Of course I had to do my own video walk through this place and ensure that I did not infringe upon what was taking place today.
There were people slowly coming in to take in a recital and the was the local broadcasting company there. I was just there doing my own thing what struck me was the how much this looked like a few old historical homes I have been in. But the amazing things was that front hall and main stair case were designed symmetrically. Mr. Rutherford had a book collection/library exceeding 1,000 thousand books somewhere within the home he managed to hide his other 3,000 thousand books as his wife, Mrs. Rutherford always asked him to refrain from collecting and reading books. Ironic.
As well, the features of this house were elements of Jacobethan Revival architecture, loosely based on buildings constructed in England in the early 1600's.
Visually, it translates many elements of the Queen Anne into brick, slate and stone.
That is cool. The young lady was playing the violen quite well. The Rutherford House would be a place I would like to see. Could you imagine, if the walls could talk. Just think the history they could tell. Great post. GOD bless you.

Scott this is what I do on the weekends and I love and I meet so many people when I have this chance to do things as such. I really do.
ReplyDeleteI was heading around the University and talked to one gent that mentioned that the river bank that this house oversees, had a landscape archetect from NY back some years ago that as well made a suggestion to the entire North Saskatewan River - the longest in Canada to never build or commericalize it. It was a neat day what one can do by way of the lens.
I would love to go through the collection of books. It must have contained some limited editions if they were such book lovers. Too bad the light is not perfect for the lens. I will come back tomorrow for the other entries. Thank you for adding the information about the history of the house, it is interesting.
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw the study it literally blew me away. I did not realize that till they had given me a write up on the entire place. The only other place that compares to this that I have been inside is in Toronto and in NY.
ReplyDeleteRegardless, it was nice I am certain there are place like this all over. However I ponder on what he wrote? I looked at the picture of this man and wonder what he stood for. However, his wife probably gave the other 3,000 thousand books to the university I would think.
Looks like a lovely old house
ReplyDeleteThank you for the trip, I really enjoyed the old house.
