and clichés have come from other countries.

For example, from Denmark we get, “The road to a friend’s house is never long”. From Italy comes, “If a man deceives me once, shame on him. If he deceives me twice, shame on me”. Out of France we get, “Rats desert a sinking ship” along with, “Nothing is as burdensome as a secret”.

From Spain we have, “It is better to conceal one’s knowledge than to reveal one’s ignorance”. From Germany we get, “Who begins too much accomplishes little”.

The Dutch have some interesting ones, such as, “You can’t hatch chickens from fried eggs”. The Irish hatched a few classics as in, “ Necessity is the mother of invention”, along with, “ You cannot make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear”. And our English friends have given us many sage sayings such as, “A friend in need is a friend indeed”. “Better the devil you know than the devil you don’t know”. “A bird in the hand is worth tow in the bush”. And, a couple about man’s best friend, “Let sleeping dogs lie”, and, “Every dog hath its day”.

The Brits also say that “Honesty is the best policy” so I’m off to “Make hay while the sun shines”, because “There’s no time like the present”.

Tags....

I have never used tags, not as nearly as I could, there is something to be said for that but well I have this computer running finally within my editor. It's been since April since my desktop was ever touched. However it was a good day. I have some good options and it's funny how things happen when you least expect them. I am not sure about you but my feelings are there is much more when it comes to debates. If one starts or brings up a subject there is always a misinterpretation perhaps in what we write. But today was a fine day all in all. Sometimes we all do jump to conclusion and there is distention within what we write. There will always be different point of views but over the last year I have come to find that life is much too short for discourse really got into the some political talks and as the old saying goes, say nothing unless you know what your talking about.
Debates on America, Australia, really there is so much information out there that one can become a reporter and just post and copy.
Yet so be it. However dialogue is something that is much more that brings about a dialogue. I guess you would call them global views. I do feel that most do write as they want to enjoy things however with a few there can be some very interesting blogs to say the least. Not often will I write on politics as the circumstances get heated and the manner that I see things is with enjoyment as well as the ability to gain and learn something from things.
I know why so many people have joined into groups, as it's a fun thing. Yet at the same time I truly believe that you do onto others as other do onto you. Life is not a mind game going on within the Internet. It's that ability to write without pretenses as it's a form of dialogue and there can be an understanding that does come to be.
Are we all residing within United States and following everything that is going on within the USA. I think not as there are tremendous people from all facets and all areas around the world. I certainly am not a blog but I certainly feel. Respect is one thing and aid and abet is certainly another. As well as gossip. Respect is one thing and aid and abet is certainly another. Respect is one thing and aid and abet is certainly another. I love writing whatever area I feel of interest. And sometimes the words do not come out right. Areas that are enjoyable and as well ones in which one can gain a greater understanding of various areas. However back to my tags, I don't do them and I have to get back into the use of them.
Life is much to short for games as such there is one friends write that stood out to me and I shall if I have enough time write on it but sometimes I ponder what some are thinking behind there keyboards as I know one thing - for the one that thinks they know it all, is usually the one that will tend to chat it up and there is a meaning to all of this - a good one. Never expect to have high hope, but have your own hopes and desires, as never can you please everyone. Yet one can please themselves and those that they feel of importance.
Tomorrow despite things that I have wrote about before I am heading back into the gym as I did it before but shall do it again. Perseverance was something I read to day and certainly was inspired by it.

Well this is the best time of the day if you ask me. I heard my alarm going off and for some reason I can't remember my dream but but somehow it was within the dream. I am not sure that comes over well...But just having my first coffee. And I am on, yes I am on one day of just "me".

Wait a sec have to check on the eggs that are boiling....Yep all done. ~smiles~ well this is getting rather cool here and it's time to start moving clothes around and getting the right ones set up mind you there could be a warmer climate and then I have to get some new sneakers. It's pinnacle that I get back into the gym now and within my old mall there is a new gym which is modern and actually with all in consideration it has everything and it might be well worth my time to start that up.

Lets see what else....I have had several job offers back in Edmonton, Alberta and this is the month of decisions. Yeah that could have been my title. We shall see how things are. I love this city however the entire west of Canada I have loved as well. Edmonton, Alberta is a nice city, within Canada one of my favorites is a place called Calgary. As within just 40 minutes your right within Banff. What we do and what we need is something that I think we all look for. The only think I don't look for is what comes after this month but hey there is nothing that you can do about it. Well, I guess there is but I wish to move within somewhat of a close proximate if I do. But that is just my early morning thoughts and I have not even ate yet.

While a Haze of Smoke Covers the Sun within August




All one could see was the haze. We have been warned already with regards to the amount of ash clouds that have come our way as just as just a few days ago, British Columbia’s forest fires clouded their air and then started to move eastwards. Not typical if you ask me. But it was expected. I have never seen it where fires from so far away have been taken by the jet stream and have been able to come this far. I spoke to my brother in Edmonton last night and he is on his inhaler. Edmonton was hit very hard but then again Alberta is right next to these fires.

This has been a very different year. One of an seemingly, a extraordinary time of weather yet we can look at the last two years and say it has been very rare. No one has control over their weather. One just takes it as it comes, but yet there is the very good possibility that this shall all be gone. As an Indian summer could very well happen. You never can predict the weather but hope at this time of the year that the Indian that represents this year lived a long life.

Yet there is rain, there is the cool to the warm and the unknown of what this very next month shall bring. Yet you can hear the birds, it’s too early for migration so we shall allow nature to take its very own course.

I thank all that did send a message over to me as last night I was really very stressed out let alone very tired this morning however all seeming worked out. There can be politcs, personal notes and so forth that are posted within here but for me when I see othes that do have writing on Cancer and I knew what I was going to face today - it's that render of acceptance. It's not easy but you do it so I do wish to extend a thank you and get on with things. As all things are good with my father and if you wish to have a url with regards to him just ask. We all are gifted within life and what we use and how we live is within our own compromises. Now is that a gift or is that otherwise? I am not sure as I never think I have all the answers and never shall offline or online.

For some reason this song came over me and I am wondering whom wrote it. However don't get me wrong in any manner as this thing called Cancer is terrible and not only are the people with it effected (as I saw many some time ago), but there are family members that literally are effected too.My blog is predominantly about peridomantly about humanities, I might seem a little serious at times but as well I enjoy things and right now the shoes are not shined, but the saying goes for miles as it's good to have things over with and to have the time to write in which I wish to an hope to along with those of you that are friend. I hope your getting to know me better as I seem to know many of you well - I do but we all are equal within this world and place your ego at the side and allow yourslelf to just enjoy what is simply life. While I am getting to know you better as well but I am not on here for Love.

Hence, My name is Jack.....doing a squeeze hugs to the gals, doing a shake with the lads. And emphathizing with those that linger in the "corridors" of health matters.

Many Know...

My father is a stage 4 cancer ....I guess you would say survivor. It's been all of ten years and tomorrow I will be going into the hospital as a procedure is being done and pending all that takes place I may not be online for a few, if so I enjoy this so and I am rather reserve to some extent when it comes to family. However, I enjoy this but at the same time doing things as such can be taxing so we shall see how it goes.

I have read a few that seem to be going through the same thing so I am not much to write on things that are so close to me and I may or may not be on, but the best of wishes to you all and a great weekend to you in the case that I am not back on for a day or two.

The Digital Age...

There is always something interesting within all of this just a few days ago I had the came to understand how to place in more than one picture within a write - that is allot of work! I enjoy writing and as well as reading. How we mix it up and blog is all to interesting. you sit. I literally have to get up and walk around but it's much better than being a couch patatoe watching television. There are names of friends within here that again I see it as an enjoyable collaboration. I could name names but even though I have been computing for some 15 years now, there is always something more that can be learned. I see how some can do somethings with such ease and it's literally a great fun and then some. We all have our own ways of what we do and how we do things as well as the manner in which we write.

Yes it's the digital age and a form of expression! And within the evening how one does enjoy it so. However politics are something which I will read and respond to but I am not much for writing much on them. Just imagine the days in which we didn't do this and there was no computing happening would we be better off?

I think not but there are pros and cons to everything...

A Random Collection within August




Well, I have to try to place a few picture within my writes but I thought I would place in a few pictures that I took over the weekend, It's rather hard to describe them all. It goes from a building that now is nearly finished to work that has been being done at the university as well as the university grounds a pond that I am rather fond of.

There is relevance with some and then some are just simply enjoyable. Within a picture there is always a story behind it. I must give a try to doing this placing of a few pictures within my blog but I thought I would just load these up.

Conflicting Sayings

When I don’t have much else to talk about I like to look at our wonderful English language, which is full of sayings that contradict themselves or just don’t make much sense. Like when someone says they have come to an “initial conclusion” about something. That must come before the “final” conclusion?

We’ll hear about “partial cease fires” in a war zone. Is that when they’re only using some of their weapons?  When thinking, someone will say they are “drawing a blank”. How does one do that exactly? In January I’ve heard the expression, “it’s cold as hell”. I beg your pardon?

I love it when CEO’s refer to their “corporate family”. Oh yeah sure as it’s really it comes down to one or the other thank you. Next you might have heard someone refer to things as “approximately equal”. I guess some things are more equal than others...

Then within sports there is that classic saying, “near miss” which, as we all know, is actually a “near hit” because if it’s a near miss then…crash! And then within a conversation I am sure you have heard someone say, “no comment”.

Sorry, but no comment is a comment.

How many ways can one say "Thank you" ?

Keeping UP with it All

Well it's been a Sunday! Not online but just going about doing those things that one does. Each of does have our own lives there is that portion that I just enjoy blogging. I don't blog on any other blogs as there just isn't enough time.

Then there is something said in being being polite. Politeness is that art of choosing your thoughts. I guess within here is more within the choice of words. How many ways can one say thank you? How many ways can one say something without it being misinterpreted? Being polite, isn't that one that just says things for the sake of gaining more. But it's just within their own character. Mind you one can't sit behind a computer all day. From what I see there are really some great folks that are on here. Quality versus quantity. I love the thoughts, the commonalities and the differences. Mind you at the same time when I do write sometimes I am not too sure that the words come out right but seemingly they do, which is an added plus.

There are two important things that will be happening this week one is within my family and one is with regards to me. So when the time is right I shall write about it but it's great it's truly a pleasure in writing along with others. There's this notion that everyone has there very own blog. I agree but I believe that there is a connection between each and every one of us and it's interesting to say the least.

I did see this one cousin of mine for lunch she picked up the tab - that's an added plus!Sundays are probably the busiest time for me. It's that catch up time. as it's a time where I will call friends, as well as make a few visits, and then tend to family matters my folks that is and ensure that all is going alright.

We all have a few people now and then that we see as good folks that are worthy of being a friend on here. In the past I think that some thought I was playing it and being "Mr. Happy", but really I enjoy writing and I will write my own views as well as I believe that it is a small world and that there is pleasure in what ever we call this. Then as well, it's all done within balance.

Ground Zero Mosque - Commentary by Jack

On the topic of the Islamic center set to be built near the site of the downed Twin Towers, I love NYC, it's a second home to me, however I dismiss what New York Mayor Bloomberg seems to fear.  That Americans will carry the mark of intolerance unless they permit the building to go forward.

From 9/11 onwards, from the White House to main street, Americans have made it sunshine clear that the attacks of that day were not going to warp their country’s values, were not an occasion for raining abuse or vengeance upon America’s Muslim citizens. George W. Bush himself, with the full weight of his office was without stint in proclaiming Islam a “religion of peace.” He even went to a Washington mosque to underline solidarity with American Muslims. Which strips all force from Bloomberg’s lukewarm pleadings that there is now, a near decade on, the need for 13 or 15 storey homage to Islam but a shadow away from ground zero, to supply some sort of architectural proof of tolerance.

How tolerant America has been on this issue is further shown in the near lack of concern and ease which the proponents of the Ground Zero mosque. They think it’s the most normal, casual thing in the world to propose such a building next door to the greatest terror operation ever unleashed in America, executed by Islamist fanatics in the dead heart of America’s greatest city, and involving the murder of thousands, the desolation of families, unspeakable mental and physical sacrifices by first responding fire and police personnel not to mention the financial repercussions the destruction was also designed to achieve.

It is an almost boundlessly tolerant city and society, New York and America that is. But within my own opinion we must make a note on this one very point. A tolerance is being, and has been, shown, towards Islam, which Islam emphatically does not show to other creeds in regions or countries where Islam is predominant. In some Muslim places, a mere Bible in a suitcase is offence. What is the gap? I ponder between the number of mosques in Western, nominally Christian cities, and the number of Christian churches or cathedrals in predominantly Muslim ones? In New York alone, there already are at least a hundred mosques. How many Catholic cathedrals, Shinto shrines or Buddist temples are within Saudi Arabia? Please don’t get me wrong I truly love cultures and people but there is something to be said on how tolerant we are. I think that works within our best interests as well as our core values.

Seemingly tolerance received or enjoyed by Muslims in the West does not seem to stimulate an impulse to afford a reciprocal tolerance effect from Muslims to other religions in countries where Islam is dominant. So, again, America has nothing to prove within this domain.

Perhaps, just perhaps the question now is not “Should it be built?” But, “What is to be built?”

Addendum to post: In no manner do I have any hate with any culture it's very much to the contrary, this write is about Tolerance as I am not sure if this came out right to most or not. I have was raised and lived half my life in New York City and the other half in Canada.

Determination

A Small Kind of Assortment

Here we are in the middle of August now and this morning it was again cool. I wished to go out and just take a few pictures but there is nothing like it when it feels like Autumn and yet it's still summer. So I went around to various places and really couldn't find much that I wished to take a picture of, I almost feel that I have cover this town last year. Ironically while I was in route to the university grounds here I found a man that was within his 70's. He had went through a mild heart attack and then at the same time some sort of condition caused for his legs to be amputated. I pulled over and struck up a conversation with him and we hit it off very well. I never will just take a picture of someone without indicating what I am doing.

What I came to find is that older folk seem to have that tenacity to keep things going. He had this procedure done just three months ago with his legs and after two months he started to walk along with these poles.

It's rather interesting how some people have that inner spirit or determination to keep things on the up and up. I wished him well after we talked for a few moments and it was something that I have always seemingly found. That is that in some way shape and form there is something that elder people have within them generally speaking. He said that within two months he plans to just be walking with a cane. I bet he is right as in the manner that he spoke one could really see that he was one that does not give up.

I think there is something to be said for that. There are those that are very determined within there own ways. I find that there just perhaps the elder people have lived in times in which they have a great way of rendering it.

Canada proceeds in processing Tamil Migrants

An anticipated 490 Tamil migrants arrived by way of a cargo ship seeking refugee shelter at the shores of western Canada today. They arrived earlier today near a Canadian Forces Base within the province of British Columbia. The migrants are believed to be Tamils from Sri Lanka who left their homeland in May spending almost three months at sea. Five ambulances started delivering migrants from the cargo ship to Victoria General Hospital. Security screening prevented a clear view of how many people were exiting from the ambulances that started arriving late morning. The cries of young children could be heard behind the security fence.

Security investigations immediately commenced by the Canadian Border Services Agency as well as the RCMP to determine whether this was a case of refugees combined with human smugglers or and as well whether if a portion of the 490 migrants were terrorists. As there is speculation that criminals or terrorists may have hijacked the ship, namely the Tamil Tiger Terrorist organization that have been outlawed from the lands of Canada since 2006. Canada has been very welcoming of refugees, but the government will be going through the process to ensure that the refugee system is not being abused.

The migrants are being transported from a Canadian Forces Base within British Columbia to various destinations, including Victoria General Hospital and the Wilkinson Road Jail in Victoria, British Columbia. On board the ship included, a six month old infant and two pregnant women who have been taken to a Victoria hospital today as the first passengers from a migrant ship that arrived earlier in the.

Canada has long been seen as a desirable haven to those seeking asylum, providing sanctuary to American slaves covertly traveling the Underground Railroad in the mid1800s to displaced people arriving from Europe following the close of the Second World War to Vietnamese families arriving on the shores of Canada in the late 70s.
In the years following the Vietnam War, over one million refugees fled the war ravaged countries of Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. But the process of accepting refugees has also stirred controversy. In the 1930s, Canada accepted a modest 4,000 Jewish refugees seeking asylum amid begrudging public acceptance. In recent years, critics have claimed Canada's refugee policy is too lax, allowing rejected claimants to remain in the country too long. In June 2010, the federal government passed new legislation to speed the process of processing refugees.

In the first half of 2009, Canada fielded 18,700 new asylum claims. In comparison with 44 other industrialized countries, Canada was the third largest recipient of asylum applications, trailing the United States and France. The report also found the number of asylum applications in 2009 held steady with the year before, with 377,200 applications submitted.

Tamil families desperate to reunite with relatives and hopefully all does go well.
