I would surmise that a decision is better than no decision as said before. With the situation of yesterday I completely have not been atune with what all has taken place with the Government within the United States. I left off the other evening thinking within several areas of what would happen without a decision made. I have never taken such an interest within the government to be honest. At least not within blogging. Yet if I understand this all correctly there has been a bill passed which both sides of the house have agreed upon today. Two days ago I did believe there would be a bill passed by way of 20, section 4 within the Constitution - although it's vague, the likes of Jeff Tobin of CNN and others whom study the law believed that it might very well be the one option of which Obama would have to exercise.
Yet as I understand it regardless of the pros and the cons as of August 1 there has been an agreement which has been reached by both sides of the house. I have not studied what has happened nor the short term ramifications but from what I can see at least there has been a decision of which has been made.
I don't wish to make any comments of my own with regards to this as I don't know enough as of yet but the one thing that I do believe is at least when there is a decision that two have come to make - it paves the way for the future. Now I could be jumping the gun here but seemingly to me thats a start. Rather than what could have been otherwise.
There are few that are on here that far know more than I which hail within United States but I could be jumping the gun but this at least is a start within the right direction in comparision to what I have seen.
Secondly I do wish to say thank you with regards to what took place yesterday and may these times lead United States into better days as before I was so turned off by the entire situation at hand.
I never thought that this would be something which truly was impacting me everyday. Yet there is democracy but I may very well be way off here as many have high or higher expectations but again I am truly glad that there has been some decisiveness made as of today. I emailed out several of my friends which are not on Multiply and ironically I have not heard a thing back with the exception to two people whom reside within United States. So I would gather that there is still much further to go. Yet it's good to hear some good news within this rather than the stalemate. What I was learning while I went along was by way of the sum of a few - the likes of Douglas, whom I know was probably so tired with all of this - to Will whom says it's as he thinks, and Mike. And then there were a few from other lands which as well had there own thoughts with regards to much of this.
Perhaps it's not all over but is it ever? I tend not to think so within any government for that matter. But at least today's date the democratic process still does stand for something of that in which we all have our own thoughts with.
There is no place on this earth that has perfection yet at least when there is a will there is a way even sometimes by way of a blog.
Because we live in a global economy, what affects one affects others. If the US defaulted it would have affected the entire world.
ReplyDeleteI believe so Sharon, I don't know all that entails this bill which was passed but if I remember correctly there is a vauge clause section 20, within the 4th lineage of the Constitution. Which in so many words would allow the President to exercise imperial power in making a decision, he could have waited till after with no decision made and exercised his own power as president to make a decision.
ReplyDeleteYet he opted to continue to go the bipartisan way.
I have a rather jaded view of governmental decisions and don't really expect much good nor truth will come from their actions or lip service.
ReplyDeleteAll too often the dog and pony show has deceived the foolish, leading to greater problems and burden.
Let's hope I'm wrong, it would make me happy in this case to be wrong.
The biggest leverage he has was in the 14th amendment that requires the President to pay the bills of the country. You have to realize one big piece of irony. The bills that need to be paid are the past expenses voted on by Congress. So while some are saying the deficit has to be cut, this is saying we spent too much money in the past and now when the bills are coming due we need to find someone else to blame.
ReplyDeleteJohn time tells all I believe, and I do understand where your coming from as we won't know as I still think this is within a process.
ReplyDeleteI never have wrote nor looked at so many angles within this but I know I am presumtious with this but again time does tell all.
The other side wages the same tail as well Jade, case in fact he inherited so much when he came into office. But without a disrespect
ReplyDeletefor years United States has been building this up. *The last time there was a bonafide surplus was within the time of President Clinton.
So even if one facts out the great expectations and the many withdrawals of leaders before him the case in fact is that he attempted
to find a manner along with the house back two years ago which did purge more monies but I don't know of what other leader that
could do any better given the situation. But if you look in the Constitution there is a clause very vague one in there which he
could have done things within a more forthright manner as of the likes of George W. Bush Jr.
Actually the US has been in debt since prior to the Civil War. Andrew Jackson was the last President to pay off the national debt. It has accumulated since then. It is not something new, only now the right has made it an issue. People didn't know and didn't care until they brought it up. People have no idea that since the 7th President of the US this country has accumulated debt.
ReplyDeleteWe can go back very far but I believe that the mindset of many are within these last ten plus years - yet I could be wrong.
ReplyDeleteI think the problem dates back to somewhere around 1913 with the FED owning the American money.
ReplyDeleteWith current interest rates and perhaps compounded interest the problem could no longer be hidden in the closet so to speak.
I've read a few articles on this lately and must shake my head, as it may only get worse.
What they don't understand - mostly because people are not really smart - is that this is accumulated debt of about 170 years. It has been a little over that since the money was paid off and new debt was added on top of the balance since then. We have continued to borrow money since then and not paid it off. People only know what they are told and don't bother to look into anything for themselves. So of course they think this is something new, and not something that predates the Civil War. The provisions in the 14th Amendment to mandate the President pay off debt and not default goes back to the Civil War. The north mandated that war debts from the Civil War be paid, but not the war debt of the Confederacy, since that was not part of the nation.
ReplyDeleteI myself have never been as interested within this as or recent. I like many never really dwelved into it
ReplyDeleteyet the next ten years shall be one of an awakening as this time could very well be the resolve.
Only if their is checks and balances placed within a manner of which are audited and ratified
each and every quarter.
it goes back to Andrew Jackson, he was the President against a National Bank and mandated the national debt be paid off during his administration. Since then we have continued to accumulate debt.
ReplyDeleteIn any given society there are an array of people. I don't believe the average american is dumb. I believe that the mindset of America has always
ReplyDeletebeen based on proud and that of a capitalistic economy which came to a point where it was used in ways that were primarily based on pork
and more pork by the GOP. It would be rude of me to state that half of America is dumb. As they are not. As far as history I don't claim to be a
know it all but I do know sum which includes my residency within America. Yet then it was a different time.
My opt is not that to say what the average American is that would be isolating a populous within an existential manner.
Unfortunately, polls show something very different. When asked who a state representative, county representative etc. over 70% can't answer that question. They can tell you more about Paris Hilton, then who controls their local tax revenue. Most do not know their congressman or senator. Most have never read the Constitution. Over 90% of Americans can not locate all the states on a map of the US. the American education system fails on so many aspects. It is sad.
ReplyDeletei believe that this whole thing was a show--a poorly written show at that----angry persons playing the part of educated persons without staying on script---not a farce just a ploy to distract the audience long enough --and confuse the audience long enough---and involve the audience long enough---that when the house lights came back up the audience did not understand a damn thing that happened but applauded anyway just because someone started the applause------i love my country amigo---i love the constitution----but there are those who fear freedom and equality--who disdain multicultural society----who dare not educate them self for fear of learning something----who harbour hate and hate kills.........................
ReplyDeleteReading....si. I believe within America and yes there has been much of a show with it all with the media. I know you love America I can tell just within your write and regardless I believe that it might have taken on a change or many enjoyed to present it as a change as most often when there is a super power and things go down then there are many that point fingers. Yet this can be done within any given country. But for me, I do live up here but with no doubts there is truly a patriotic side of which loves America. I have only known the east coast but even so the stars and stripes and the red white and blue do still have a meaning. One year ago I myself made a mistake and went somewhere else rather than back to the US.
ReplyDeleteThis is where words can't describe of how I feel of America from up here within Canada. But I love these lands since I was a kid.
hmmm the senate votes at noon tues. I think I will rest my thoughts until then. (partially cause i've been up since 5 am and exhausted lol. ) thanks jack, be back.........
ReplyDeleteI thank you Cinn, and I do wish you well there and do look forward to it. Yesterday I was exhausted but tonight I enjoy this not for what is not but what is.
ReplyDeleteThere is not all that much difference within societies when it really comes down to it. There are more upsides still with in this. It's all within how
we understand it. The question may be are we ready for the future - just a thought.
not entirely true :) under Pres. Clinton we were debt free till GBJr. took over
ReplyDeletePerhaps now Heidi this now brings about a new America, one which renders that of it's best.
ReplyDeleteWhile there is no doubts that there shall be that word of which we held so highly called, HOPE.
Mind you hope like any other economy does come with something new. Something which we
took for granted while seemingly during the term of Clinton there may have been areas of which
were not perfect but it was an era whereby there was not as much thought given to every move.
Even when we watched elections with even Ross Perot - we enjoyed the times without the thought
of anything but just life itself.
I don't believe that poll shows "the average american is dumb", but it does show that the average American doesn't have an interest in who governs them. Close to half of that 70% who cannot name their representative voted. That's scary. The number of people who think sending out e-mails to their entire mailing list will accomplish change is scary, too. No poll to back it up, but I think a very, very small percentage consider, much less write, their representatives with an opinion. Interaction with the government is an education of its own and more should attend that school. You are probably right on about the Constitution being read. I have a small book on an end table in my living room and have yet to be asked about it. My great-grands get introduced to it here, at the very least.
ReplyDeleteYou are not correct. The National debt under Clinton was about 4.4 Trillion and rose to about 5.8 trillion when Clinton left office.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.treasurydirect.gov/govt/reports/pd/histdebt/histdebt.htm - look here and see the historical data to the penny.
This is what I am talking about. People have no idea of the lies they are told and they don't check things for themselves. People have to start to understand that keeping the population ignorant is the best for of slavery. As long as we are not educated, we will do their bidding.
WOW NEED TO LOOK THAT ONE UP --
ReplyDeleteYOU CANNOT INCLUDE THINGS FROM THE CIVIL WAR ETC.sorry about the capitols
these are not lies people shouldn't listen to the tea party and the gop
The fact is though that the National debt has been in existence since the 1720's. While Jackson did pay off the debt at the end of his term there was 336,957.83. That was in 1837. The start of the Civil War took us over the 1,000,000,000 mark and was 2,680,000,000 by the end of the war. Reconstruction took us over 3,000,000,000
ReplyDeleteFinally now they can get on with improving their shattered economy.
