There are two noteworthy days which come every year that of the 1st and that of the 2nd. Some dates are worthy as they do remind render a meaning within - History.

Canada Day comes July 1st - What Canada Means to Me

Picture 148

What Canada means to me is the vastness of the land. Second from China Canada is a land that from Newfoundland which is on the Atlantic to the North Islands of that border the Pacific. From each province within a land, mass Canada retains the largest natural resources within the world. Having been within each province within this era of time, Canada is no longer a frontier within its inception Canada is a country, which came to be by the roots of its heritage with the crown. Even though Canada is a young country with came into being in 1880’s. From those whom here on the lands from times long ago, to that of every person seemingly not taking Canada too serious.

From the east to the west and from the south to the very north Canada envelopes a nation of many cultures as well was that of the first of many innovations.  Canada has come to being a country, which never has lead – more so on of that of people whom think before they speak. The symbolic flag of Canada changed within the sixties to that of red and white with a maple leaf within the middle. At this time it was symbolic and within order of what a leader thought to be appropriate within the times of which he was a leader. As there came to be a change and transition within that time. As with every country, Canada is people. From one corner of the country, there is an array of different accents as well as traditions. To know Canada is to understand Canada. As within the land there spans a fabric of many different accents as well as many different people. Segregation within the nation of Canada has never been a predominant area. Even the Spanish had not only fled into parts of United States they had small colonies within British Columbia.

I thought I would share some historical pinpoints on as we are coming into what is Canada's Birthday. Canada shall be 144 years of age come July 1st. I thought I would share some points on Canada. As within history, Canada has played a silent yet well respected role within this world.

1.      The leader whom introduced universal health care around the world was a man by the name of Tommy Douglas – which so long ago he thought that each person within the land should have health care. There is some merit within what he brought about as for years it’s been a basis of which most other countries have looked upon as a basis from which to form their own medical system. The very first cancer treatment for Cancer by way of technology was by way of Tommy Douglas. It was called the cobalt radiation machine.

2.      Sir John A. MacDonald brought about the very first Trans Continental Railway.

3.      The Hudson’s Bay Company is the world’s largest chartered trading company, which was a primary means for many in immigrating to Canada. The commodity that brought most all immigrants within that time in history was for the trading of fur.

4.      Canada has three oceans, which border her shores – the Atlantic, Pacific, and the Arctic Ocean.

5.      Canada was the first country within the industrialize nations of countries to appoint a woman as Prime Minister by the name of Campbell in 1993.

6.      The Canadian national anthem was wrote by Calixa Lavallee from Prince Edward Island, Canada.

7.      Canada is apart of the voluntary association of countries that used to belong to the British Empire of which was called the Common Wealth countries.

8.      Lester B. Pearson, former Prime Minister of Canada was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize 1956 for the creation of what is known as the United Nations.

9.      Canada’s constitutional slogan encompasses three words, which are peace, order and good government.

10.  Newfoundland was the last province to become a part of Canada. Ironically, Newfoundland came out of confederacy and became a part of Canada much faster as ironically they wished to have the declaration before April 1, which is April Fool’s day.

11.  The Underground Railway was a passage during American slavery for slaves to seek freedom.

12.  During all the wars Canada has played a role even that of the Vietnam war which 30,000 thousand specialized troops had went in as a silent participant.

13.  What is known as the Sioux Nation fled into Canada as long as they would place their guns down after the death of General Custard. From that, date in history native or aboriginal people retained humanitarian rights. The native people of Canada have been declared and seen within the origins of Canada.  Many names of towns and cities of Canada are rooted by way of native origins.

14.  Nova Scotia was the 16th colony within the origins of what would come to be America. George Washington banked by way of the first bank in Canada called the Bank of Nova Scotia.

15.  The Credit Union banking systems beginnings began in Western Canada.

16.  Alexander G. Bell emigrated from Scotland to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada where he invented the telephone. In later years, he lived in Canada and the United States.

17.  Within the inception of Canada, the laws within the land include that there is no right to bare arms. This still stands to this very day.

18.  Basketball and Lacrosse were invented in Eastern Canada.

19.  Canada’s first post office was established in 1755. The deputy postmaster general was an American thinker and revolutionary by the name of Benjamin Franklin.

The one that point the finger not necessarily knows why he has pointed before conferencing. I hope that all out there who I regards as friends are so...as I am not into defamation of character. Tomorrow is a new day. Mikey I have kept you on my blog as I don't have any malice against you. Yet you rendered many opinions from people whom don't know me. It's a pity lad. http://mickeyfez.multiply.com/journal/item/1219/this_ones_for_Jack_but_open_to_all_comers?replies_read=20 This was not with reason but my hopes are that you have not defamed someone that literally has no ill will against you.

Life Goes On...

Of The Day (2)

Unfortunately, I had a mishap with a friend of which I do deem of worth. I am not into that gossip areas where there are things which are undermined and as like most we all have choices as to what we read. I could come up with an excuse for what I write but what I write I enjoy to write. It's a variety. Perhaps my intention in making a comment on one persons blog was taken the wrong way.

I am not into that drama. I never was and I enjoy what I write as well as when I arrived home or pending the time that I am on I do enjoy it. This blog of mine is merely me. I enjoy writing things of which are of which I write. Everyone as well does the very same. So within my own defence before this is taken the wrong way by some. I write that of what I enjoy.

I don't have great expectations but I do enjoy the feedback that comes but as the last week has went I have truly been busy. So I hope those of you whom wish to know I don't negate people yet those whom I deem as friends I will make a mention but as I arrived home I found that something was taken the wrong way. There after within the persons blog which was addressed to me - it came to being address to many not something sent to me. I think there is a difference there but the negatives are not something of which I pay too much attention too as this is a platform of which is of many things I find.

Of recent I have not had as much time on here to write as much as I would like too but in arriving home the one thing I have learned is that one writes for themselves. There is no need to go any further as the manner that I have always seen it is there are an array of people and what you do and how you blog is that of your very own.

Yet the merits of writing are based on what one wishes to write about as this is a platform to be enjoy by way of expression, thoughts, and so many other things. So in very plain words I enjoy this. And I enjoy those of which I do respect and in many ways for myself it's a reflection of life and what goes on within life. My previous blogs were that of the jazz festival which has been going on here, there after coupled with a few tweets which I like to see as a quotation which leads into a write.

With all that said, as Robert Frost once said, "In Three Words I can sum up everything I've learned about life. It goes on".

I hope that places matters to Rest

In three words I can sum up everything I've learned About Life. ~ It Goes On ~ Robert Frost

Awake early within the morning and I bet you never knew the true story of this Gene Simmons. Yeah he does have this reality show and as well he has this band named KISS along with fellow musician Paul Stanley. Last night I watched this new season episode just by chance. I never thought I would see Gene actually talking about his past as most see the man as being one of the likes of Donald Trump or those of which believe they are above the law. Simmons is Hungarian as well he is jewish. When I watched last nights story it reminded me of a man I knew here in Edmonton Alberta which had made it throught the camps his name was Peter Norris. I love music but Gene is much different to that of what we see on television or typecast as a rock legend. He came to America and the story he tells of his mother's passage from the camps to be able to get to America was something that I had known about but never seen it spoken about. I am partially Hungarian by way of my mothers side. What I loved within this show was the story of the man which created a foundation not based on color or creed. A very touching show of last night and if you wish I think you might be surprised with this side of Gene Simmons. Here is the link: http://youtu.be/vkgDAZanDVQ At the very end, the person whom Utubed this went into another area for the last 30 seconds. However, aside of that it's a decent story of a son and his mother who triumphed and as well I love the thought of Anne Franks' father - as he lost his entire family but wished to have a foundation of sorts which is not for just one faith, nor colour or creed. I have met Shannon's mother here in town as well - I am still waiting for a call back with respect to meeting Gene since he flys here with Shannon and family nearly every quarter to visit Shannons mother. But the story is that which I truly found profound.

Music does have that sensational twist of which renders the soul like a beat to a drum, to the notation of the bass. The elements of sound seemingly render the flow. Every moment within your life there is a sound - that of which is the rhythm of the path in which we lead.

Strike that Beat & Allow that Rhythm

The Shake till the next time

In having met Michael Foster of the "Dirty Dozen Brass Band". They are a combination of funky jazz. We talked for a little and the situation within New Orleans. It's rather neat when you have the chance to speak with musicians for that matter anyone that is within the entertainment area. I certainly would have liked to meet Macy Gray as I think she is something. Maybe it's within her music and for that matter within the music of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band it's a funky thing more than just Jazz.

Yet it's music and despite rain and all so many entertainers as such have the privy to see places around the world. In speaking with a friend of mine, we got going on all the places of which we had been. We are not that of which feel we are old. We exchanged some thoughts of the past as well as well of that of recent and most of all the good things. It's rather neat within a lack of words but the manner of which I see it is strike that beat and has that rhythm.

It's a small world and yet it can be a funky one. Music does make it and I literally enjoy those of which I have met and had the privy in doing things with. What I find within the music of bands which have that soulfulness about them is that they are too busy having good fun within the music.

Maybe sometimes we get all too complicated within our lives. Each person has a different vantage yet within each day we do have our very own notations of which we do strike out own very BEAT. Perhaps it's a rhythm of sorts much like that of a bass, trombone or for that matter a saxophone. On the other hand, even upon a drum. Life is much like the music of which we stride along within our lives.

All within a style of which is your very own.

Let it Flow...

The Annual Jazz Festival - Local Jazz Band Video One.avi

The Daytime festivities of this week’s Jazz festival, which take part with local jazz performers/bands. It's part of what takes place within this entire week. There is an ever growing area within the music world here and yet at the same time - there are many which just do it for enjoyment.

From Sunday, this was one of many bands, which are local - yet they are well accomplished within this area of Jazz.

By the end of the 1940s, the nervous energy and tension of bebop was replaced with a tendency towards calm and smoothness, with the sounds of cool jazz, which favored long, linear melodic lines. It emerged in New York City, because of the mixture of the styles of predominantly white jazz musicians and black bebop musicians, and it dominated jazz in the first half of the 1950s. The starting point were a series of singles on Capitol Records in 1949 and 1950 led by acclaimed trumpeter Miles Davis, really created what we know today as being Cool Jazz.
Cool jazz later became strongly identified with the West Coast jazz scene. Yet it also came well into being within Europe. Yet the influence stretches from an array of Jazz modals but most of all it's a cool Jazz of which renders the old and new within a Jazzy manner.

Jazz has always been predominantly influence. However, if you’re within music you feel the music rather than pay too much attention to this history of where it came from, as it’s just Jazzy.

It's as all music is a manner of a free flow coupled with what I have always thought of as a bass guitar coupled with the rhythm of the drums.

Jazz has never been intense it's been smooth from it's very beginnings. Jazz for myself is truly a render of instruments that if you will lead into some sort of song. I often thought of Ray Charles as being one within Jazz but that was more within what is known as the Blues.

Yet again, music is the feed that renders expression.

Late to Bed but early to Rise - a great week to one and all.

Seven Minutes of Film Footage equates to History with Worth

The only surviving copy of the 1916 film named, "Zepped", starring Charlie Chaplin and showing scenes of a Zeppelin raid over London, is due to be sold this coming week by Bonham’s which is an entertainment auction. As it goes to auction on June 29th. The film is merely seven minutes long and recorded on extremely fragile 35mm film.

The film was created within the intention of being sent to the troops in Egypt during the First World War with a purpose of being that of a morale booster. The idea was to defuse the terror inspired by the frequent Zeppelin bombing raids over London during the First World War.  Although scholars disagree as to whether the images of the Zeppelin are real, the film features some of the earliest known animation in film history.

Morace Park, bought the film enclosed in a battered cinema reel tin from an online auction site in 2009. Within this old reel of film the owner Morace Park never knew what he had purchased yet after many meetings and observations of the film by experts in Europe and the United States, it now has became obvious that "Zepped" is indeed a rare gem of history. With the famous, Charlie Chaplin had starred in. Yet it went into the vault and never came to be recognized until recently. Up to this point in time, this film, which starred the Chaplin, has never been seen before.

The British Board of Film Classification classified and archived the film in 1917. The last known reference to the film is an advertisement in the publication Manchester Film Renter.  A footnote in the records shows that the film was given an export license. The beginning of the film also features censorship frames indicating its primary purpose however even Chaplin may never have known that this film was placed away within the archives.   The thought is that Chaplin may never have known that it the production ever came to be. For that matter, he didn’t even know of its existence.

Now that is worth something. It’s not only a piece of history that I would bet seven minutes of old footage render a great gain in a monetary manner as well as a historical clipping from the past.

The Annual Jazz Festival

Every year at this time, the city’s jazz festival takes place. Since its inception, the sponsors along with the volunteers all plan for week of jazz which made up of local musicians as well as notable jazz musicians. From dusk until dawn within the city, there are performances that take place. I am one whom loves music and within this kind of atmosphere. I enjoy music as well as all that goes on with it. I have always maintained that music makes the world go around. Mind you, there is something soulful within jazz. Perhaps it's the rhythm which is smooth and within a way which renders not so much words but more so within the style of the notations.

The music is smooth yet with a zip within a manner that is all onto its own. Jazz is very rootsy if you ask me. And when you have, the likes of Macy Grey coupled within the daytime local performers the city glides within the tones and vibes during this weekend to the next.

The Annual Jazz Festival - Video.avi

It’s something in which local and some good musicians come to play and for people to enjoy at this time this year. Colin James is one of many that shall be playing tonight mind you the weather went from nice to then hail. But this was part and parcel of my day today as the entourage were getting things within order for what was to be tonight’s performance.

Colin is one of many that shall be performing here along with some other jazz performers. When this day comes, you know its summer. This was a byte of the backup crew.

The entire array of performers are made up this year are comprised of Jazz performers of the likes of Macy Gray, The Braids, Aaron Neville, The Sheepdogs, Arrested Development & De La Soul and many other. A tradition where volunteers place together a tremendous orchestration of local and international jazz performers. I am not sure how well this audio came out on this but it's really a time where the vibes come alive all week long. Which lead into July 1st.

The Merits within Words

The history of Saint Jean Baptiste Day is rooted in two separate traditions. Originally, this was a Christian holiday based on the feast of St. John the Baptist, which was in turn appropriated from pagan rituals that celebrated the summer solstice.

When French settlers first came to Quebec, they brought the holiday with them.  It wasn’t until the early 1800’s, however, that this special day began to take on a more important meaning for residents of Quebec. Impressed by the strong pride of the Irish community surrounding St. Patrick’s Day, several community leaders in Montreal decided that it would be in the best interest of French Canadians to have a day that they too could attach to their history and culture. Over the course of the next few decades, June 24 would be celebrated with a mixture of both religious and cultural undertones, but it wasn’t until 1925 that it would become an official holiday according to the provincial government. The holiday acquired a political character in the 1960’s, when it was used as a rallying date for the sovereignty movement.  I personally was never for an idea that within Canada there was a desire to be proclaimed as a society that opts to be a nation within a nation. In 1977, the 24th of June was given the secondary title of ‘La Fete National’ (the national holiday), by then-Lieutenant Governor Hugues Lapointe.

This move was controversial because it appeared to legitimize the politicization of the holiday. The religious aspect of the holiday has also gradually been eliminated in favor of a feeling of provincial pride. Rather than seeking to be a nation.

Yet that was then and now. For the most part and after a federal election which took place not too long ago there is a new trend within the province of Quebec. They are distinct yet they are Canadians. There are more than 29 languages spoken within Canada. In addition, there still is a little dissention but seemingly, the country does get through it all.

The manner that I view things are within my own and I as well as many have their own prerogatives but if there is one thing within blogging here on multiply and after reading a friends page. I do believe there can be a good will. Yet it all comes down to the ability to have an open dialogue. I find that there are a few that just say it frankly the way it is with certain matters.

When I just logged on here, I wrote on one friends blog that included a few others of which I find are very interesting as far as what is going on with the nation of United States. I am fond of the USA yet at the same time, I do love Canada. For that matter, I love and enjoy writing on several areas.  As the old saying goes be free to say as you wish. As well, debates are different from arguments. Arguments are counterproductive where as debates or differing thoughts are something of which I find that I render much more from the array of thoughts of my own. Don’t get me wrong as I just finished doing a write outside of blogs on a man by the name of Conrad Black. Yet even within that area, it was not grudges it was people writing their viewpoints.

Therefore, every country does have problems. The merit is in where we can take problems and resolve them. An array of people from all corners of the world. I truly believe in interactive countries and cultures. As well, I wished to thank all that partook on the poll had done. And it's a small world afterall where we all reside on this very earth from all corners of the Globe.

“Elevate don’t Segregate no Mediate but love your Mate”

Thank god, it’s the weekend as the weather has been fine. As well, I hope everyone else is as I enjoy the array of thoughts and the reason for that is that it’s a multitude of areas from which to bite into and enjoy with the mind’s eye.

Within our worlds - we look for better days and better ways.

~ Question within the Times ~

What do you believe your government's top priority should be right now during these times?

What do you believe a countries government’s top priority should be right now? This shall remain confidential. I have always carried these out within a manner whereby it has respect, confidentiality. I am curious to see what the consensus is not by name but more so by numerical values. In advance, I do thank you. I hope you have the time.  As this gives some render of the thoughts of many from different perspectives. A variation of thoughts.

Once again - even I don't see anyones thoughts and I appreciate your contribution. It's truly done with good intentions and with some integrity.

Sincerely,

Jack

* If you wish to expand within your own way by all means feel free to do so but this is merely thoughts of which and that of what one need not go any further than just partaking within a small poll. I place a picture of the flags of two countries that I took one week ago but this is open a think tank if you will.

~ Pass Me a Banana Please ~

Flipping through the channels the other night, I came across an old Tarzan movie in black & white.  I believe it was called, "Tarzan Escapes" starring Johnny Weismuller, former Olympic gold medal swimmer. I started wondering how many actors have played Tarzan so I looked it up.  The first guy to play Edgar Rice Burroughs's jungle king was Elmo Lincoln in two silent films in 1918.  New York Firefighter Gene Pollar starred in one movie in 1920.  Then next came, James Pierce, who married Burroughs's daughter and had one movie as the ape man in 1927.  A guy named Frank Merrill followed with three movies in 1928 to 1929.

Then Johnny Weissmuller took over in the 30's and made those twelve movies as Tarzan before switching to become "Jungle Jim" for 13 movies.  I should mention Buster Crabbe who played Tarzan in 1933 once before becoming "Flash Gordon" for which he is more remembered. In addition, Herman Dix made two movies as Tarzan in the 1930's and Glen Morris made one. Lex Barker made five movies as Tarzan between 1949 and 1953.

Then we come to a guy many believe was the best movie Tarzan, Gordon Scott, who starred as the ape man six times between 1955 and 1960. Jock Mahoney took over the role for two films in the early 60's and was followed by ex pro football linebacker Mike Henry for three movies. Myles O'Keefe played Tarzan to Bo Derek's Jane in 1981's "Tarzan of the Apes".

Christopher Lambert starred in "Greystoke" in 1984, a movie thought to be closest to the real story conceived by Edgar Rice Burroughs. Finally, Casper Van Dien starred in 1998's Tarzan and the Lost City.  TV Tarzans include Ron Ely between 1966 to 1970, Joe Lara in a 1989 CBS Television movie and one, 22 episode seasons, and Canadian born Wolf Larsen was Tarzan for three seasons. A guy named Travis Fimmel had a short eight episode run as Tarzan on Television in 2003.  There you go.

That's many ape men if you ask me.

And speaking of Apes...:

Now this Ape certainly does know how to dance.

The Training of an Arabian Horse within it's first year of Age.avi

I was able to render a short video from these stables and it was a trainer from Spain whom was in the midst of training a young nearly one year old Arabian. These horses are definitely investments mind you they are treated with that TLC.

The Rise of a World Class Breeder

Within ten years, since Murray and Shirley started breeding Arabian horses their farm has grown from modest beginnings into a virtual magnet for Arabian trainers and agents from all over the world. It's all about the right horses, and understanding the cohesive part of the infrastructure of this hobby, sport, and game.
What is the big attraction? What makes people travel to here from all corner of the world? It's not magic, but it may as well be. There beginnings started with purchasing well bred national award winning horses of the Arabian category by the name of Rae Dawn. Since then they have continued with the same objectives to this very day.
Much in the same manner that my cousin carries out with his Clydesdales. However, my cousin is not the first generation of breeders of Clydesdales. For Delvin, he started with working along with his father within the 70’s and carried out with the family tradition in a different course – yet he is one of the main breeders which as well is well recognized throughout the world with Clydesdales. Yet here as well, it’s that percentage of quality and creating an impression by way of passion, which have allowed him as well as Murray and Shirley to render the results of being known throughout the world within this area.

It's not about the most money, more about the dedication and passion.
Upon the nurturing of ten years, they named their stables after one horse that rendered them an excellent entity. That of Rae Dawn Arabians. In given the allowance and speaking with Shirley, I had been to their acreage before. It was nice to just arrive back and render a few pictures.

As the stables are kindled with good people, coupled with an infrastructure that I have yet to see anything which comes close to it.

Father's Day Tribute with Honor

My father rooted me within the ideals of thinking within your own manner yet never passing judgment unless it had a reason for it. I fondly remember as a child when he would give me these certain things to think about within my youth. A truly wise man, which many often confided with within in his work and outside of work. Having being raised within a small town in western Canada to then rising up ranks within the air force he literally embellished his work while at the same time ensuring that the family was set within a good pathway. How often he would exchange with me areas of which literally surpassed most any books I have read to this point within my life.  Having an older brother and sister, I arrived at the time where he had decided to move forward into an area within the Canadian government whereby he was appointed within a diplomatic status.  Yes, he thrived on his work and those that surrounded him.

On his days off it was that luxury of spending time with my mother. For that matter it was with the family as well – pending what was happening. I recall the days where we he would have me sit down and throw me a few questions. Some of which were based on morality. I guess he was grooming me within those youthful years. Some of which still stand with me to this very day.

I know that we all can be very biased when it comes to family. Yet that said, he influenced me and then by the time I was within my teens. Rather than being as conservative as with my older brother – he gave me the allowance to figure things out as well as earn my own way. As he was of the nature that you make it on your own and you deal with things within your own way. I guess I was had been shaped or what we call brought up.

Within later years, we would always call on the horn pending where I was just to see how I was doing. It never made me feel that I had to meet up to his expectations. Anything but - yet it was obvious that he was interested to see what I was doing.  As I had my own - which he came to realize by the time I was within my early twenties. As he retired and returned into Canada. In my formative years, I was curious as can be. I would ask questions and I never knew a man that had read so many books. Within later years, he was always there when and if, I had a question. For the most part, he would leave me with no answer but a few things to think on.

He was hit with cancer and it nearly took his life back some ten years ago now. Yet he has carried on. If there is one thing, which does apply within this fathers’ day is that we have an understanding. One of which we do speak at times on. But most of all I see my father as doing tremendous things within his years – coupled with ensuring that there was some validity of how the family was doing and would do within future years.  The other night I read something about fear. It’s obvious that there are some merits in characteristics, which came by way of my upbringing between him and my mother.  I think most of all what I have appreciated from my father the most is to be thoughtful, to understand that there are merits within abiding by some codes or moralities.

I myself have been married but thank god, I didn’t have any children. Don’t get me wrong here but I could never be a deadbeat father. I guess that just come with morals. Therefore, as I am divorced, but have had some very nice women come into my life. I look at the manner that my father’s relationship with my mother – coupled with the people that they have known for years from a variety of places. I met him today and we all had a good talk and although age and cancer have taken a toll on him. Still to this very day there is something within him, which does maintain that mannerism of which still to this day he keeps in touch with most all of his old colleagues. The greatest attributes that I believe that I learned from my father was due diligence as well as a moral code. There are areas within history of which my father has played an intrinsic part with, yet while being brought up, he never missed a thing as a father. To this day when I ask him any question on international affairs he can reference it back in time as well as indicated logically what he thinks.

The man has smarts and through all these years, I am very proud to say that he is my father.

Met with my Dad and it was fine especially on this day we call Father's Day. Sometimes what is understood need not be discussed.

“Act the way you'd like to be and soon you'll be the way you act.” ~ Leonard Cohen

Buffy Sainte-Marie.avi

This was rather short as it was when I had just arrived into the lecture hall and there were many ideals of which she spoke. Within the time, span that I had there were a few things that she was talking about within her life experiences. Although I was not able to catch it, all there was one term she spoke about it was within the ideals of ranks of people within life. It seemed to stick with me as she said that she never believed that anyone within her experience had what we call a rank. I believe her main message was within doing what she had done she believed that all people are equal.

Within My Excursion Today - I Kid You Not.

Picture 047

Buffy Sainte-Marie (thank you Colin) was a graduating college senior in 1962 and hit the ground running in the early Sixties, after the beatniks and before the hippies. All alone, she toured North America's colleges, reservations and concert halls, meeting both huge acclaim and huge misperception from audiences and record companies who expected Pocahontas in fringes, and instead were both entertained and educated with their initial dose of Native American reality in the first person.

By age 24, Buffy Sainte-Marie had appeared all over Europe, Canada, Australia and Asia, receiving honors, medals and awards, which continue to this day. Her song "Until It's Time for You to Go” was recorded by Elvis and Barbra and Cher, and her Universal Soldier became the anthem of the peace movement. For her very first album, she was voted Billboard's Best New Artist.

She disappeared suddenly from the mainstream American airwaves during the Lyndon Johnson years. Unknown to her, as part of a blacklist which affected Eartha Kitt, Taj Mahal and a host of other outspoken performers, her name was included on White House stationery as among those whose music "deserved to be suppressed", and radio airplay disappeared. Invited onto television talk shows because of her success with Until It's Time for You to Go, she was told that Native issues and the peace movement had become unfashionable and to limit her comments to celebrity chat. The next presidential administration, that of Richard Nixon, also came down hard on her, as this was the time of Wounded Knee.

In Indian country and abroad, however, her fame only grew. Denied an adult television audience in the U.S., in 1975 she joined the cast of Sesame Street for five years. She continued to appear at countless grassroots concerts, AIM (American Indian Movement) events and other activist benefits in Canada and the U.S. She made 18 albums of her music, three of her own television specials, scored movies, garnered international acclaim, helped to found Canada's Music of Aboriginal Canada JUNO category, raised a son, earned a Ph.D. in Fine Arts, taught Digital Music as adjunct professor at several colleges, and won an Academy Award Oscar and a Golden Globe Award for the song,"Up Where We Belong".

Ironically, within part of my day I met her, here today as she was while she was doing a guest speaking engagement.  Which I truly didn’t know what was happening within at the university and I caught her right at the tail end. I caught the tail end of her talk and it was something as I new she was an activist of sorts and upon seeing her. Rather neat it was and least expected.

Who was the legendary Native American who was very popular within the 60's and 70’s? I am baffled and it was something saint Marie...there is a reason I ask.

Right now I am setting up a network from my main frame to my laptop - wish me luck.

A Census Agglomeration, or CA, to a Census Metropolitan Area, or CMA.

When you talk about population it is important to know whether you are referring to how many people are inside the city limits or what we could call the Greater Saskatoon area.

As the 20th century began the city was home to about 300 people. Three decades later at the start of the dirty 30's the population of this city had grown to over 43,000.

At the start of the baby boom in 1946 there were 46,000 inhabitants and that grew over 20 years into the mid 60's to 115,000. By the mid 70's we hovered around the 134,000 mark and by 1986, the year we surpassed the capital city of the province known as Regina. Saskatoon became Saskatchewan's largest city, we were close to 178,000.

Jump ahead to 2006, 5 years ago, and we were at 208,000. The city provides population updates twice each year and on Dec 31, 2010 we were at 224,300. The next estimate will be in a couple of weeks on June 30.

I don't have a sharp point to all this except it's interesting to see how fast we are growing. At this rate we'll be at a quarter of a million before we can blink an eye and don't bet against reaching 150,000 in the next five years. And, I'm talking about just the city, not the CMA which includes all the so called bedroom communities within a half hour or so drive.

Hold on to your hats because the evolution continues from small prairie city to big metropolis.

I Must Say

For the last hour I have almost finished of one of two networks and at this point within the game on a Friday where we are getting harsh storm weather I opted to get a few things done. Yet they are not all finished and this is a work. There is that one side of you that gets into that mode of computers and setting things up and then there is that humanistic quality of writing. I have not been getting around as much as come the evening this is allot of work so rather than anything more with computing I thought I would just extend a wish to each and everyone. The weather here has been much like a hurricane just within the last two hours it went from a swell day to rain and wind gusts like I have never seen.
So I thought I would place on a picture of art I took it while I was visiting a friend yesterday.

To A Decent Gent - Happy Birthday Mickey!

I thought since its one person's birthday and as well I had my mother's birthday last night I would place in this old typed joke that I found within the vault!  This was one something I had been looking all over for.  Mickey your not growing ahead (for that matter your not growing another head) - what I do mean is that your evolving further.

~ Happy Birthday Mickey ~

It's your birthday and I thought it was appropriate and I do hope that it gives you a good laugh.  Once again, I wish you a most enjoyable, peaceful, birthday Mickey.

Renditions with no Designation

I have been off here for the most part, as I had computer problems. There are some of the renders, which I placed within no designated manner. From a car finally being fixed to high waters of the kind that we have never seen within these parts. To many other areas which would include the water levels which are here.

I thought I would share these as a compilation. I do have to find a manner of which to take the time and come to understand how one can place a few pictures on within the very same page.

Yet for now, I chose to place these within this order. As there are no absolutes
just a mere thread.

Weekend Question: If I may what does the word - HOPE equate for you is there meaning within it? Or does it have no meaning what so ever?

Sometimes it's nicer to read than to blog

There is not all that much news on this side. As I still await for this car to be done but it's been a day of just doing this and that around the house as well as inspiration. I shall be entirely honest with you I have been bored out of my head. There are sometimes where there isn't much to write on. When that happens it's enjoyable to read around. So I shall see if there is something from which to write on as sometimes something can be forced and then there are times you just log on and see whats all happening around with others. So one day of doing things but really I have been entirely bored. But it's interesting to write what others have wrote or are writing. Some times there is that time out with blogging. I don't see the point to just write for the sake of writing.

Well Not much on this end as it's been a staycation for most of the day.

Just A Day Summary within Thursday

Was a fined day today. The weather is slowly climbing up here and the temperatures are increasing and all in all it was good I did here from my half brother and look forward to seeing some pictures which I shall place on when I get them. I have been doing this cadence thing while I carry my camera within my pocket.
The weather has improved and with that the cadence as well. We are not within the high temperatures yet but we are within that area of what is around 24c/75f area and for this time of year that is actually good.
Over and above this there is not much to say other that I am just doing my own thing and it's good. The days are progressive in more ways than one and I literally am enjoying it for just what it is.
That is aside of the mail strike, which might take place across Canada. Yet unions seemingly always do settle - I am not sure if that is a good thing or other wise. I guess one would have to look further into it and I have already set up encryptions with my email if they do. So all in all it's just been a very simplistic yet good day.
The unfortunate thing is that my car's ignition switch has gone and the dealer can't get the part till Monday but so be it.

Thought it was worth the mention that there are some tracking cookies via UTube that are going around as I noticed after a scan - unfortunately...

This Stayed with Me

This one song which I listened to this morning I found most interesting as the blend was that of something with most often I am not for remakes of music. But this song originally done by The Police, which was probably one of there finest songs. Now and there there are songs that stick within you mind. Upon arriving home this was one of them. For me it's the first that I have heard this remake of this song and all in all the remake it's one that is not original but it's almost better than the first within the manner that it was - "Mixed". Thanks Ian as that was a first within hearing the song within the manner that it was redone.

~ Looking Up within the Skies ~

Part and Pacel (10)

Looking Up within the Skies

For they were the heavens and this earth

While the flow of nature

Seemingly proceeded

One cloud seemingly moved within a way

Was it telling me something

Or was it mere imagery

This one cloud seemed to stand out

Elegantly resonating its illumination

Yet it was silent

Just for that moment

As all seemingly came to a halt

Perhaps this was a passage of some kind

A connection of sorts with brilliance

Making that connection within my mind

Just within that moment

There was a render of a thought

Thoughts which proceeded

Within cadence which I subscribed

Proceeds of that interconnected

In such a brilliant manner

All within a springs moment

There was the elegance

With a significance

Within that very moment

As then we both moved on

But for that moment came the stillness

A render of some significance

As within the skies

I came to a still with the beauty

Within the skies

There was something I came to realize

I have to do some catching up please do allow me some time and may your week be that of value.

A Long Time Ago When the Earth Was Green

Some time back before I had left to go work in Edmonton some four years back – I had a brother that came on the scene.  It was a time which I was working towards making a move.  I had spent half of every day tending to my father as he had several relapses with cancer.

Within this time back then I remember being the first within the family to be called and I went over and my father was better back then from a cognitive perspective.  As he had went through his sixth mini stroke and who arrived on the scene was a surprise to say the least.  Here stood a man that looked almost exactly like my father.  My father had me come to another room and he started to explain of a person – while for myself, I thought he was going into another stroke but then here there was a person whom I met for the first time.  His name was Terri, as he introduced himself.  Upon a handshake, there was something about him the manner that he looked as he looked so much like my father within his earlier days.  Even when it comes down to weight, height and to some extent even within his speech.  Back then, I remember sitting down and listening and then I knew where things stood.  My father had had a son prior to getting married.  Now within the family if there ever was a secret this is probably was the best kept secret.  My concern was that this was not something new to my mother – which later on I understood that she knew of this before they were married – that is that my father had a child prior to being married.  As back then and even now, I am the medical next of kin as well as executor of the family will.  I didn’t ask to be.  I am the youngest and for some reason it was decided it would be me.  Terri was a question.  He was a very nice person as well as his two year relationship within this gal.  But what came to my mind and in the following days with my brother – was that why did Terri decide to come on the scene at this point within my father’s life.  The question was with regards to monies coupled with several other things.  As his two year girlfriend was not his wife.  And many times, she had tried to make contact with me.  Where upon discussing it all with my older brother whom was as well taken by surprise – we both felt that it was good to maintain communication yet give things some time to see what the intention was.  There are merits in doing things like this as when one arrives on the scene within his early 50’s.  There was so much at question, coupled to digesting the fact that there was a half brother, which is older than my brother and sister.  Why didn’t he arrive on the scene earlier?  There were more questions – as at that time there was a concern of what Terri was after over all this time.  At that time, I had pretty much seen it all with cancer and nothing surprised me.  Yet this did.  It would have been very different if my father would have made mention to everyone within the immediate family many years back, but I think he lived within this world that if he kept silent it would go away.  Mind you, he had aided by way of monies for the future of this son he had before he got married.  Yet still there should have been a time that he did mention to all within the family upon a certain appropriate time and year.  Yet there was no anger as he had been through all too much.  Maybe there was to some extent but of what I know between myself and my brother, we didn’t see the point.  If we were within our teens, I think we would have reacted much differently.  But then who’s to say?  I just handled it.  Terri was raised by his mother and through the years, she was offered anything for Terri, but thereafter I as executor came to know that to cease offering further monies did have a reason a more legal reason of the very fact that there was never a sign off on any further claims.  Yeah...

I had left within a few months after this as it was within my plans to head to go on a sabbatical or a respite of sorts.  There were too many things that had happened over a short period of time.  I would periodically hear from this half brother of mine.  I set down some terms with him after speaking with one gentleman that is appointed along with myself to tend to matters with my will if and when he passes on.  Upon the advisement of Mel along with the family lawyer - I decided I would keep some distance with Terri, yet at the same time, I would leave an open door.  That within itself is a very hard thing to do as there is one side which wants to know more, while on the other hand - you don't want to foul up something.  So it was a very hard thing as you had to give it some thought as there was always the question of what his prerogative was.  I understood full well that he was a half brother.  But here again I wish he would have came on the "scene", earlier as he could have.  But he didn’t - that would leave much to be questioned.  I decided I would hold my distance yet speak with only him.  As time went on, Terri came to be an adaptation to all within the family.  As well, ironically my cousin worked with him and opened up the Pandora’s Box – as she ironically worked with Terri.  As soon as she knew.  She did much like wedding invitations – as she placed out an announcement to everyone within the family.  He name is Heather.  I am not one to get angry, yet when there is something done wrong and back at that time the family was just slowly adapting.  She had the audacity to mail out this announcement.  As she was not of the immediate family, I had to take her aside when she and her husband made a visit into town.  And I basically in so many words told her that she had no right to do what she had done.  What she might have considered was that my father and Terri were the ones to decide when the right time was to make this announcement if they so desired.  It didn’t go over well with Heather at the time – yet her husband Dirk completely understood what I was explaining to her.  As she jumped the gun on a situation all too fast and neglected to consider my father, Terri, and for that matter the immediate family.  Yet word got out and once it’s done, there is no turning back.

Five years have passed and as of today’s date, after three years of silence, I went over to my folks and I met my half brother along within his wife the same gal.  And I gave him my email address as well as new telephone LAN line as well as cell.  As I had not seen them for all this time and it was a first and when I dropped over.  We could talk about much more as there was an understanding.  Terri is now remarried to the same lady.  Terri has aged a little but he and I stepped out and had a good talk and I went over some of the reasons of what I did for what reasons.  He understood and heck, he is my brother and she is my sister in law.  They didn’t know it was my birthday, but they are leaving within the morning as Claudette has family here as well.  Families are funny.  Yet I do look forward to receiving some pictures from both of them and I guess you could say there was some closure within this.  At least it was good to explain the reasons of what you did and why you did it.

Terri understood full well, of what I had and was doing.  The way I see it is upon that time in which my father passes on.

I now know where Terri’s place is within all that matters.  I wanted to avoid seeing him – yet then the door opened and I don’t think it’s ever going to close now.  So this was a fine day.  My father may think it’s his own situation.  Yet as much as I respect the man, this should have been opened up a long time ago within the family.  Yet it was great to do that catch up with him and all that he is doing.  And I have an invite to his place in Kelowna, British Columbia.  I may just hitch a ride and go pay a visit.

Edmonton Oiler Picks Up Hitchhiker

Edmonton Oiler Gilbert Brule and his girlfriend picked up an unusual hitchhiker in West Vancouver last Tuesday — U2 front man Bono.  Brule and girlfriend Kelsey Nichols were driving to a park to walk Bella, their German shepherd, on Tuesday afternoon near the West Vancouver Yacht Club when they spotted a couple of hitchhikers on the side of the road.  Brule, watching out the window, was sure one of them was Bono.  Nichols, who was driving, didn’t believe him, because, really, why would Bono be hitchhiking in West Vancouver?  “I didn’t want to stop, but they waved and Gilbert yelled ‘that’s Bono’,” Nichols said Wednesday night at Commonwealth Stadium.  “I didn’t believe him so I kept driving.”

The couple went on, a short distance anyway, all the while Brule trying to convince Nichols to turn around.  Eventually, she agreed.  The hitchhikers were still there when they drove up, and to her surprise it was the U2 front man and she yelled out once could see it was him.

 “Bono!”

Bono waved and walked over to their truck.  Who would ever think that the lead singer of one of the largest bands was walking on the side roads of North Vancouver?  The Irishman, who indeed was Bono, asked if they could give him and his assistant a lift to Horseshoe Bay.  It turned out that Bono and his assistant had gone for a walk and then it started to rain.  Right at the same time that Gilbert Brule and company where driving on their way to a place called Horse Bay.

As it turns out, Bono and his assistant had gone out for a walk when it started to rain, just before Brule and Nichols happened upon them.  On the drive to Horseshoe Bay, Bono and his assistant sat in the back with the couple’s dog.  The four chatted about Brule’s hockey career, about Dublin and Bono’s apparent love for Vancouver.  Bono mentioned that his band was playing a show in Edmonton on Wednesday and asked if they’d like to go.  So Brule and Nichols sold their tickets for Game 1 of the Stanley Cup final, bought plane tickets (three, so Brule’s mom could come too) and flew back to Edmonton, where Brule is a forward for the Oilers.

Bono got them backstage passes to say thanks for the ride.

On Nichols’s pass, he wrote: “Thanks for the ride.”  On Brule’s pass, he wrote: “My hero Gilbert.”  It was the strangest thing.  “We go to walk our dog and Bono ends up in our car,” Brule said.

Bono paid tribute to the favor onstage during Wednesday’s concert. During the concert he told the audience, “I like ice hockey because people who play ice hockey are the kind of people who pick up hitchhikers,” Bono told the crowd.  “I’m ever so grateful.  I’ve decided that I want to be Gilbert Brule.”

A rather profound story yet it does give new meaning to the Beatles' song, "Ticket to Ride".

Apart of my Sunday

Variations within Yet Without (21)

While I was downtown there was this chap whom while I walked into this children’s festival here that I saw a perfect image of which had some imagery to it.  I just took the picture and then I went over and talked to the person.  It led into a conversation that I would have never thought would occur.  I had just arrived down town from my favorite bookstore and here there this very intelligent person of the age of thirty asked me if I had a minute to sit down and talk with him.  I had no problems and we sat within the park and slowly he started to ask me a few questions.  I guess he was trying to sum up things before he began to talk.

I sat there and told him of where I was from.  I guess he was looking for something.  Some sort of verification of sorts. He was shy yet after fifteen minutes he started to talk about what he was trying to accomplish.  He had a good manner of speaking.  He was not dumb that was obvious within listening to what he had to say.  Sooner than later he came out with some things of which were indicators to me that he was going through some process.  I don’t even know his name as he was mentioning things within his life which he was trying to get going yet within a few words, I knew that he probably had been through some sort of ordeal.  Not one of anything illegal as you but when as it turned out he had stress problems and had been hospitalized two times.

Now there are two sides within listening as I see it.  I listen for the tone and the changes when a question is asked but you never force it.  What came to be was he was working through a mental illness and I would have been the last to see this till I heard a few things in which he had to say. He was pleasant and then I would see that his legs would sort of go when a few questions were asked.  Yet he had more to say than I did but I would have never guessed that he was managing what is known as schizo effect disorder.  It’s one of the stress disorders within that nature of mental illness.  I asked him why he came down to the river and he said just for the tranquility and he was in the midst of making changes within his life. He asked several questions.  Seemingly, he was looking for answers while within some sort of journey he was on.  I would have never guessed this.

We took a little walk and while we were walking I made mention to him that within all the people that were at this festival which was taking place that at least 1 out of 4 has some form of problem that they too are resolving.  I think that gave him some perspective on things.  Yet he didn’t seem to unhappy yet there is a good face that one does place on and then when we go deeper so often you find that everyone has a little something.  The discussion was nearly an hour.  He said that he had to run.  We never exchanged anything but the one thing that I have come to realize is that everyone has some sort of ordeal which is taking place or has.

I would have never thought that I would have run into a person as such but after the amount of talking, I did come to realize that he had been through an ordeal and was on that building up period.  There are many things which took place today but the best deed I did without any repercussions was leave this person of with some positive things to think about.  Yet he talked more than I.

When we take that time to understand people and not label them – I believe that it’s the essence of the ultimate within this term we call – “good will”. If merely a few things said made a trickle of some perspective to aid him on his way it’s that good feel.  As I have, done several things over this weekend and for that matter even today.  Yet this is probably the one of the tops for today.  He went on his way and I then met up with a few people but the justice of good left wondering on how he shall be but seemingly within this change which he was in the midst of was one that not one person would ever know.  But within speaking with him was a part of that thing of good will.  Labels are merely names.  And I hope this chap does well within his journey as even for myself it was a decent feel in taking that time to just listen and to some extent lend some thoughts.
