There are always those questions for myself I never believed in the right to bare arms as many societies do have that allowance to buy a gun. That would at least isolate many of these events.
Yes, you cannot own a legal gun in Chicago. How is that working out? All of these, Cinema 9, Columbine, Fort Hood - no guns were allowed...makes for target rich environments.
What if just one or two out of 325 in Cinema 9 was armed - carnage could have been stopped.
Yes, why do governments disarm their citizens? Thank God for our 2nd Amendment
16 mass shootings within 30 years you would think something has been learned. It's not just within America where the right to bare arms exists. Secondly I was born within America and for that matter even within Canada people are killed by the black marketing of ..........guns.
It is nuts what these crazy people with weapons will do. I don't know why this sort of thing happens. Not that I condone but when it is gang violence there is more reason behind it. This is just insane. A perfectly normal guy, attacks innocent people. What ever gun violence it is, gang or otherwise, it has to stop. I say, plant flowers instead of mayhem. Take the guns, rifles and other deadly weapons off the street. Give them cameras instead. If they want they can get super powerful cameras.

Now within this world if there can be areas where we can build upwards within areas that do such marvelous things it baffles the heck out of me as to why there there can't be a handle on this. There is something to be said when a life is taken but within this case a mass killings.
Its terrible what happens when crazy people have guns. the 2nd amendment wasnt meant for killers to go around shooting innocent people. Anyone that thinks that is the crazy one.
Why don't we do something totally radical here and look at WHY this person (and other people that are involved in this type of violence), did it? Arming the population is not the answer,neither is a complete ban (which would never work,anyway).
Mental/emotional reasons are to blame here. Maybe we should try to understand the underlying emotional state of these people and do something about it.
We debate/argue the gun control issue because it's easy. We see it as a yes/no issue. No grey areas,basically. We are afraid to look at the mental/emotional makeup of another because it may reflect on our own emotional state of mind. Fixing our ills,when it comes to violence of this kind,is hard.Probably the hardest thing we have to do.
Catching people (as in seeing they have a problem and getting them the help they need) BEFORE they do this type of violence is the real answer,in my opinion.
I don't see it as radical, but my opinion on that would be (whereas America is concerned) because it's a death obsessed culture.
Also, I don't see gun control as a yes/no issue.
Based on what we know right now about this individual, it doesn't appear that any evaluation of his mental/emotional makeup would have made any difference whatsoever. What would you suggest we do, pre-screen all of society?
I am grateful I am not as messed up as some people are. My heart goes out to all those families that have lost someone they love and those that were there that night. What else can you say ? Some people you just can't understand I guess.
I tend to agree with you Marty the 2nd amendment could at least have an amendment where the types of guns are of only a certain type. Not miltary combative machines. At least this would place a hault on over 50% of guns bought within America.
Time I am sure your right but when speaking to a best friend of mine whom resides here in Canada. There are people whom fall through the cracks and within Canada there has been violence in Quebec if you recall. And right now the Hell's Angels have rode into Saskatoon.

Scott you have a point here. There is a death obsession culture - not entirely but it does exist. You would know from your own line of work. Within America or Canada we don't have a registry of society with the exception of the social security numbers in Canada - come to think of it. Which at any given time - medical or law enforcement can pull up everything about a Canadian......that was set up by Tommy Douglas years ago.
You can see this not radical as your work is within an area which I will not breach.

I have a friend which works as a SWAT TEAM negotiator. She resides in Edmonton, Alberta and we talked about this while I was living there.
I would defend those with mental illness's here. One in every two people literally can be judged as mentally ill. Not all people with an illness which is of a mental status means they are agressive. Some are actually the opposite. So let's consider that there are very good placed people within our society which would be the same as YOU AND I. The only difference is that they have handicap. The majority of those which go within a hospital don't do it out of aggressive rage.
