The Banking System...

Seemingly there is a need for economic change. I could stand to be corrected and I know that most don't like thinking about this but why is it that a regulated system looked upon as being a breach within the government within the US right now?

Seem's that there are things that keep happening within that banking system right now and it's the money of the people by way of taxation with representation.

It's not a negative but I could stand to be corrected but in a regulated banking system the government by way of law has the ability to place certain areas into place whereby there cannot be a breach within the banks. It may be a resolve for the time being...

In no manner do I look at things from one vantage when it comes to economics, I look at it from a variety of areas. As well as some that really seem to have understanding of the times in which we ALL are facing.

Just my thoughts...

  1. I would have thought there'd have been more regulation than there apparently was, to start with. Kinda scarey to think that there were no "watchdogs" , or that they were apparently sleeping on duty.
Given the mess things are in, I think there needs to be regulation.
I understand very little about how such things work, or what exactly, regulation would entail.
Somthing definitely needs to be done differently.

  2. Regulation is considered to be he device by which government not only protects against abuses, but a means of limiting the accumulation of wealth, a repression of personal liberties. Those who are suspicious of it view it as a two edged sword. It cuts for potential good, but by the same protectionist measures it can be used repressively. Folks in America tend not to trust those in power. the record of the powerful is pretty bad....

  3. You very well could be right I am looking at it from a regulatory manner. As I could be wrong Norma but I don't thing there has ever been regulated banks within the United States.
In Canada the government does observe what takes place within the banking system. Everyone of the banks in Canada are observed and backed up by the government. The banking systems and institutions have to be accountable, and if there was a mandate put into place - they the banks and institutions by way of law have to abide by the rules that are set out.

I watched the news and it's really in a frenzy of sorts.

  6. That was a very interesting article: "Canada rated world's soundest bank system: survey" I imagine the US has slipped even further in the rankings since that article was printed in Oct. We've had our worst news in the months since, including all the buy-outs, bail-outs, and fall-outs. We are probably looking pretty dismal about now. They should do another survey. I'd be interested in the numbers since we've had so disarray in the last several months.

  7. Volker is right, but getting this implemented will be a tough job with all those deregulation-loving republicans obstructing at every turn in Congress. There is beginning to be a sizable backlash however, so I fear for the obstructionists come next election if their constituents don't see some relief and they get smart and hold their congressmen accountable.

  8. Just for now, but it will change. It's not looking great economically as I am sure that you know as you have wrote on. I don't believe any country has all the answers, but when I was watching this on television and my previous post as I do believe that it's going to take America to build up and it will impact everyone economy which it has but right now these numbers do illustrate something, mind you Canada has a population that can fit inside New York State. However there are other countries as you can see that are on this system.

    It's an economical consideration...

  9. I personally don't think anything comes overnight - especially economically.

This is a combination of many things but the super power of the world has never had this situation erupt, and I do hope that congress or I wish that congress could work together. And as well, we need to go ahead as it impacts everything that we do right now in our countries. I hate to see things go downwards at least they could come into some neutrality.

  12. Yeah and then there are some that really have a handle on it - but I don't think most feel it's an attack on America - which is not the case.

  13. I agree with Feathers. It does get people thinking. I didn't see it as an attack on the US. Our leaders dropped the ball, plain and simple. Well, maybe not so simple, but ya know what I mean.

  14. Our "leaders" need to get out of each others' way, and remember that they serve *the people*, not each other or themselves. < grinds teeth loudly >

  15. My nickname/user-name is withFEATHERSinmyhair, which I have used to chat with at Yahoo and in Yahoo 360 blogs. Ergo, I am known as Feathers, or even as Plumitas (the affectionate of Feathers in Argentine Spanish) by the old timers of chat, dating back as far as 16 years or so into the past.

  16. Sorry for the confusion, Jack. I am in the habit of calling Rhonda "Feathers" most of the time. A habit carried over from when we were in Books 1 chatroom together.

Yeah, Rhonda. They do need to remember they're supposed to be serving the people, not their own agendas. I am convinced if more of us voted they'd not be forgetting so easily whom they serve.

  20. Danette this was something I was thinking about as there is one friend that does write on this and then in watching television last night I really had to ask what some thought, I try not to push it ...I really don't. Change is good, I believe in this so much right now.

  21. That's where we need to start -- getting public servants to realize that they are *not* some sort of self-serving, quasi-informal royalty. Voting will help get that done. So will asserting freedom of speech and subsequent word of mouth power (therein lies the roots of the people's power).
