Temptations seemingly can provoke the worst within some. It can cause people who normally are honest to do something so outlandish and dishonest. A good example of this is a recent situation within the Lottery system. As well, within the province of Ontario some Lottery retailers have deceitfully cheated to claim millions in lottery prize money. Within Canada there’s a lottery system that spans right across all of the country and if you’re a winner, you don’t have to pay out any taxes on your winnings. The biggest story lately within Canada has to do with the police accusing a Toronto convenience store employee and his two children with the stealing of a ticket worth $12.5 million. ~ Pause Period ~
Lets see maybe a better car for that matter maybe two, head out on a jet to whereever one wishes and beaches and vacations Yeah 12.5 million is still big money. Ok I am over it...
To make matters worse, now that the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation is searching for the rightful winner. Of course they’ve been swamped with dozens and dozens of callers claiming ownership of the ticket. I guess we’re supposed to believe that all these people bought a lottery ticket for the draw in question at that store but never bothered to really check their numbers until they learned there was $12.5 million up for grabs. It kind of gives new meaning to nothing ventured, nothing gained I suppose. Since the first cases of retailer fraud surfaced a while back I noticed that within most all convenient stores here there have been signs within instructions on how to write our names on the back of tickets we hand in for redemption of any winnings. I never much have worried lotteries or lottery tickets, or anything of that sort as I have never gambled or played the lottery literally within my life. Yet it is something when greed comes into play rather than just honestly playing the game and who know one might just win. But still there is something to be said for this word called greed. It does bring out some of the worst things within SOME.
Certainly we do wish to have things perhaps more is worth saying however, the means by which we obtain what we have might be something to consider. As within this case it certainly isn't a first nor is it a last. There is something to be said for what people will do and what tempts us - which I would think money is right up there.
we only need enough money to live comfortably.no need for millions :)
ReplyDeleteThere is a similar story playing out in the Southern United States where a lottery official falsely claimed a winning lottery ticket. The lottery commission is searching for the winner also. The official in question is arrested and the money is still ready for claim...but they can't find the legal winner! Will be interesting how this plays out.
ReplyDeletewow 12.5 big ones a lot of green...I can see how it would bring about a few evil thoughts...:)
ReplyDeleteSo true Caroline...if one makes a million in doing something as a by product so be it but within this case here, what some people will do - Temptation...as it's been an ongoing investigation out east in Ontario. Yet it could be anywhere.

ReplyDeleteBill I think they happen all over. A very similar situation and it will be very interesting to see how these do play out. I will never forget a friend of mine that ran a small shopping center up in the north where there are many lakes and there was one ticket that went for a year without being claimed. Well it just so happened that an elder man went to close up his cottage and took this lottery ticket he found in a town called Prince Albert, and I will never forget this call and my friend whom was manager of the mall describing this older chap dancing up and down as he had the lost ticket which was worth $6 million.
Mike yeah I think this is a not the federal lottery that is up here as it's 13.5 with no taxes. I remember when I was in Montreal and I was getting some Milk at the a convenient store and the federal lottery which is called Lotto 649 was $50 million, two people won it a split it. But yeah within this case it's lead to an ongoing investigation all within the name of "greed from the green".
ReplyDeleteA lot not only some ... and maybe only one eight of the total number isn't.
ReplyDeletesad isn't it
ReplyDeleteI remember when Lottario first came out .. I had big dreams .. lol I think I spent 200 dollars or more one draw .. NOTHING! lmao
ReplyDeleteI still have big dreams, but one ticket will do.
Money almost always bring out the worst in people sad..sad
ReplyDeleteTee it's greed just turn on the news and I think you know what I mean.

ReplyDeleteThellord, I literally have managed and developed shopping centers and within each mall we always placed a Lottery booth and I never in my life bought a ticket - I have this thing about luck and fortune. I am not kidding.
But I do know how people will buy one and just that small slight chance of winning but this still does not make this story of greed right. I have one friend that will literally spend all half his pay cheque within a small bar and there is something wrong with this picture unfortunately. But yet if this amount came to me for some unknown legal reason, I would not pass it up :).
Luck vs. Fortune
ReplyDeleteThis really is a subject that one could indulge in Julie...there is nothing wrong with doing well, but stealing or any criminal act yeah...that is sad.
I beg your pardon Maritess? I don't understand what you mean.
ReplyDeleteYep, money, power and sex are the biggies. Turns people in to real animals sometimes...

ReplyDeleteSummer how did the Queen keep so normal? A ponder...
Maybe she is numb...
ReplyDeleteTrue come to think of it...
ReplyDeleteHmmm... I've never bought a Lottery ticket.
ReplyDeleteMoney is the root of all evil .... its the foundation for power!
ReplyDeleteAnd the Queen is NORMAL? ... ~grin~ .....
Maybe because she doesn't control it?
ReplyDeleteYes, it is a temptation, but I don't believe winning a lottery brings happiness. I remember reading an article about people who had won and all the troubles it caused them. However, none wanted to return the money. Anyway, just imagine the hassle of managing it.......................
ReplyDeleteAlso, chance, luck, is part of how evil works, whereas good radiates in an orderly fashion, on purpose.
What I meant Jack is that, of the 100% maybe only 1/8% of that maynot succumbed to the lure of money.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I want to try Lotto ... for the life of me, I don't even know how to put those numbers! And even the Bingo. gosh! I'm missing a lot! :)
ReplyDeleteNor I literally Cath.
Smiling......lets go see within Buckingham :)
DJ, so true with regards to some and the way they handled it I knew two people that had one. Both ended up loosing everything within a span of one year I kid you not. However I do know a few people that have worked hard all there lives and are humble and do very good things with their earned money. So I don't think money is the root of the evil within my opinion in here but temptation and what some people will do as each and every one of us are different.
ReplyDelete"Whereas good radiates in an orderly fashion, on purpose" by DJ. I could not agree with you more. As purpose is the objectivity within life itself.
When the lottery was first introduced to Florida, it was done so in the name of helping education. Sure, right. While some of the money went to education, not all made its way there, and it was used to offset expenses for other projects. I've not bought a ticket in over 20 years, no matter how many millions of dollars were up for grabs. The truth is that if I ever won that much money, I would give it away. Can it buy someone happiness? No.

ReplyDeleteSo very true Darby....
I agree winning all that money brings out the worst in people. And so many spend it uncontrollably, and end up in the doghouse. I do find it interesting to see that you don’t have to pay out any taxes on your winnings. Unlike here in NY.
ReplyDeleteFederally it's one thing that is done here within the Federal lotteries, however there are provincial (like state) lotteries in which one does have to pay taxes on both provincally and federally. I just logged on and well hello! :)
