Rush - Tom Sawyer Live

Getty Lee and the entire lot of Rush is a group I never grew up with. This is a band which is more of an international band with a which I would dare a deep and tremendously acute within there music. The drummer has been named one of the top 10 drummers within the world by Billboard Magazine over twenty years. They write and compose there own music and it's intricate and depth full within it's meaning.

There are many thoughts as to what, "Young Tom Sawyer" lyrically meant. Yet with no doubts RUSH seems to me as being a group which is so similar....musically to U2.

It's not just within there lyrics but the content of composition is that of true studio artists which bring it all so easily to the stage.

A Young Tom Sawyer
by Rush

A modern-day warrior
Mean mean stride,
Today's Tom Sawyer
Mean mean pride.

Though his mind is not for rent,
Don't put him down as arrogant.
His reserve, a quiet defense,
Riding out the day's events.
The river

And what you say about his company
Is what you say about society.
Catch the mist, catch the myth
Catch the mystery, catch the drift.

The world is, the world is,
Love and life are deep,
Maybe as his eyes are wide.
Today's Tom Sawyer,
He gets high on you,
And the space he invades
He gets by on you.

No, his mind is not for rent
To any god or government.
Always hopeful, yet discontent,
He knows changes aren't permanent,
But change is.

And what you say about his company
Is what you say about society.
Catch the witness, catch the wit,
Catch the spirit, catch the spit.

The world is, the world is,
Love and life are deep,
Maybe as his skies are wide.

Exit the warrior,
Today's Tom Sawyer,
He gets high on you,
And the energy you trade,
He gets right on to the friction of the day.

* They have wrote and composed there own music between the four of them since day one.

  1. It is hard to paint the world and the very peoples residing on it, but in a song it becomes easy, interesting colaborations of minds there

  2. There is a depth within RUSH.....they have a fan base of there own but the lyrics and the music is that of art, not really pop.
I am not sure if Erika is on but I was in the same hotel as them when they were playing at in Toronto. The York Hotel was
right next to Maple Leafs Stadium and I remember how I opened my window and then knew it was RUSH.

  5. I'm off to bed. I will be back tomorrow to check this out fully. I didn't know there was a connection to Tom Sawyer and Rush.
It doesn't surprise me that Neil Pert is one of the ten best drummers. Yet, it might surprise Neil, as he is very tough on himself.
Neil Pert also does a lot of the lyrics. The band is awesome and it only has three band members. That is in part to Geddy Lee's high vocals and Alex Lifeson guitar combined with Neil Pert's drumming to make the big band sound.
