This weekend was as simple one. A long time lady friend of mine that used to work for a telecommunications company. We never have kept in touch all that much but we had decided to head out to what are called the sand dunes. It’s about a thirty minute drive outside the city.
Unfortunately, we just go together she is older thank I am and within the past there was a friendship that came to be rendered. She had been with this company for some 20 years and well she would have been the first one that I would have thought would have been laid off. I am trying to think of the name of the company as it did make a change of names. But here was one of many cases of some of these companies, which had overextended themselves.
When I talked about it with Kisten, soon she changed the subject, as I know she does have her own situations at hand. It was the same Kisten that was not stubborn, she was and is very wise, cut to the chase might be the manner but not within an other than that which can be said between friends. She I found to be a very extroverted one, but that with time came to change. Yet she is still one that I do think of as a smart person. She opted not to pursue anything but to pay the way for her daughter to come to some closure in meeting the father she never knew. Yet she choose to just leave it be. As she went from tending as a waitress to building herself up to being one of the longest employees within this company. It's rather sad that Kisten was laid off in the manner she was. She would have been the last I would have thought this would happen to. That all may very well come with a little time. So perhaps he might be able to help here there as she really never had any trade - she really apprenticed in doing what she did.
Go figure, to this very day Kisten does not even have a cell. She worked in a company that built several things on this technical assembly line of sorts. But that’s Kisten. Her name is that way when I first met hear so often I would call her Kirten but she is of Dutch ancentory and it took me a good three months before I even came to not make mistakes with it. So rather than heading out there just one of those mellow weekends. Here in Canada the trick is to render as much as you can of this time of the year.
This weekend’s planned excursions to the sand dunes were right up on my list but I am not going to reveling on it as with the teeth it's an on and off situation. But something. Literally in the southern part of this province there is miles and miles of dessert. All preserved by the national parks.
Although here it's the prairies it is something to see. But when I think of a person that has worked from some twenty years and is laid off with only 3 months severance (law of the land). I don’t think I have that much to complain about. Mind you it was nice to get together with a friend and just “hang” if you know what I mean. I can't say my teeth haven’t been halting many some areas although rather than a trek out to the “sands”.
So it was mellow but as decent as can be. Plans can be altered for another weekend.
But a job can't be so readily replaced...
It is lovely that you had a great day with your friend out at the dunes. Sorry to hear about her misfortune, Even sorrier when I think of how North America used to be a manufacturing powerhouse. It's nice to hear about somebody else without a cellphone. My children are always going on to me about how I am the last person alive without a cellphone. LOL!
ReplyDeleteGreat. Have a good time Jack. As for me ... i'll have my tooth extracted come Sunday, that makes four. I'll be going , you take care on that Sand Dunes, it could hurt your eyes eh!!! Blessings and tight hugs :)
ReplyDeleteIt's true Mike, there are some companies that maybe never planned Mike. We never made it to the sand dunes we just got together as friends and just talked. I kid you not with her no cell. He daughter does the very same to her. LOL.
ReplyDeleteHow do you know that? As I have not been on here for 48 hours. :)
ReplyDeleteAm i the one you are asking, Jack. ok ... be good. :)
ReplyDeletePardon?
ReplyDeleteGetting out for the day sounds like it was good for both of you. Glad you had a good day
ReplyDeleteIt was nice although the plan was to head out but after I knowing what had happened aside of groceries within the morning
ReplyDeleteit was good and as well the camera works within panoramic settings but so be it as aside of this tooth situation it's been
good Sharon. The weather was nice but I took a some time out with this ie Tooth.
I understand and the pain has to be eating away at you. Hopefully it will all be better soon and the new camera will get a great work out.
ReplyDeleteYou got it Sharon and this next week shall be the finality of it all - I hope do hope. And then next week shall be a trip out there.
ReplyDeleteIt's been a while but I do look forward to it.
Darn, tis sad she lost her job after 20 years there. Nobody is immune these days... I hope you had a nice outing despite her, and your issues.
ReplyDeleteSummers, Kisten would have been the last I would have thought. We did allot of catching up and what I find is that
ReplyDeleteeven though she does not have a degree she is probably one of the wisest people I have met. I am sure that she has
something within her plans. I truly wish that some of these people would be on Multiply but she prefers to just do
that email thing and more. She is a tad older than me but heck she has the smarts and it's rather tragic that this
happened at her age as she is 55. No one is immune, but she always has pinched her pennies and literally has
done everything on her own. There is something to be said for that.
what an interesting..story of your friend..more power to her.:)
ReplyDeleteand I hope the tooth Fairy..can fix yur Problem! [hugs]
Caroline she shall :)
ReplyDelete:)
ReplyDelete... nothing
Have a good week. 29F here and still windy. Wish it would warm up.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a good time.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to read the comments with the colour you have here.
ReplyDeleteSorry about your friend's job loss.
job loss everywhere, you would think there would be some protection for those who have given twenty years to their employ........its horrible.
ReplyDeletePatty it's nice here but something good happened if I may say. :)
ReplyDeleteThen but more so as of this very date Nacy something very very good happened. :)
ReplyDeleteDJ I thought of that as unless I bring the posts up to a large setting.
ReplyDeleteI shall look around as I always loved the texture of this, but all said DJ.
This is a tremendous day the out come which came from it as on this very day.
Real real good :)
I saw here today and she's alright. But over and above that it has been a
terrific day.
Pam it is.
ReplyDeleteSeemingly we are coming to be the friends we were before. I never expected that. She told me that many had lost their jobs and ironically there is one neighbor of mine that I have wondered why he was so shy of recent. Ironically he lost his job and worked for the company now I never knew either of them worked for this same company and now I understand why Alex has kind of gone missing. It's probably a combination of things as he came here 8 years ago from Romania. But Kisten she had all too much experience. Earlier today I called her as she has been like a sister/best friend if you will. Seems that that has came back, which I am truly glad of.
I could literally write on this friendship between the two of us, as it was not of a romantic nature. It was two people that could be friends regardless of genders. I often thought of her and still do as a common like person who has done much and she does not seem to be perplexed by it all. This Alex, I have never known that well aside from just saying hello. The company used to be called, "Wavecom" I don't know what they changed there name too perhaps they are still working under that name.
Yet the losses during this time are not good. Meanwhile there are these other areas in which have tremendous growth. Today I was speaking to a gent from Indiana as I took a tour around all these residential areas that are growing faster than I have ever seen before and the cost of the average house here is around $300,000.00 dollars. Seemingly here there is an upside while within other areas there is a down turn or at times I as myself here within this part or this city - is the city government doing the right thing. Or is this a boom that in five years shall be a bust. I don't know I have never focused on it I have
never looked within the statistics but I do know that there is growth going on while there are downturns within the economy. I myself don't know enough of what all it happening here as I never took the time to look at the statistics. But at least Kisten has her own home entirely paid for. I don't know the status for Alex. This friend of mine Jim did well – well Jim’s mother and deceased father bought them a house for their wedding. Yet that is an entirely different story. Kisten was one that came from nothing and has built herself from nothing, I would tend to think that she has more "loot" within the bank. I would dare to say that Kisten has more liquid assets. I mean money that resides within her savings as she and I think that shall serve her well.
As for me igloos come cheap. But they are so costly in keeping them frozen during this time of the years.
I could not resist :)
Some companies just don't seem to take into consideration how much their employees give to them. I think you should go back to the dunes once your teeth are healed, and enjoy them all over again, in better health :)
ReplyDeleteNo unfortunately they don't or they find that with all matters economically they need to adjust to keep going. There is no doubt Faye that there is a celebration around the corner.
