Paul McCartney's return to the Ed Sullivan Theater for an outdoor performance on the theater's marquee yesterday captured on The Late Show With David Letterman drew a crowd that packed Broadway from Times Square to Columbus Circle.
Fans were treated not only to "Get Back" and "Sing The Changes" taped for the Late Show broadcast but to a veritable mini-concert, as Paul and the band thundered through "Coming Up," "Band On The Run," "Let Me Roll It," "Helter Skelter" and "Back In The USSR."
I admire Sir Paul, but I was living on a remote ranch in the boondocks when the Beatles hit the big time. I missed their phenomena. We didn't have radio or TV. The phone worked, sometimes, but everyone on the line could hear your conversation if they wanted to. I left to go to the backwoods and ranch ranges, when Elvis was on top, missed the drugs of the 70's scene, and came back to Black Sabbath and Johnny Cash. What a clash. I still like Ozzy and Johnny.
ReplyDeleteThis video's music is just noise to me. Everyone has a right to their opinion. I do like "Yesterday" "Eleanor Rigby" and the ones that will live for hundreds of years...but this video's songs won't be classics. My opinion is an OLD FARTS opinion, and I'm sticking to it.
in my opinion, you can't say anything bad about the Beatles...they are the very essence of rock and roll, but never thought I'd see Paul in a pink shirt! What a shock!
ReplyDeleteThanks much! I wanted to see this badly, but my TV won't come on now. haha
ReplyDeleteReally cool, I'm just watching it on Letterman now. The interview was fun to watch as well!
ReplyDeleteGreat I just arrived home and glad you all cold see it.
ReplyDeleteIt was something to see Paul play where he had played when he was 22 years of ages. It's rather neat if you ask me Deb.
ReplyDeleteYou can't help but admire this man and his music Karyn.
ReplyDeleteWell I had seen it and I look for it Cal and it was something to see the man talk about this history of playing in the old Ed Sullivan Theater.
ReplyDeleteMia I caught the interview and it was very neat to say the least.
ReplyDeleteI fully agree. I just wish all four of the Lads were still with us--seperate or together--to be part of our culture in new ways. God Bless them all, and thank you Sir Paul.
