A rather easy going day today as most often on Saturdays I love to capture something which is going on within the city. More often than not I will head out and with realizing that there are some other areas which have to be tended with. There is always something that I find of interest. As well, the days have been tremendously hot and seemingly I more enjoy the lower temperatures.
I went out as within some manner I wished to illustrate how much construction is going on here. The other night I was reading about how congested streets are now. Where I approach pulled over and asked the foreman if I could take a few pictures. The city here never sleeps right now when it comes to construction.
It’s literally the fastest growing city here in North America.
With every throughway as well as primary streets under construction. There are two more new bridges in addition to the five that have been here – with two more on the way. Now these are not improvements taking place within this city but they are new additions which are in the midst of taking place. There have been times where with many areas which are under the works where now you can’t get a picture unless you do it from a distance – with large lenses you know those Cadillac like cameras with lenses which exceed the average arm. Yet I parked my car and walked over to the foreman and was all too surprised as perhaps the head of this area which was nearly half done might just very well have been on a day off. Now there are cities which are over the size of 500,000 thousand in population but this is a city which is just over 200,000. According to statistic which I had looked up a few months ago, ironic as it is this is the fastest growing city. I have mentioned before that how this place has always been considered and place which has in always maintained a value of maintaining being a city while still having that township feel to it.
Within the people it still does maintain this but I am not sure for how long. Yet when you’re driving from one place to another on these primary arteries you do tend to go at a snail’s pace. Nearly at any time of the day for that matter even within the night as they work right around the clock. And then there is talk now of starting a subway system. Yet the forecasting on that is within the next ten years so that seeming makes sense expenditure wise. But for the most part sooner or later you do get to the destinations of which were so easy to do before. We shall see how this all works as the entire planning bye the rural and urban planners where never up on this one.
Yet it was nice to have the ability to talk with this one person which was in charge and then when he said, “Sure no problem”. I must admit I surprise I got the go ahead as more often now there is a higher level of security for a variety of reasons. I would take a guess that with all areas of construction which include roadways, buildings, the university, bridges, and expansions of commercial box stores as well as small expansions with two of six shopping centers.
Now that is allot of dollars one would hope that there was well thought out planning before this all got started. Within each and every city there is the division of the municipality which is called the Rural and Urban Planning.
Yet I have always enjoyed the manner in which you can retain historical value of any given city while graduating to a larger level with quality. Yet that is never so easily achieved.

A very pleasant observation aptly put in to words. Truly a well planned city connotes a well organized manegerial strategy. Canada seems to be the haven for all foreigners right now. It's well taken cared of.
ReplyDeleteCanada has an array of areas, I can't say I love all parts of Canada nor would wish to live there but within Canada or within Saskatoon, it's a city that most Canadians never thought come to be one which is within the progress as it is. But this is primarily due the natural resources which it has in diamonds, gold, nickel, potash, and not this year as most all farmers have lost their crops due to being declared and disaster area. Yet back twenty years Saskatchewan was thought of as being not on the map really. But it's come into it's own the one down side is the average price of a house is far more expensive than cities within the size of a million. But it's a town/city within progress.
ReplyDeleteIt is good to hear some place is growing and the economy is alive and thriving. Where I am more and more is closing and store fronts sit empty.
ReplyDeleteWhat I have learned is that ironically as like politicians some don't want to hear the progress of Canada. I don't it to be a shame that right now Canada sits very well. But Sharon there are some which think like politicians but the thing is they arent we are all inhabitants of these lands. I have read so many political blogs that when you give your perspective they dont wish to hear anything but what is not. I believe America shall come back. But I was never a politician I am just me.
ReplyDeleteIf everyone should write on one land - it would make for a SMALL WORLD.
ReplyDeleteWe all affect one another. Right now I think politicians are playing games and hurting the people who vote for them. Unfortunately, most people don't see they are being hurt. They just want to poke blame.
ReplyDeleteAs well I think some play the know it all and althoght this is a write from within my own town. Guess where 15% of the construction workers are from the good old USA.
ReplyDeleteBoth my Beloved Husband and son have careers in heavy highway construction. Both of my daughters did, too -- only in offices, not in the field. One is coordinator for state and federal Department of Transportations for her company. She travels quite a bit across Texas and Louisiana. Drive carefully!
ReplyDeleteI don't doubt that. I know a lot of construction workers are still in the Gulf Coast rebuilding after Katrina. Then in places like Southern California builders are bulldozing houses because it is cheaper to knock them down then pay the taxes while finding a buyer. My area building is really depressed. Start ups are way down, I think almost at a stand still. They are also knocking down empty stores. Some have been vacant for 2 years or more and they become a hazard. At the same time we are getting rid of a lot of old boxy buildings thrown together in the 80s. They were ugly block buildings with no character.
ReplyDeleteI remember a time where New York City (downtown) was full of all porn shops and so on and yet Rudy cleaned up the city within a period of two years.
ReplyDeleteI guess what I am getting at is although things are not great with time they shall come back. Here within Canada there is another new rise to this Quebecois where there are not all but many which don't wish to see the Canadian Flag as one which they would hang. So it's not all pefect here there was
a person on here one time from this photograph .....not going to say the name that asked me if I really believed that Quebec would ever accept the rest of Canada. I knew what she was getting at and never got a responce but I said, that if an Quebec Farmer sat down with a English well Canadian - they would have more in common than not. It was obvious to me that there was division. But my point is some people do like seperation in a variety of means.
Not all but there surely are those which feel they are over and above others. This is where I feel that hang your ego down and just write as you please. While still understanding that there are those that have and are a friend.
I shall leave it at that but I think you understand my point...
It's truly a difficult job Grammy here there has never been within the history such a fast pace of construction. One has to drive 60km in most of these places so it's like waiting to get into Disneyworld! Made ya smile but it's the truth. I love this city, I have been to so many and resided within so many that I see this as home but as well, I don't feel this world with borders. The highways within America have always been that of the best I remember driving for three days when I moved back to New York and once one got past Central Bute it's was a tremendous drive.
ReplyDeleteOh absolutely it will come back. Right now people are holding back and waiting to see what will happen. Once people regain confidence things will start to grow again. And for me seeing the horrible block buildings that were thrown up in the building frenzy being cleared is a good thing.
ReplyDeleteFOX news was saying that Canada is in much better financial shape than we Americans are
ReplyDeletethat looks impressive..its road mending and building season here too!
ReplyDeleteFor now economically Canada might be but but Tee I don't look at things as mentioned before
ReplyDeletewithin borders. As I am not a politician and it might be a while but the mentality of Canada is
better - no that certainly is not my perogative.
Carol I would not know what is happening in Ireland right now economically yet here again
ReplyDeleteis it really about which country is doing the best or the worst - I say no. But this is the fastest
growing city within Canada right now and within the history of Canada that has never been the case.
we have lots of construction going on here as well. People don't want to slow down to 60 and are often doing 70 or more in the construction areas. I know for a fact that at least one person was hit in the process. It can be very nerve racking. there's lots going on over the Zilwaukee bridge as well. We appreciate the work on the roads due to the pot holes and needing better access.
ReplyDeleteYes progress goes on within every city and after a winter (dare I mention the word) there is not that halt. Thus the streets do have names. I am not sure if your in Michigan or overseas but do wish you sucess where ever you are there Cinn.
