I forget the url that this came from but some are writing with regards to Multiples "Terms of Service. I would think that in this day and era that we all know that there is a collective component. As on any social network there is. Where isn't there one? It's obvious to me that there was one in any blog or within any network that is on the internet now. As for myself there are some pictures that I value so I will mark my "stamp" on them but within the writes. I always knew that there was some collective data that would be happening where isn't there? If you don't wish to write something then don't write it is how I feel but I think that it's all rendered and that is the manner of the internet these days. So I have never claimed to be a writer. I have met writers on here but I love to write on here in a manner that is within my own manner. As far as it being collected in accord to the Terms of Service.. it's always been on there since the inception of Multiply as well as any other blog. We live within a time of transparency. Mind you it would be nice if one could write and not have it all in a collective database - but does that really stop anything in this day and age?
Terms of Service - what you place out there is what is really out there. As what isn't out there? If you know what I mean.
Well said. As we all supposed to understand that any writes we put on here becomes partly owned by the site. And being read by the whole world ... Gosh! i forgot that ... !
ReplyDeleteThat is certainly the hot topic of today. Although, I did sign the petition this morning because I've seen some wonderful photos, poems and other things posted on here and feel that Multiply shouldn't have all rights to it. I know myself that when we post anything the world may see it but some have their photos restricted to certain individuals in hopes of trusting them so we should have some rights especially the ones that pay for this site. That is just my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI feel if I have something so original its might be worth money to me I wouldn't post it on Multiply in the first place.
ReplyDeleteeven with a generalized consent they can't legally sell or distribute materials; would never stand up in court.
ReplyDeleteI signed the petition as well for the same reason you did Kelly. I know that what I write isn't going to make me any money and as for photos, I believe I always check the box that no one can order my photos from here. Jack watermarks his as I know other people do too. I would if I knew how to do that. Jack??
ReplyDeleteYeah I agree, I do pay for this and I do write within an authentic manner it does not sway what I wish to write, but there are areas that are private for me and I will not post them I will and have but as mentioned a stamp on them but for me I am not a great writer and I do entrust it and it does not alter what I write as even if there were not terms of service now everything is out there. Especially within all these blogs. It would be nice to think that Multiply is only monitoring for good reasons but not collecting data as there are some very good writers on here. I was just thinking about this when I read it and I would hope that it's more for security measures than anything else.
ReplyDeleteSame here Doug.
ReplyDeleteArielle, I am not sure but I enjoy it and it doesnt stop what I post.
ReplyDeleteyeah well i still signed petition because they should rephrase but no, they don't get ownership regardless.
ReplyDeleteIn a sense yes hold on lets see if I can find the link...http://realwriters.multiply.com/journal/item/4?mark_read=realwriters:journal:4
ReplyDeleteIt's easy with pictures but not with writings Suzie.
ReplyDeletecould you tell me how to do it please?
ReplyDeleteI didn't sign it as I am not a writer, and I am not sure of the laws here and if they would be applicable
ReplyDelete....or even if I was a writer as Doug had mentioned I would not place it on here.
Jack, I am asking you how do you put a watermark on your pictures.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jack!
ReplyDeleteIt's right on your system there or you can buy a program...it's easy.
ReplyDeleteThere is a photo editor that is right on your system. I forget the name
of it but it does the job or there are several out there that one can buy.
Your welcome Maggie I was reading and I came to it by way of reading three people's blogs.
ReplyDeleteIt covers everything from writing, photos, music, any intellectual property.
ReplyDeletedo you mean the photo editor right here in Multiply? I will look for it Jack, thanks. I've never noticed it before.
ReplyDeletePost a note and I am sure that there will be people that give you directions there is an array of ways.
ReplyDeleteNot within Multiply though.
yeah I looked and all there is is cropping, red eye and such....no watermarking.
ReplyDeletethis has been so hashed and rehashed-lol
ReplyDeleteand t is silly really anytime you go on the net well need I say more-
don't think we have a photo editor here on multiply at least I never found one-I always use I-Photo and my photo bucket-
The terms have within any blog and I don't think it's that large of an ordeal.
ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to photos, this is why I am a little private on here with somethings but there are the terms of service have been there
as well on eveyones own internet service provider for that matter. So, I don't think anything has changed as it's been there since day one.
But the idea that an original composition or photograph can be sold or used (w/o your permission) for the profit of the website is irksome. Especially when other sites have yielded on such Terms of Service---as recently as the last year at Facebook. There are no free lunches---but these sites make money on ads---or membership costs to avoid ad banners and then to imagine them selling users original works/photos or serializing personal journal entries (if they wished...) for their profit... that doesn't sit well.
ReplyDeleteHi Jack..I watch a thing on T.V about the history of Google the othe night..And what a lot of people may not know is they store everything that u may google and can and do use this info..so really anything u do on the net is up for grabs..just a chance u take I think..
ReplyDeleteJulie yes and as Doug up there placed it...what you don't want to be on then just don't post it.
ReplyDeleteIt's as easy as that. I think that some of this likes of Doug know this as you do, I do and it nothing new.
So we writes within our own free will. I know I do - this has been not something that is new it's been there since
the dawn of blogs.
Susan call them...
