What the mind and body can do... This is an area in which I am very determined person with things that are realistic to go for and to obtain. Only if I have an inkling that I know what I am doing I will be determined. If it's something out of my league, I won't do something blindly. I will just go along with what seems to be appropriate.
One year ago I had a mishap with two areas. They were my knees and my shoulder. The shoulder was something that took an amazing long time. By the time I saw the Orthopedic Surgeon, nearly one year had passed by. During the month of July, I was in so much pain that I was not sure where I was going too and it was literally a situation of sinking or swimming. I am not sure if any of you have had sometime that you push forward and realize that in some manner you have to try.
Effectively on the first of August I pushed and I had some assistance with my family doctor with an anti convulsant medication. I was not in great shape at the time and I could see over two months how much I was regressing. I pushed. I literally pushed and would go through so much pain after each day that I started back to my training.
I was scheduled to have a surgery at the end of this month and I was fortunate to be able to meet with this Orthopedic Surgeon. He looked me over (torso) and then he indicated that I had put one good weight since he had last seen me and as well he asked me if I was training and I indicated to him I was. He said that I have done something right as I have built up areas that have resembled what is done in physical therapy. He indicated for me to continue and see him in two weeks - and that the problem is rectified and that I have a small amount of arthritis that is normal at a certain age for many - and that I should get in my vitamin D, along with something I have been taking which is Calcium along with Glucose Amin.
I am so glad that this is over with. Apparently from the CT Scan there is no dislocated tendon, as there was six months ago. And apparently I never had a rotor cuff tear, I had something else which for the life of me I don’t know what it is, all I know what that the option was to pop the joint out in surgery and then place it back in. So that was the big one with a long time to heal afterwards. So free atlas! Free Atlas. I was at the gym and a had some fun teasing four people I know that keep complaining and say what pain they are in and how they can't do this or that. I know them so I can get away with it and one that works at the gym that was trained well in kineseology gave me some credit. So I am really very happy with this. As it's reinforcement to myself of what a person can do with there is a will or a way.
Now it's time for the next goal!
This was wrote back two and a half years ago. Before multiply and ironically when I look at it now, often it tells me something.
this is very inspirational and i am so glad you re-posted it... i have never had face a challenge like the one you wrote about, but i certainly hope i can find the determination and focus that you did... thanks jack..
ReplyDeleteJen your welcome...
ReplyDeleteSometimes I go to those old writes and I look at them now in a different vantage but something does stay consistent.
We are two of a kind, aren't we? good job and keep up the self-improvement!
ReplyDeleteThat was then, and especially with the knees I still have a tad of problems as tomorrow I have a doctor's appointment as while I was working in Edmonton which was prior to probably too much training with my legs and I really did over do it - I had injections in my knees - tomorrow I find out if they need it again.
ReplyDeleteAs we age a little certain things do come up some are genetic, and some are our own making.
I thought by training I was keeping my health in balance. Now I do it in a much different manner. The shoulder was definately a choice. As I know the recovery time is some 4 months after the sugery.
I just went into that zone and did my own therapy, after that - the surgeon said that if he was me, he would not operate. The shoulder is fine.
But health matters but how we do it, is the one important thing. So I have found.
Sometimes we know better what will help our body than the doctors do. I have some disc problems in my back after a car accident several years ago. You just learn what your limitations are and work with it. A good day to you, Jack.
ReplyDeletelimitations? we don't want no stinkin' limitations! giggles....btw, did I mention BEFORE you added me that I'm a smartass?
ReplyDeleteSaw a TV program made in Japan.
ReplyDeleteThe male and female arthritics arrived in wheelchairs, crutches and walking frames.
Three months later they almost raced each other out of the place.
Bad knees? Turn your foot left or right prior to making contact.
Now you are using a new area inside the joint.
Works for me.
okay, I don't know if your friends will appreciate my humour, but.....
ReplyDeleteis that why Charlie Chaplan walked like that? :D
Bill usually the Knee joints will just plainly ache. But I will stretch them and circulation is key.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the mention!
Just seeing your humor and lol my xrays show that my left leg injury has mented and there is an order for another CTScan. But other wise I have good health!
ReplyDeleteYes.....
Charlie Chaplin was a distant realation! :)
hahahahahaha thanks for not being mad at me :D
ReplyDeleteI kinda know you Cinn and it's all good! You have a certain wit about you as you are achieving something that most would have faltered with. So there!
ReplyDeleteblows kisses in your direction
ReplyDeleteYou want to learn about pain? Work with horses for 40 years or so. (Yes, since I was a small child, there have been horses to handle. I've even worked with Kentucky's most famous, the racehorses.) Then add a small but significant problem: the inability to use arthritis or pain medications of any kind. Things get *very* interesting sometimes, and I work around the disabilities. However, I will not stop doing the things I can do, because I have full knowledge that if I stop doing, I stop being able to do. It's as simple as that. I'm an outdoor person, and I refuse to stop enjoying the things I love. I just have to do them when, where, and sometimes if I am able. :) You know the feeling very well, I'm guessing!
ReplyDeleteYes I recall that very well but not with horses!
ReplyDeleteGlad you came through that alright. Now just don't go riding any bucking broncos.
ReplyDeleteCertainly won't Karyn!
ReplyDeleteI outgrew broncs a long time ago, hehe. I prefer to out-smart 'em rather than try to beat up on something six times or more of my own size. :P
ReplyDeleteSmiling and laughing with you...
