There is a threshold moment in some of our choices, and especially in some of our judgments about people. Sometimes that moment is experienced by a whole lot of us at once.
I note that down south, and just over the last few days, very many people are suddenly discovering that Newt Gringrich is looking really good that he’s a smart, informed and credible candidate for the Republican nomination. A few months ago, his campaign was a wreck and he was a write-off. His best handlers had departed to Perry. There were some gossipy stories he could have done without. Tales of his arrogance and poor judgment were rife. Now, this week, it’s “Can Newt carry it all the way?” Dorothy Rabinowitz, the whip sharp observer of The Wall Street Journal, writes a full column on Gingrich’s virtues.
Stupidity if you ask me, the media savvy blog which some of these politicians place out. And it just arises the same very questions as before. He’s no longer the eccentric wonk, with a loose handle on his private life, that many have seen him as since he left the Speakers’ chair in those long ago days during the fight over Bill Clinton’s impeachment. Wasn’t that a blunder? It’s the moment everyone well, a lot of people are giving Gingrich a second look, and liking what they see. I don’t see what I like as he nearly had Clinton impeached and if that as the best as they get well I might as well find what this so used word of ridiculous really means. Wake up America, wake up to that there are merits that are worth understanding rather than what we find to be of important. Important has anyone really considered that term?
There is a similar moment up here, and in our case it’s Bob Rae who is its beneficiary. Some months back his taking up the cause of the battered, ragged and demoralized Liberal party looked either to be a profound dip into the waters of masochism, or one of the few selfless acts Canadian politics has seen in a while. He once was major of Toronto yet he too has flaws. Ironic as it seems the Prime Minister coupled with Brad Wall of Saskatchewan have come to watch and learn and then understand what is and what is not important within this venue of which we call leadership.
Rae the twice passed over once for Dion, once for Ignatieff took on the arduous and wearying task. And slowly but surely, after a trip there, a speech here, a release on some issue or a statement in the Commons, any number of people are now more than willing to acknowledge that he’s the guy the Liberals need not just for this task of rebuilding, but after that. It’s hard to hear at all now the once inescapable criticism that after “ruining” Ontario Rae could never be a real national leader. Now, to be sure, Rae is gaining some of his traction by NDP default. The NDP have left the leadership of the Opposition in the hands of a Commons amateur. Almost everyone who is anyone in the NDP is on the interminable leadership trail. The clash absorbs all the attention people are giving to the party, inside the Commons or out.
The result? Bob Rae has most of the stage to him, and owns the Commons in Canada from an opposition perspective when he wants to he is much aside of all the propaganda much like former Bill Clinton, yet he still has a far ways to go, I recall meeting him while in Toronto and the image was good. Is image something, which influences our thoughts? As Prime Minister Harper sits back and as like a few leaders which came from western Canada he does not conform to appease the populous. The New Democratic Party (I am not sure why they call it new) in Canada gave an opportunity to grow, at the precise moment the Liberals were at their most vulnerable. It will be an irony for the ages if the NDP leadership contest comes to be looked at as the period the Liberals recovered.
Should Rae continue his even pace, continue to take advantage of the shelter the NDP leadership race is giving him and the party, the time may come two years out when the Liberals hold their contest that despite the assurances that he was only acting as an interim leader the rank and file will have so accustomed themselves to Rae and his way of leading, he will be the natural choice. Certainly, if there’s any virtue in the idea that people should get what they work for, Rae will have a larger claim on the Liberal leadership than anyone else. Yet much like President Obama, Prime Minister Harper just listens and observes.
For myself, sure there are areas of which Canada has to trend up with yet Harper has already created so many alliances as well as bought a new fleet of jets. He is not dumb he is admirable as for Brad Wall whom many never thought would even get to the destination of which he has rendered. With or without Bob Rae, eastern Canada shall continue in the manner that has been that which has solidified almost one nations economy to it’s very up most.
I don’t pretend to know it all, as I don’t. Yet within my province of Canada and within Canada we have waived being owned by China. No other country owns Canada. That I believe is good work on behalf of the Prime Minister of Canada. As a few countries now are literally owned by China.
Brad Wall

Nor shall we…
I never took to parties when I was asked upon my return to Canada. I have several friends, which did. Yet it’s not for the like of me. As within some caveat I would be fired within some manner. If I were within a political position, I would look to make some pact or technology where the weather was far warmer than what it is. But they never asked me. Yet they did ask my uncle whom served as Governor General in Canada.
Yet ironically the Brad has done very well as he to has listened. And never within the history of Canada would Saskatchewan be a leader within not just a province but a leader within Canada along with the federal government. We owe nothing yet.
There is something to be said within this - I do believe.
