I am not sure if that is the way I really wish to look at it there are so many things that have been happening and this area of time and the commodity of the spirit in which many of us do celebrate is one that is too much over done. There is no doubt on it after paying for parking. The brochures and so on it's not the meaning of what this celebration is for nor is all the charm. The season is something that brings about that certain abundance deep within. This last week has been a zoo when it comes to shopping. I feel that the celebration is much more within whom we are and what we believe in.
Here is my trick I kid you not - I wrap all my gifts in newspaper and I give them with a nice card. Where does gift wrapping go anyways? I have done that for years now and shall do the very same this year. It's a tradition I have always done for years now. Maybe I am ecologically correct with the material side of gift giving. But that is the manner in which I do it.
So within my Sunday it’s been busy as has been the last week but the great thing about this time of the year are the movies that are on within the evening. I find this time to be that of a precious family time when it comes to this time of the year. And always have and probably always will.
Yet it's two days to Winter - who ever decided when it was winter?
Yay movies!!! I am in for the evening and am looking to watch some myself.
ReplyDeleteA friend of mine never wraps gifts. He puts them in a cloth bag or wraps his jacket around them. I think it is a bit weird but makes sense...the element of surprise is there. Your idea of newsprint wrap is great! I made Christmas stockings one year out of every kind of paper you could imagine. There is something cool about using something other than what our retailers tell us to.
Good idea. I wrapped all of my gifts in paper that the proceeds go to ST Judes. hospital for children.
ReplyDelete,,now that s novel idea for wrapping..are your newspapers ,Pink?[hugz]]
ReplyDeleteMovies yes!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's neat what he does I have done newspaper since the early 90's I kid you not. As I found that for all they all ended up in the trash - so...
But the card and the meaning of the gift ------------- that is where it's at.
Great idea Tee....
ReplyDeleteI am done and that is final and I am glad for that I can honestly tell ya.
Newspaper is block fonts on white as they are around the world lol Caroline yeah?
ReplyDeletebtw,, mainly ..but our Financial ones,,are *pink.:)
ReplyDeleteso am I, just 20 some gifts.all wrapped and under the tree except for two that left already.
ReplyDeletethe strange thing is I wrapped all of the gifts with one roll and there is still some left. and there are some pretty big boxes that was wrapped.
I see it's different here I guess. I have never seen that before.
ReplyDeleteI wrap a lot of my gifts in cloth. People who sew or quilt love it. It also looks really pretty.
ReplyDeleteNeat Sharon...
ReplyDeleteI also use the cloth grocery bags tied with ribbon instead of gift bags.
ReplyDeleteGreat - I just neatly wrap with newspaper and on the very top is just a neat appropriate card.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny the paper gift bags are $1.50 or more for the big bags while the cloth grocery bags are $1. I don't buy the newspaper and haven't for a couple years so that wouldn't work for me.
ReplyDeletemy mother wrapped in the comics---i just thought that santa wanted me to read----i still wrap in paper and then ask for all the paper back so i can recycle---except for an article i think someone will enjoy then i wrap in that article and they can keep it-----but merry christmas amigo-----we will be sharing moments with family ----and that is good and will make for funny conversation with non family after the new year
ReplyDeleteIt's not so much what the gift is wrapped in anyways :) I buy inexpensive paper for the most part. The kiddos love the brightly colored packages..some of it can be recycled except probably not too much the ones the kids tear up lol..An idea could be using it for packing paper though in the future if they wanted. Much nicer than messy Styrofoam beads
ReplyDeleteIt feels like winter came before it was suppose to lol..hard to believe it wasn't winter the day we had ice covered roads. Have an excellent week and enjoy the precious time with family
Sharon, I don't subscribe to newspapers either, but the funny thing is that some years ago, gift wrapping was made to look like newspaper, & people went wild over it, & didn't mind the cost.
ReplyDeleteI think cloth grocery bags is a great idea...they can be used again, over & over. I'd appreciate someone doing this! I hate to think of all the trees that fell for paper that winds up in our mountains of garbage.
Indeed, we will. I never knew you did this even way back during the times of Y360. I never really looked at what I was wrapping all I thought of was that the wrap would end up in the trash anyways....so what is inside and the card - si ---- yes yo gusto!
ReplyDelete"Yet it's two days to Winter - who ever decided when it was winter?"
ReplyDeleteWinter does!! But oh my, someone sent me a link to what's happening...just in New York...& it's very, very bad.
It was ironic today when getting in and I could hear on the television - "two days before winter". Yup :)
ReplyDeleteI think children are different Cheryl.
I would certainly wrap them within something as this time of the year is magical to them and for them as if
was for us. The sight of a child's eyes on the morning early morning of Christmas!
Here's the link:

I love the wonder in the little children's eyes. :)
ReplyDeleteIt is...
ReplyDeleteGreat idea with the newspaper and I will always remember the look of my kids Christmas morning....:)
ReplyDeleteJulie, I bet............I can't say I have had that experience as I was writing to a friends whom has several
ReplyDeletebut that is something precious. As there was a time when we were kids as well.
So five days............till then :)
Rather then fill your blog with my insanity I wrote it on my site and here's the link. I know I am a little strange so here it is http://jadedruid.multiply.com/journal/item/1688/Gift_wrapping_ideas
ReplyDeleteThey are great ideas dear.
ReplyDeletein the past I have wrapped a present or two in the comic pages Jack! I am not so sure I am understanding the talk about brochures though...but, yeah it has been like a zoo while out shopping that is for sure. Last night I ended up watching The Wizard of Oz! I haven't seen that in a while, it was nice to watch it again.
ReplyDeleteIt's the seasonal equinox, they had to name it something so it's winter. Happy Sunday!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas Jack, with love to all.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you
ReplyDeleteExcellent way of recycling newspaper Jack, and as you said it all ends up in the recycling bin in the end.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas and may your New Year be filled with Joy, Health and Happiness.
Peace be with you always
I do agree Jack Christmas is all about the commercial world now days it's not about Religion in any sense of the word, I wonder how many families actually say to eachother in membranes of Jesus who's day of birth we share on this day here is a little something for you to mark the blessing of his birth. or something to that effect.
ReplyDeleteI think if we were all a little more kinder during the year and gave a gift to someone just out of appreciation of something or for no other reason than to say I Care. would be much more meaning fully than having something to brag about as to how much in a monetary term someone thought of us on the 25th December each year.
Christmas has become more about consumerism than the true spirit of love for which it was intended.
ReplyDeleteI, too, love the movies this time of year. I watched Miracle on 34th Street the Other Night.
My husband got me doing this. He said his aunt did that growing up. Its a great idea.
ReplyDeleteah won't be long now the clock is ticking as the hour nastily approaches stay safe Jack and enjoy the holiday in full spirit.
