Prime Minister Stephen Harper who came into his third term as the leader of Canada.
What I found most interesting was during the question and answer period which took place during the election Harper was the only one that never needed any scripted answers, he joked, he even made jokes about himself while the other contenders were very cautious with scripted answers. After the two previous elections had left him short of a voting majority, Mr. Harper was returned to office on Monday with his Conservatives holding 167 of the 308 seats in the House of Commons. The party, which had relied on its power base in Western Canada, but this, was a first in many years.
The Liberals, more than often were the most powerful party within Canada and for the first time hit the lowest amount of votes within the history of Canada. The liberal party was the thriving force within Canadian politics.
Liberal party leader, Michael Ignatieff, even lost his own seat in Toronto and thereafter resigned. Another historical moment was the separatist Bloc Quebecois party which had dominated Quebec for twenty years. Then to be literally annihilated by the NDP, that was a something, as now they don't have any representation within the government. All that I know is that Jack Layton, whom is the leader of the minority party, has some quick learning to do with regards to Quebec. The Bloc literally has no real power within the federal government. That is a first within this land.
Prime Minister Harper’s majority within Canada federal government gives a passage and means of which literally most any decision can more or less be passed without being challenged. Now the two questions that come to be are how Prime Minister Harper will govern with a majority and how much did this election change the landscape within Canada. Yet the Prime Minister does not have ultimate power as of the likes of the President within the United States. If a President wishes to, in accordance to the laws of the land a President can make a decision without the need of a vote in favor.
Many within Canada now assume Harper will follow within a new manner some of the things yet within perhaps a manner of which former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney had lead while he was Prime Minister. Yet this is only speculation. Reagan along with Mulroney laid down many agreements between Canada and the United States. The inception of free trade came during the terms of both of these leaders and later on came to be what is known as NAFTA. The North American Free Trade Agreement. Harper has now become the second Prime Minister in Canada's history to lead in three terms. The last leader of Canada to do that was Pierre Trudeau. Ironically on his agenda is to adapt and put into place law whereby a Prime Minister can only hold a term as leader in the same manner as what is in place for the President of the United States. Which is at most two terms of four years. Which is the same as within the United States. That I do believe in. The landscape of Canada’s federal government has made the most historical election since the inception of Canada.
Now it's a wait to see of what takes place with this entirely new governmental landscape.
as an american i am proud of our president obama---however i fear the tea party and their ultra conservative ideologies ----within the states there are many teabag gov and they are hurting the working people -----i hope for canada that your change is for the better and not a copy of the ultra conservatives in america----we are very close neighbors and i have always thought of our two countries as relations--perhaps like cousins-----we must as a people(and i include all on the planet) understand that we are all relations and we must consider the equality of all----politics is politics but human compassion and understanding is survival................
ReplyDeleteYour flags are all over michigan. Your within only a few hours an only a tunnel away. I agree that there is mutual respect an we should strive for humanity. It has been noticed for me that in healthcare you come over here where we place you as a person an not a number. We must work together for the good of all people.
ReplyDeleteYes, it is going to be an interesting Parliament when Mr. Harper returns to rule the roost. To tell you the truth that has me very worried for Canada's welfare. As a rule I don't like majority governments. They tend to have too much power.
ReplyDeleteI was very pleased to hear though that Elizabeth May and the Green party got a seat in Parliament. I feel bad for the block because I am sure losing to the NDP must have been quite a shock. The Liberal incumbent lost to Mathew Kellway of the NDP. I bought myself some tulips to cheer myself up.
I am happy for Jack though and he has a nice name.
:)
Wow Canada finally did it????? Cave is proud of Canada now we have to work on Obama here ;)
ReplyDeleteSounds confusing to me, but politics does that so I try to ignore it.
ReplyDeleteBeen through there Cinn and that would be a natural as both of our nations have not only had much history that blends us. I know where your ancestors where from by your saying. But you know mine as well. The flags across Canada have never been as patriotic as America. But since the winter olympics as well as this election. From my own American vantage point, Canada now is very proud with Flags. You would understand Canada more by way that "someone" that has come into your life and as well the "blue bridge" has always been one that has allowed trade to happen between us.
ReplyDeleteCanadians have been there for Americans, as well they have been there within other realms. I am very pleased with the outcome. You know my history. I have never been outside of these lands. But the other night was history here. We have never had what took place as of on May 2nd.
Hence Canada is American and European in sorts. Americans over the last five years have moved here, and then Canadians since the dawn of the 60's have always been much like ducks that have went in the winter to Florida, Arizona, Australia, or Cancun.
I like the Canadian flag as there is meaning to it. Humanity is that of which does not discern another - one thing that Canada is is multicultural.
As well the only nation within the world that came out of ten years fairing out sound. As we don't owe one cent to any other country.
Obama did great. Here is a man that has done things. And even with Bin Laden down and out - he faces ridicule - porqui?
ReplyDeleteJimmy Carter faced this, Bush Jr.......(edit that out), and here is a man that truly acted as a leader. So often I ask myself
do I like him because he is much of the likes of the thinking of leaders in Canadian governments? Yo no se...
Obama I don't think is all that bad, I am American by birth....Harper has always been within talks with Obama.
ReplyDeleteHistory will show this in time.Robbie, I am not sure on what you meant. But what happened was history.
Even within Canada we do have an Atlantic coast as well as a Pacific Coast. But what's ironic within this is
Saskatchewan and Newfoundland have come to now be the economical triumphs. Before they were thought of
within Canada as being the "back roads". Funny how natural resources and good universities that work upwards
produce...
Yet you know there is a country called Canada Nancy :)
