Gracefully We Grow - I think and thunk it Over :)

How have you aged?

I wear dentures. Yet I always tell people they are cosmetic implants.

I nearly have to go to the washroom so much that I wear "elderly" diapers now.

I used to be concerned with holding my breath now I worry about holding gas.

I decline to comment.

I leave it up to my cats to satisfy my curiosity.

If that cat can't then I look at "Fido" my dog.

I used to eat steak and cheescake, now I look forward to prunes.

I went with my 80 year old uncle to get him some groceries and the cashier said, will this be for both of you?

I wake up and forget what day it is.

When a picture is taken, they say cheese and I sneeze, dang it!

They say we’re supposed to age gracefully. Accept the passing of the years with a smile. Give up graciously the things of our youth. Nuts to that! Young people aren’t offended when asked their age but when someone asks me how old I am, I want seemingly it's different to when I was 21. Then again you just embrace it or do we? George Carlin did a great bit on age. When you are very young or very old, you round up. You’re not 5, you’re “nearly 5 and a half”. You’re not 92, you’re “almost 93! As for baby boomers like me, when someone is ill mannered enough to ask, “How old are you?” I turn the tables by smiling and asking, “How old do you think I am?” which immediately puts the person on the spot. They certainly don’t want to guess high so they go low, usually somewhere within the vicinity of five years. Whereupon I answer, “Close enough”. I may be older than I once was, actually lighter than I once was, I’m more forgetful than I once was...hmmm can I multiply as fast within my head as I used to, no it takes a little more time.

But........."big but lets just stop for a moment."

Aging doesn’t happen until you lose your curiosity…. you no longer care what is around the next corner or over the next hill but are satisfied with what you know now. The way I see it is you're as old as your doubt, as young as your confidence, as old as your fear, and as young as your hope.

hmmm ... i just commited that sin ... asking someone very dear to me ... laughs*
anyways, as i keep on saying, age doesn't matter whether one is 65 or 95 ... but come to think of it. You are very right, if one will ask me at this time i will just take a look and leave him/her. Heck! ... i just realised it just now! laughs*

for that very important person in my life ... am sorry ;) whereever you are right now :) sleep well ... blessings and hugs tight :)

  2. ... its funny but age has never bothered me. Age is just another number and inside I still feel 30!! Its all in the mind really ... I actually have a hard time convincing people that I am actually 50 ... Perhaps old age happens when one gives up ... or when one is looking for a reason to give up? ...

  12. Lynne, havent you heard? "Aging doesn’t happen until you lose your curiosity…. you no longer care what is around the next corner or over the next hill but are satisfied with what you know now. The way I see it is you're as old as your doubt, as young as your confidence, as old as your fear, and as young as your hope." Yeah and why not. Mind you I still feel.

So in the words of "the Life of Brian", " always look on the bright side of life, do do, do - do do. (Man some are going to think I am out of it, this is the other side me). Jack which side? I dunno :)

  16. George Carlin was an awesome old guy - age is just a number - its how you feel and act that's important.

  17. I like that! My Grandma will probably live to a 100 at least..she says she stays young by acting like a kid..She is 96 and has aspirations of getting her picture on the Smuckers Jar (smiles) ever hear of that ? And the letter from the president of the USA too . She's a real sweetie she never had a lot monetarily but she's a very giving person.

  19. Nuts to that is right, Jack! Give up nothing, ever!

My thoughts on this are that, one should always think young, keep a child in their heart, a smile on their face, and surround themselves with happy, upbeat people who share the same enthusiasm for life as you do! Avoid negative, pessimistic people because they will surely subtract from your life. And, finally, ask yourself the question: How YOUNG would I be if I didn't know how old I was? I thunk it over, and my answer is........*drum roll, please* 25!!!!!!

    Wonderful blog, Jack! :)

  20. That's really quite excellent! It beats my Gran's quote for style and panache, but that's not all that hard I guess... hers was "I'm as old as my tongue and a little bit older than my teeth". Doesn't have quite the finesse, eh? ;)

  21. True but when your eating prunes more than fish - I think there is something wrong with this picture :)

    Satire Friday :)

  23. Well, I plan on buying a tupee when I am ..........................actually it's time! :)

  24. Well, I mixed up this poll I think when I tried to do it but I knew what my intentions where here. I am sure that is obvious. Mind you I have a tremendous friend that is Muslim, he calls me every night now and I think he is a great person. I had to go to this site as I am working half time right now, but on the flip side we do have areas that we are mature enough to know that life is within our own making yet there are some things that one comes to understand are not as easy as it seems. Yet I do see it this way, age is age. But then again age is priceless! I am as old as my feet, mind you the callouses have are certainly there. Yet I clip my toe nails. :)

  25. Hmm...I usually dont think of my age except when I look back on how things "used" to be. So, as long as I look at now and move forward, I am young and my age is a number. As for the Poll, I usually never remembered what day it was even when I was 10. Is it friday yet?

  26. Age is just a number, I'm 44 ( Yes that's right, not ashamed at all, I've earned every year!)

    ReplyDelete
  27. Age should not be a question, its something to be proud of. A lot did not survive, we should be all be thankful we reach the age we could proudly say ... i've done this , done that ... still, here i am. :)

now, about the toupee ... i would rather see the old you and not the new you, its what indears you to me. And i don't wanna ask myself in the future, ~ ... who is he?

... i know i just hurt for days, someone very close to my heart by asking something. But its just me ...

and if someone would ask me how old i am this moment ... heck! ... i would pinch him/her into pieces laughs*
hmmm, but wait ... thought, i just said "we should be proud of" hahah! nah! its just for public release!!! laughing hard!

... *well, i just want you to laugh ... good early eves Jack. hugs tight :)

  28. I have to be thankful for age although... no.. no looking back for I know that the best is yet to come, and you know what... it simply makes me closer to retirement lol... and plenty of time to just laisser-faire as you say so well Jack. OK, it is not for tomorrow so in the meantime, I want to enjoy every day for the beauty that it brings in the most simple things, the ones that really count in the end, a smile, a gentle touch, someone greeting you on the street, the voice of a friend on the phone... when I see my parents and my aunt who is over 90 and still spending her summers at the cottage by herself, I say Yes! Each additional year that is given to us is a blessing, really is. Funny blog Jack, and good night young man!

  30. Well for that matter it's Friday but then again it's kind of like yesterday but yet it's today :)
Things that just make one go hmmm :) Gosh I do remember somethings, I was just thinking about my first birthday, and we had this Pomeranian that would never play with me. Making a long story short, the folks tied a porch chop around my neck just so that I thought "ziggy" was playing with me, I wasn't sure then nor am I now!

  31. Cat I forget when I was hatched. I am not ashamed of it either. Yet it's been a long time to say the least! :)

  34. Well, I say I am 50ish but if 50 is the new forty then I might be 40ish. lol sometimes i am too confused to keep up with it all, others too tired to remember it all and then other times, i want it all, now! the body gets older but the mind keeps it running!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Well, 50 is maybe the new 40, I don't want it all now. Mind you I just arrived home now and I do want to have something to eat very shortly. What will it be - not the prunes something else. Something a little green with some veggies as well. Mind you that does not say much for the brunch I had :).
The body does yet I take the "over 50 vitamins". :) So there...:)

...No diapers. No dentures (getting to want these now though), YET...

I wouldn't trade a wrinkle, nor a gray hair for all the ignorance of youth.
    Not by a long shot.

    Very interesting.

    XOXO
    Who am I? I forget...
