Last night while I was reading on here there was a storm where at 6pm - the sky became so dark that it was literally black. You could not see a thing outside. What followed there after was winds that you know there is sound and then a silence. Shortly thereafter hail the size of golf balls. When the storm seemed to be over I headed off to bed as I had to get up early for an appointment which I had. When I went to have a shower - there was no power and then I understood that the entire town went out. As there was a second storm which went through.
The only place which was open was a convenience store and I grabbed a coffee and then to my amazement every town on the way to Saskatoon was out of power. And the rain well I don't know how the farmers shall make out this year as the fields are literally flooded out.
When I arrived at my appointment it all took place but the office was out of power, thankfully there were window. Afterwards I went to on large store to get a few things and how ironic it was that it was open for business yet there was only enough power to have the tills operating. I have never seen where a certain area which encompasses towns and two large cities hit so hard by a storm. I didn't have the time to take many pictures yet I was able to get the things done.
I never saw so many old trees broken down, nor as much enterprises closed. I just took three pictures all in all but while I was en route to another place I had to turn around and take another street. I don't know how many trees where take down by the winds.
In all the times which I have lived in Saskatoon and area, I have never seen the storms of the likes of this. I would ponder on how much damage was done.
It sure has been very unusual weather this year Jack....We had that same storm come thru here a few days ago...got buckets of rain but the thunder storm itself was off the east of me so we didnt get the howling winds or the thunder, you must have gotten the brunt of it in your area. Hopefully soon it will stop and we can be getting the normal weather. Today we had sunshine and temps in the high 70's...perfect for me.
ReplyDeleteI was just writing on your blog Marty! Here too the days ahead are going to be cooler yet it's been a very different here as what ironically you just wrote on your blog. Here it has not been declared a disaster. I may for the agriculture end of things but I never saw everything go out for such a prolonged period of time.
ReplyDeleteThe west is going to be hit hard due to the open terrain I suspect although I'm not sure. Where I live Toronto is in a valley and it is somewhat protected by the worst storms so far. We did get some rather wild windy weather a couple of days ago because we were trapped between a low and a high pressure system. It was humid so I was very grateful for the change in weather.
ReplyDeleteApparently it is to go up to 32 Celsius tomorrow and for the next couple of days. It's going to get hot and on Thursday we should expect some unsettled weather.
I believe if we would build true peace, nature would do the same.
ReplyDeletetake care Jack
ReplyDeleteA recent hailstorm missed us, but we've seen cars from Fort Worth that were seriously damaged. It's good that you were inside!
ReplyDeleteit s sad to lose trees in storms.I hate to see them laying down:(
ReplyDeleteLooks like the chainsaws will be getting a workout over the next couple of days. Hope the power to restored fully very soon.
ReplyDeleteInteresting thought DJ.
ReplyDeleteGrammy it's a strange year this year. But then it all goes within cycles. Hail we had again yet.
ReplyDeleteI truly despise seeing trees which are nearing 100 years and then they are taken down.
