Robot surgery pair creates History

Meet Robot DaVinci and Robot McSleepy.

The DaVinci surgical robot a world first of it's kind. A completely robotic surgery and anesthesia have been recently started to be performed at the McGill University Health Centre.  The DaVinci surgical robot, which allows surgeons to work from remote locations, was put to work this summer within Montreal.  Whereas the anesthesia robot, nicknamed McSleepy, has been providing automated anesthesia since 2008.  The two combined to perform the first all robotic surgery on a patient at the Montreal General Hospital.

The collaboration between DaVinci, a surgical robot, and anesthetic robot named, McSleepy seems to be a tremendous fit robots in medicine can provide health care of higher safety and precision, thus ultimately improving outcomes for patients,” said Dr. Hemmerling of McGill University who is also a neuroscience researcher.

The DaVinci allows surgeons to work from a workstation using all the operating surgical instruments with as delicate movements of fingers with a precision that cannot be provided by humans.  Teams of surgeons operate the robotic arms from a dedicated workstation via video with unsurpassed three dimensional high definition imagery.  With unparalleled quality.  An automated anesthesia delivery via McSleepy guarantees the same high quality of care every time it is used.  McSleepy, which was invented in 2008, can literally configure exactly to the specific needs for each and every patient that is undergoing a variety of surgeries by an ordinary surgery or of the likes of a robotic surgery.  Anesthesia has finally caught up.

Combining both robots, allows for faster, safer and more precise surgery.  DaVinci literally has made medical history and how we are going forward within these areas of medicine.  Here again this fascinates me and I would have loved to have seen this place or at least take pictures of this but just imagine where an operation can take place from thousands of miles away with tremendous precision.

Fascinating...

Robots will not replace doctors but help them to perform to the highest standards.

  1. Robots have been used for a long time but not within this manner and DaVinci first of it's kind it actually started to be used in August within parts of Canada.

  2. i imagined being the first patient to undergo such surgery---- in my experience in central america so long ago---we relied heavily on flex straws and duct tape----medicine advances ---as does therapy----we are grateful and still just a bit apprehensive---si?

  3. Amazing! Maybe this will make surgical medicine more affordable in America...or not.

  4. Robots have been used Doug all around the world but DaVinci is literally the first of it's kind. And medical advances are taking place all over the world. This was on the news last night and I found it to be very fascinating....just imagine where this can go.

  5. I don't think robots will come to replace surgeries but the advances are amazing si.

  8. Interesting Jack, but ... there's still nothing comparable to humans who can think at the last moments of indecisions :).

  9. Advances....they alway are Carol. But imagine how this could be used? If someone is half way across the world a procedure could be done rather than a death.

  10. I agree there are pros and cons to it and there still is that need for that human element but this coupled with it is certainly advancement.

  12. My sister had a brain tumour removed by robotic surgery about 7 years ago. It just spun me out that the surgeon "operated" on her from 12 feet away...in another room!

  13. it's amazing as when I saw this on television it literally blew me away as there are many robotic porcedures that have been out there and the precioun they have now by way of technology...Toni it is amazing.

  14. That's kinda spooky! Robots can go wrong... like humans.

  15. Salaam brother Jack!
    Thanks for posting this blog.
Advanced robots could facilitate various jobs in different areas.
But sometimes when I read news about medical robots which can do surgeries without needing a doctor around the patient it reminds me of a TV serial named: Fragile Heart. Nigel Hawthorne plays the role of a surgeon. He goes to a conference in China in order to introduce some robotic equipments which for example can be controlled remotely in China from U.K. A Chinese doctor stands up and asks him: but what should be done about the feelings of a patient? And that when a patient, though is not conscious, finds a human being who is doctor beside himself, he can feel a kind of assurance, humanistic relationship you know.
